I can relate to this it really spoke to me it describes a lot of me and my parents experiences it brought tears to my eye's. This is accurate it speaks all my thoughts that I have had. I am an African girl in America and I am finally truly proud of my roots.
I like poetry, but why do poets have to act as though they're crying or fighting when they recite their poems. Why do they have to shout and get aggressive? I just dont get it and would like someone to explain because It seems inauthentic to me, like dramatic and takes away from the poem. I am open to learning so ppls dont be harsh with me in the comments
As a poet when writing I write what I feel it's through words that I release my emotions so it's the same case when reciting..I have to let my audience feel the words..so at a point where am to get aggressive I will if the words are sorrowful then it's in that manner I'll express myself
As a Kenyan, I love this. As an African, I love this.
