neat, Nicoletto Giganti's 1606 Rapier Fencing speaks of this similar thing and identified it by calling it "measure" . it was an important element for the purpose of using ones measure (both out and in) for defense and acquire blade intelligence if their opponent. its cool seeing it being applied here but with different wording.
Ive been on the receiving end of this technique, or concept, not a specific technique anymore. My instructor would stay far and bait me into over extending, which slows me down, and often I get punished for it.
@@tsdobbi he makes it look like the distance is ok, he is teeters on the brink of my reach.( actually, the distance is usally ok, he is in my reach, but his counter/ response thwarts me) If I close it, he moves away and maintains it. I try, but its harder than it looks, the skill difference is big.
60 in December. I think ai am in good company :) I have done a few minutes of freestyle siniwali since the 80s - almost every day. When I find myself alone near a clock it is natural to do 60 seconds of ... whatever. My equivalent to fidget spinning... I think that has kept me young.
Timing + distance management. Really good drill you can do with two people, they step towards you, you step back, they step back, you step forward. Goal is to maintain the distance and learn to stay in tempo with the driving partner. Do this and later in sparing you will notice when you are safe or in range better and be able to move in and out of range when you want to.
Thank you. The "that wouldn't work against a (name the style) guy!" people just don't get it. We play by our own rules, and that's what makes what we do effective.
Oh crap don't tell me I'm older than you too. It is kinda funny how our tournament wins are now like ancient history to the kids and their parents we teach .Hope you have a great weekend.
I dont know how they spell their own country in philipino, but in spanish (which has influenced the language, its Filipinas) so it probably has a latin origin and maybe in the philipines they use the F instead of the ph, like how in china since they dont use the alphabet they dont use "CHINA"
This is absolute nonsense that doesn’t work against real martial artist who know affective marital arts..this fma garbage is gonna back it’s self into a corner jus like what happen in UFC1 in the 90s.. they got shut down by the grapplers and wrestlers..as far as striking goes , boxing and Muaythai is legit.. everything else is jus good for The movies.. Steven Seagal McDonald’s martial arts.

Guaranteed way to never lose a physical fight with an opponent, always be on the opposite side of the planet from them. It's a stalemate every time.

Why didn't you just close distance.

What if he decides to just close distance then attack instead of a "lunge" attack.
Then it wouldn't be good for movies and UA-cam. Duh.
