I bought clip studio ex and I legit didnt really like it cause it was so hard to use???? I used to use medibang and I heard other medibang people who switched had a hard time cause it was so different. but I refuse to use medibang cause I bought this so I have to learn it, but yeah I didnt really like not being able to make the whole thing full screen. IT just windows everything to be proportioned to my screen, when I used a screen tablet i hadto manually resize everything...

Thought I would share, but I use the game SIMS 4-- custom content of houses/living spaces for reference. I have built an entire custom house in about 4 hours using SIMS 4 /custom content from various artists. Then I will save my home in game and take screenshots and use as backgrounds in comics. I usually take screen caps and then draw over it. XD Much like how Laovan trace over the house he created from template. :3 Worth a shot for those that like gaming and want a fun resolution in backgrounds or already have SIMS 4 game!! I believe clip studio EX also has an option to automatically create lineart from any image. So you can use that tool and then tweak/draw in missing lines. ^^

Your commitment to efficiency is very refreshing! So many artists these days -- especially young artists who haven't yet developed a sense of how little time we have on this earth -- seem to have an almost masochistic approach to their art, where everything has to be done manually from scratch or "it's not art."

@@MegaCityPatrol It will help you understand 3D forms, on the condition that you're doing it for that specific purpose. It's no different from drawing from life. In this instance, however, it's not done to learn. It's done to grind. Comics take a long ass time, and tracing 3D models cuts that time in half. The quicker a comic is done, the more you can do, and the more you can do the more you can sell.

You're really brave to admit that you're using the 3d features for your comic and artworks.
There're a lot of people think that using 3d is "tracing", and "tracing is bad", and "a real artist draws from scratch". I don't really know what's the deal with that kind of thinking at all. But I'm rather not telling that I'm using 3d models for drawing publicly, than having to explain that it's a normal thing to do every time.

I find that it not only has a wider array of models and resources but said models and resources are much more versatile. It really helps, setting up storyboards and creating viable backgrounds for my work.

Another trick with the 3D models for poses, you can actually take some reference photos of you in the poses, and then CSP will let you use a photo and the model will try to match the pose. This can be helpful if you can't get your real camera in a spot for your pose, but once it's transferred to the model you can rotate it freely.

Fantastic tips, good luck with the comic, your work is phenomenal !
I'd like to share some other hints I've picked up:
-the Vector layer for lineart is awesome.
-use the quickfill tools ! Very much a timesaver.
-you can import custom 3D models from sites like Free3D, TurboSquid, Sketchfab ecetra, you're not limited to the Clip 'community store' thing all you need is the OBJ file.
-there is a tool in Clip that can read poses from photo's, its not perfect tho.
-Clip has a layer 'filter' that makes the 3D items look like an ink background, again not perfect but can be helpful to some.
-Clip also has a build in AI that colors pictures for you, could be useful for seeing what works.

Also we need to talk a lot more about these kinds of things. People just assume artists can produce 20+ pages of a comic per month easily and get super upset when they find out someone traced a bit. A lot of comic book artists trace backgrounds or poses, can we do it by hand? Yeah, sure! Do we have time on a deadline? Nope!

I think the 3d model could be VERY useful for getting the anatomy on stranger poses for example if you were drawing spider man in mid air shooting a web it would be difficult to map out ACCURATE anatomy but I'm ASSUMING the 3d model could help with that :D

  • @EdwinDPZ
    @EdwinDPZ 5 років тому +4

I mean, you don't need to pose the models exactly down to the correct finger placement. As long as you get a general idea of the proportions you can just draw in the exact positioning when you draw over it which would save you a lot of time and effort.

    • @thefloofdragon9967

Artists are really meticulous when it comes to fine details and small ones that maybe others can’t see. The artists knows they are there so it might be helpful for the artist that the finger placement or other small details look good.
