👉 Love this performance!!! Drunken Concubine in dialogue the tragic story between a famous concubine of the Chinese imperial court, Li Yugang in that role, and the emperor, Dimash’s rol that’s why the throne at stage. At the end of the story the concubine is poisoned as a result of court intrigues. Li Yugang is a famous artist considered China’s National Treasure and he is a nan dan singer (male playing female roles) art forms from Peking Opera, giving the traditional art a modern edge. The way he moves (knees bent together and those "meows" have a special meaning in the traditional opera). What is most amazing about Li is that he couldn’t study in the university or conservatory of music, he is absolutely autodidact which is so admirable!! 👌👍💥 ❤️🎤🔝 One of the things a I love the most of Dimash is his versatility and his ability to show us different cultures through the music. In this case with Li Yugang, they have made a perfect match with the traditional Peking Opera style, beautiful 🌟
Li Yugang: Ancient Chinese tradition prevented women from performing for men at the Old Opera House in Beijing. From this tradition came a style called “Nan Dan” in which the man plays a female role in the Beijing Opera. One that was a restriction, today turned into culture and the greatest exponent of this culture in China is the singing and performer Li Yugang: Who created his own theatrical play (Who toured the world in 2015) and released several CDs (successfully of sales) he won 4 Denny award in Beijing.
Li Yugong is a well known singer in the Peking Opera where he plays women's roles. This is a Chinese tradition that men play women in the opera. This is a fabulous duet and gets better with every listen. The 'Drunken Concubine' tells the story of the Emperor (played/sung by Dimash) and the concubine (played/sung by Li Yugong). The concubine is before the Emperor for treason, and she reminds him of the wonderful time that they had together when they were drunk. The Emperor wishes that they could have one more such time before he puts her to death. Thank you.
THANKS for your reactions to Dimash!!!!….. This performance is in Shanghai Spring Festival at China. This song is musical conversation between Emperor (Dimash at golden chair) and a Concubine (Li Yugang) Mr Li is a 43 years old and very famous Chinese traditional opera singer and He perform female parts. In this song Dimash crazy high note is F#7 (2,794Hz) and His low crazy note in this song is E1(growling). New range is E1 to D8. Amazing Harmonies. Dimash C#6 in the top end. Saludos desde México ! 🇰🇿🇲🇽🇰🇿
Li Yugang: sing with the Chinese tranditional opera voice, if anyone watches old Chinese drama series, that is what opera traditional chineses singing: very nasal and feminine child like sound . Dimash: totally a vocal beast. Even they set up this performance as a duet competition vibe. He just suppressed both low notes and high notes with whistle and all the slides. At the last note, he goes to powerful head voice and his voice is too strong that I couldn’t hear Li Yugang’s voice .Man! The guy is too good for singing. I would say Li yugang is a good singer, but Dimash is just a phenomenal singer right here!
Thanks so much Yuri. Great reaction emotional!😂 Li Yugang Super Singer! Classic Chinese opera. Dimash is incredible Dimash!😜 Crazy harmony!!!Greetings from Israel 🇮🇱
Every Dimash performance and song are just beauty on its own. But this performance is just so fun combinations of different style, combinations of classic, pop and different style of singing. Love the performance
Hi Yuri, thank you for reacting to this sometimes forgotten performence. Thanks to Dimash we are being introduced to amazing talents beyond our own borders. He is bringing us together with his music. We so often suffer from tunnelvision. Thank you for educating us, Dimash
You are right, they are amazing. They sing in in different styles, Li in Beijing traditional pentatonic scale and Dimash with “western” style and some middle eastern ornaments. Yet their harmonies blends perfectly.
Of course I missed the live, again 😢. I love this performance, this and Bastau are my favorite Diva Dance performances. Thank you for sharing your reaction. ❤
At the end, those two melody lines and voices compliment each other so well, they sound amazing! One of the coolest things I`ve ever heard. And that whistle note, so perfectly placed in the song. Amazing stuff. It actually gets better every time you hear it.

Thanks so much, for reacting to this glorious blend of east and western operatic styles from two of the most talented and unique voices of the world! I'll admit that when I first heard Li Yugang here, I didn't know what to think - however, that was just because these very English ears of mine had never experienced traditional Chinese opera before, and so his "nan dan" vocals were simply alien to me? But this is one of the great joys Dimash brings to me, this discovery of new (to me!) music and cultures from all around the world - he really is such a blessing to my life! May I please, please, *please* request that you check out my favourite of all Dimash's genius collaborations, «Ulisse» with the renowned soprano Aida Garifullina? Their voices together are just STUNNING, yet their performance remains criminally under-reacted to on YT - even by Dears! Thanks again my friend, and take care :) 💕🙏✌️🇬🇧
Yes, as someone who's from the United States of America, Li Yugang's voice was alien to me as well, but since I'm a self-trained singer for 12 years, I couldn't hear any imperfections in his singing. The style is so foreign and fascinating to me. I think Chinese culture is incredibly beautiful with a long and storied history. From Li's outfit, to his voice, his makeup, and the way he presents himself on stage... It's an enchanting and magical experience.
Li Yugang is a Chinese opera singer that mainly sings the role of a female... has his own distinguished style and he managed to hold himself so well next to Dimash.. his style is so regal and elegant... Love the oriental vibe.. must read the subtitles.. cos its a tragic love song between a king and his favourite concubine.. Dimash is playing the role of the King and Li is playing the role of the concubine.. In the ancient China, the King will always hold the dominant role which was portrayed so well by Dimash in his singing style, while a concubine should remained demure and gentle in the presence of the king, also portrayed very beautifully by Li in this aspect. They sang and played these roles so so well in this performance... 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Some singers might loose their style or get overshadowed by Dimash while performing.. but here.. it looked so much more of them complementing each other's style of singing.. really awesome to watch.. ❤️ This is one of the best collab Dimash has done with another singer... Love from Dears ❤❤
This is my favorite Dimash-Diva Dance version. It's also my favorite Dimash duet. I understand you wanting to take some time after your One Sky reaction. That is a massively emotionally impacting video. The Unforgettable Day Gakku reaction with your friends tickled me. See you soon.
Guess how old Li Yugang is? He is 44 years now! I was so surprised when I discovered that. I thought he is way younger! I love this peace of music and it is one of my favorites from Dimash as well.
@@YBPlaysMusic yeah it's a few years ago, but Dimash looks so young there... even now😊! Thought Li Yugang might be in his early 30 😉. They sound so good together! There's another duet with Tengri Swan Goose (also very well known in China) and absolutely beautiful! It isn't so popular amongst his songs and recently there was one with an opera singer. Zhang Yingxi Thousands miles, of a common dream. Which he sung in a TV show for classic Chinese music.

This is a great reaction to one of my favorite Dimash duets. I just watched your playing music from Exorcist. Very good! I wonder, do you know Dimash also plays piano? I recommend Dimash playing The Story of One Sky on the piano. (No vocals). I have never seen him play this much. You would appreciate it even more, I think, since you also play.
AWESOME AND FAIR REACTION BRO! Thank you for doing justice to Li Yugang and not comparing him negatively to Dimash. It's an excellent mash-up between two unique genres 😃😃😃
Li is known as a Nandan. Male actors who specialize in playing dan (female roles) are referred to as nándàn (男旦); the practice arose during the Qing dynasty due to imperial prohibitions against women performing on stage, considered detrimental to public morality.[1] This practice of female impersonation by male actors was led by Mei Lanfang, one of the most famous dan performer.[2] In the early years of Peking opera, all Dan roles were played by men.
From what I understand the Chinese singer typically performs in Chinese opera where male singers typically dress as females and sing the female parts. The way he is singing is representative of Chinese opera (very different to traditional western opera).
great to see your reactions always. Li YuGang’s style is Chinese opera is not for every, but it is definitely uniqand requires training and talent. Some reactors just say they don’t like it, the nasal voice, without knowing this is a traditional sound in Chinese Opera. When I was growing up in Taiwan, I did not appreciate listening to such voice either, it is an aquired taste for most.
Li YuGang is a famous singer of Chinese Beijing Opera, specializing in female roles which used to be traditionally sung by males. This song is a contemporary version of a classic Beijing opera. Dimash sings the part of Emperor Tang Ming Huang while Li sings the part of Yang GuiFei, his favorite concubine whom he was forced to put to death.
There was an event called „Everlasting classics“ in which both Dimash and Li Yugang participated. In this case I want to recommend Li Yugang‘s performance. You will see 2 people singing but it’s both Li Yugang. ua-cam.com/video/USPns65LWbc/v-deo.html

There was an event called „Everlasting classics“ in which both Dimash and Li Yugang participated. In this case I want to recommend Li Yugang‘s performance. You will see 2 people singing but it’s both Li Yugang. ua-cam.com/video/USPns65LWbc/v-deo.html
Thank you for the great recommendation. Li is awesome!
Thank you! I just went and watched it. Such incredible talent.
