Haven't heard this, but it makes sense from a business perspective. Even though the problem is identified and a correction developed, how would you manage a system wide action? A stop sales order from a Maker almost ensures some dealer doesn't sell one anyway.
I own a 2023 Cheiftain Darkhorse so I panicked when I caught this video. I went into my Indian App, no recals or advisorys. I Went onto a few local Indian dealers websites and they are selling Chieftains. I went into the Indian forums and no mention of any of this. Finally I called my local dealer and they never heard of it. WTF?
It could be as simple as they came up with a wiring harness clip that helps reposition the affected wire. Possibly, they don’t have enough of these clips in stock to retrofit all of the bikes on the dealership floors, plus bikes that are affected and previously sold.
I'm sure HD is happy they will get a few sales from this. But sales down in winter anyway in North America. Also prices a little stiff causing a Stallout in sales for every motorcycle manufacturer.
One engine stall is severe enough, luckily no injury apparently, and everyone is afraid of the US liability laws ............. This time of year is relatively easy to issue a total sale and delivery stop, they can take a bit more time to constitute instructions, maybe without need of working overtime, review these internally / externally, getting a go for distribution to the dealers, maybe prepare / order extra parts (extended wiring, tie-wraps ?). As you say due to low amount of expected bike deliveries now anyway, and customers will understand this time of year.
anything built during the pandemic is subject to issues because folks had to endure a hostile work environment. job cuts and threats to do something to keep a job will do this everytime. My 2023 FXST is in for warrenty issues for the 5th time and she only has 580 miles on her. these issues started at 280 miles. I think the end game is to hurt freedom of mobility. someone does not want folks to travel... I hope I am wrong. Hope these with these Indians are patient and get the issues resolved.
In a word, containment. This sounds a bit like a nightmare. Clearly, Indian is trying to limit exposure, minimize litigation, and mitigate a customer satisfaction issue. It's a good move. marcus
You are indeed a bit over the top on this one. Proceedure is that dealer should call to all customers affected with this recall and also fix all bikes on the showroom or incoming to stock. It is easy to see the potentional damage and easy to repair. Stop Sale is just to notice the dealer that fix this must be naturally done before customer pick up the bike. Poor design is the reason of recall you mentioned 3 days ago 😉
Here in Columbia Mo at the dealership, they have a line of brand new 2022 models 0 miles. I had a victory and switched to hd. My biggest fear was them going the way of victory. Doesn’t look good
I have a 2023 FTR Ralley and it not only dies all the time, but sometimes it doesn't start. I'm on battery number 4 and the bike only has 1200 miles on it. If it happens again I'm getting my money back.
I believe Indian is blowing this whole recall out of proportion to manipulate stockholders. This incident is going to be used as the scapegoat for their entire sales slump.
Seems like you are trying to make a mountain out of an ant hill. Sounds like they are saying if they inspect and re route the undamaged wires on the new unsold bikes they can be sold. As ss someone commented earlier, smart move on Indian's part.
HD just notified a recall on their new touring SG and RG models for basically same issue. Melting wire next to chassy could fail/stall bike. At least indian stopped selling them ( much more serious moco) hd still sells them. Indian is a wayyyy better cruiser bike, engine wise, gear drive, air coooled 116 thinderstroke monster etc etc. . I'm done with hd after 25+ yrs of their unreliable sh@,t and 3 new bikes from them. Useless tanks
Why a Harley supporter and rider telling a lie on Indain Motorcycle . Why all 2023 and 2024 Harley having problems can start and computer systems problems
One reason POLARIS cancel the Victory, there were losing about 12 million per year on this brand and to honest sales were not that good. I was told this during one of the Panama City bike rallies. The owner of Victory dealership in Tennessee was at the Indian Dealership helping with sales. My buddy who road a Victory Vision, knew the guy and he no problem sharing the information. If this is not the case, then he Lie (not me).

Indian 100% have done the right thing here. An issue has been identified and they pulled out all the stops to sort it, brilliant.

I test rode a 2022 dark horse, the way the gears banged when shifting and a studdering feel when throtteling scared me off.
Perhaps they are erring on the side of caution, if true it's refreshing in this day and age!

I’m impressed that Indian Motorcycles are stepping up and taking responsibility for problems with their vehicles, unlike Harley Davidson.

Being safety conscious is admirable and swift action is commendable. Making the whole thing a dramatic conspiracy is a bit foolish.
I wonder if prospective buyers will vote with their moccasins and look at buying other brands?
Had a stalling issue on my 18 Chieftain limited. Turned out to be a defective 15A engine breaker.

They can’t sell until that sensor wire issue is remedied. Ok, simple. Do it, sell it. G’day!
I can’t find any information on the Indian bikes for these model years sold in Australia, Taiwan other countries outside the US.
Is this in UK only?
very useful info thanks bro great work...
New CVO Harleys stall out all the time while riding because of the kickstand switch malfunctioning.

Its Polaris top table protecting them self's, I should think most manufactures would do the same.

Hi , to stop pre order look like overkill , they may loose som cusomers who will change to HD instead . Per

Flat paint😮 makes it look like a barn find
Raised price 1k no thanks 😮
if they did it is is major they had problems before and just told people to bring in when they can

Indian Motorcycle has no ties to the older Indians Polaris bought the name it started making their own motorcycles
Thanks for the update but you could have said it all in under 2 minutes rather than going around in circles and repeating everything many times.
Who is the brainiac engineer that designed the wire harness?
Relative minor issue get fire or stall? Hmmm 😁
Why a Harley supporter and rider telling a lie on Indain Motorcycle . Why all 2023 and 2024 Harley having problems can start and computer systems problems
more to it then ;;;
Bring back Victory Motorcycles!👍🏻
Po;aris should never have out Victory and replaced with faux Indian.

I've been saving for a new indian Springfield for 2 years, so I can pay cash but if I can't buy a new indian bike now I'll just buy a harley davidson
MAGNETO
Solution BUY A HARLEY 👍🇺🇲😎
Let’s be real here, Harley’s break down more than most, if not all other makes. That’s a fact.
