This collaboration was a long time coming but ended up becoming one of the most authentic pop creations in years. idk it never really was a diss track. in an earlier interview charli kinda said the only actual "diss" on the album was von dutch. if anything, girl so confusing is more charli opening up to lorde because she felt like there was a disconnect between them and wanted to resolve it.
Agree with the comment below about it being a moment of self hatred, confusion, and abstraction. It’s kinda a brave “hey ARE we actually friends or wtf”
@@SlamJamMusic Oh totally! That’s why I added _supposed_ because a lot of people (me💀) picked up on it being a diss on first listen. If anything this remix solidifies it as being more of a bonding over time tale that some people will realize it’s no longer as much of a diss as it is an appreciation-after-confusion track 💁♂️

Literally I was waiting for the Ti West QnA when I first heard this then they said they were playing MaXXXine and I knew it was this song’s power
I’ve been a fan of both since their debuts but very casually so I was never aware of any “beef” but this still felt so cathartic to listen to. Lorde’s lyrics were so personal yet so relatable about how difficult it can be to maintain healthy relationships with other women when the patriarchy incentivizes you to constantly be in competition, and how your own insecurities can damage potentially good friendships.
They really don’t have beef so much as like misplaced expectations and this invisible air of competition that’s detracted from what could be a fruitful relationship. Lorde’s so talented at cutting down words to the heart of her feelings.
This remix is entering my Spotify wrapped, I have an unhealthy obsession with the track

Not to throw too much shade but it’s clear whose goals are commercial and whose are more artistic at this point. Both are valid directions and I love them both but like one’s having a critical breakthrough and a cultural moment and the other’s well just doing business as usual. 🫢

i feel like i’ve gotten so used to quick collabs coming as a money grab and not a quality piece of work but this f’ing song…. i would say it’s better than og girl so confusing, even tho she could not exist and hold the same weight without her. but this track is so powerful and raw without feeling clumsy or over/under-produced. 10s across the board, crying in girlhood
Remixes tend to really just be a charting cash grab but agreed, this was just right. Both really showcase their writing and talent in the best way possible.

I love that we've been begging these two to collab while they edge us for years, and all it took is for one of them to release a song about her frustration with the other and why they haven't collabed, for them to finally do it. It's so fucking meta. And then Marina and Charli started twitting back and forth.... what a time for pop culture! Lorde is beyond perfect in the remix, her verse is so raw and fitting to the whole vibe, the last pre chorus with both of them is heavenly, and I love her voice so much with all this autotune and modification, she really owned it. I hope she works with some of Charli's producers next, especially if she returns to darker synthpop.
