Watching the Netflix series on El Rey, so great to get to know this man's life. I first heard him while in the Marines, stationed on okinawa Japan. A bunch of us rednecks hanging out in the barracks, drinking on the weekends. One day one of the guys put Vincente on the cd player, and we fell in love with his voice. You are only dead when you're forgotten Chente, and your name will live on. Via con Dios señor.

But part of my family is from Mexico, even my dad, and my dad and one of my uncles, they’re both bosses of 2 different mariachis here in Sacramento California, which is where I was born and raised, and I’m also a mariachi in the mariachi that my dad is the boss of, and I sing this song whenever and if it’s requested, and I’ve noticed that it may not make people cry, but it does make people feel lots of different emotions, mostly happy, but also sad or something like that, because this song is talking about a man who loves a woman and he has left for a very long time, and he will do anything he can to return to the woman he loves. And he might die trying. But even after his unexpected death, his love for the woman he loved so much, it’s still felt throughout everybody, and for me, I sing it for whatever the occasion is, even to help a guy serenade his girlfriend/wife. Je suis un francophone, je vis à Montréal. J'adore et j'écoute très souvent cette superbe chanson interprétée de façon si prenante par Vincente Fernandez. Elle me transporte dans mes souvenirs qui remontent à 1976, lors d'un congrès scientifique au Mexique. Dans un restaurant, à l'intérieur d'une grotte d'un village près de Mexico, j'ai entendu pour la première fois des mariachi interpréter cette chanson. Je suis tombé sous le charme et je reste amoureux du refrain. Vincente (c'est le grand maître), est de loin mon interprète préféré. Merci El Rey.

Asistí al festival de mariachi el año pasado en la ciudad de San José en California. Aquella noche era una experiencia cultural e importante al pueblo. La música más hermosa que he oído alguna vez en mi vida fue tocada esa noche con gran maestía y pasión. Escucho a las grabaciones de Vicente Fernàndez cada día y conozco la letra de "Volver, volver", "Los laureles" y "México lindo". Nunca en la vida mìa he oído una voz tan gloriosa.
