This is really true since i've been to both the south and the north of england as well as scotland and boy do the northern accents sound so similar to "Ze Tschörman ÄNGLISCH".
and Pete's from Yorkshire which lays in the north east of england. I honestly prefer the northern accents as british accents because they sound so plain and clear. I don't understand why brits claim that northern Accents are harder to understand. For me it's by far harder to understand the southerners because they Sound like they are constantly boozed.

In the south, the Angles settled from the old Saxony and the language where next to Celtic in later centuries more influenced by Breton (Northern French). For German ears, the northern English dialects are actually better understood, you're right.

That's also why i think that speaking "british english" or with " british accent" is very imprecise. I could immitate scotish, geordie and London very easily and though they are all british accents, they are completly different as you pointed out.
