"Happy Birthday, Colin" GMA Surprise Party!! (Good Morning America TV program)

- This mother wanted to give her 11 yr. old son, Colin, a birthday party but when she mentioned it to him, he told her that he had no friends to invite. So she started a surprise "Happy Birthday, Colin" page on Facebook, which has gone viral. Good Morning America learned of the story, and planned a surprise party for Colin on the air. Happy Birthday, Colin! You have a world full of new friends now, Buddy!! :D
I got to watch this 7 years later. Can't belive he is 18 now
They've got the story wrong, he didn't ask for this he was surprised... still touching all the same...
I have been following this since early Feb. this brought tears to my eyes!!!!
You know, when you LISTEN to what Colin says when Robin asks him about wanting to go viral, he says "yes". What he may have wanted for his birthday may be different than what his mom originally wanted with her beautiful appeal. He's clearly "Happy". Things evolve. Let's not be so quick to bring negativity in and condemn "GMA," who set something up for the family for a very special birthday; we don't know all details and we don't need to. The important thing is that Colin and his family get a great boost and he learns he's loved and not alone.
Thank you for posting this, I didn't know if I'd get to see the GMA surprise party being in Australia (GMA does get broadcast here, but at 3am or some ridiculous hour). So touched to see the surprise on Colin's face. Best Birthday ever!

Little bit confused..'His birthday wish was to go viral?'..Been a follower since 10,000 mark and it has touched my heart. First time I have EVER heard of him wanting his bday to go viral....I liked it better, knowing he didn't know about everything, wouldn't have thought about it, and it was just something his mother put together..but GMA kind of made it seem like he wished for all of this. Besides all that, hope Colin is LOVING all the loving :-)
I second that, he was rushed with so much info, and GMA did a terrible job by putting words into peoples mouth's.. Shame on GMA, but much love to Colin and his family! :D

Guys in the comments, who cares? I know that he didn't want it to go viral or anything, but GMA was just trying to do something nice. Can't we just focus on that aspect without pointing out every single flaw? I'm a 14 year old with Asperger's syndrome. I was so pleased and thankful to hear about the support that was given to Colin. I never really had friends like Colin, so it feels wonderful knowing that someone like me does have friends. I really want to become friends with him. :) rocking the bow tie as well Colin! Bowtie buddies unite! Lol

GMA killed the feeling around the whole story. If I was Colin, I wouldn't even got what happend. So fast, so much info, viral? what do you mean? facebookpage? what page?
i was told about this story from my neighbor, this is very sweet!! i would have loved all the comotion, for my birthday. at that age. wow. nice mom. of colin. i bet she cried very hard ALOT OF HOURS!
I had never seen this clip. Considering all of Ella’s sensory issues, I’m amazed she didn’t go into a full on panic attack with all of that.
I feel like GMA really did just steal the thunder from the importance of the page. I think a home video of seeing his reaction to all the love and outpouring from all over the globe would've been better then all this fanfare.
I do feel GMA took advantage BUT...I also believe that Colin has no clue and that this will be an unforgetable birthday party for him and that is enough for me.

I'm one of the likes on Facebook. Where are they hiding all the presents and cards. In a few days they are all going to be opened.
Alot of news stories get changed by the station. The mother did not ask for that but when the station gets involved they will change the story to fit their need. It is not the mother's fault and when live on the air, you are not really able to correct the reporter without looking stupid.
Well, the only thing now is none of his birthdays will ever top this.
Only gma could take a cool story like that and twist it and try to get praise, they just wanted ratings they dont care about that kid.

he didn't want to go viral all he wanted was to has friends at his bd party but i expected to have him at home opening all the cards and gifts better then on good morning america .....and iam sure mom couldnt disagree......
He never said he wanted to go viral...that makes him sound like he just wanted attention. Why did they have to say that?
I know this happened 4 years ago but I have to say it now. Colin was never bullied; I went to school with him and he was in my 3rd grade class. The reason why he was "bullied" was because he would always throw tantrums and literally yell in the teachers face and tried to leave school without parent permission. Me and pretty much my whole grade was pissed because some of the things he said that happened didn't. He never sat on the floor in the lunch room and nobody ever threw food at him. I was one of the people that would let him sit with me and my friends at the time. I will admit Colin didn't have any friends but the reason why was he was a rude person to everyone and always was in a mood that anything could trigger him to cry, scream, and try to run out of the school. Sorry for all the 2.1 million people his mother and him tricked but pretty much everything he said was not true. Hope they love living on that money people gave them for sympathy. (that was sarcasm.)
It must be hard to learn how to behave and interact with others when you have challenging wiring. And it must be hard to be without friends and some of that being your own fault.
I hope looking back on it we can just say he was clearly struggling at the time growing up, but may have needed support whilst he grew up to handle his emotions and behaviours.
I'm sorry that maybe you and your classmates were not treated well at the time, and hope you are doing well today (:

His mother didn't lie to anyone I've followed the page for years now. You're just a bitter ass bc this video is about someone else.. not you. Get a grip dude seriously. For a child who was "never bullied"... you sure left a long ass bully comment. Not hard to imagine why he had a rough time in school when he had classmates like this. Smfh.
It's sad that you don't understand Asperger's now called autism or kids with disabilities that they can't manage well. But how nice of you to go on here and tell the whole world what a brat he was because it makes you look like an insensitive fool. And you're not a good friend.

GMA ruined it. Such a great story and tried to capitalize on it too make money and it showed. Mixing greed with genuine true goodness never goes well. Happy birthday to the little dude!

He doesn't mind. He loves the page, it's still going strong. He does videos regularly and his mum posts a lot.

So great overall but Colin didn't ask to go viral, his mom asked for support in light of his claim that he had no friends and no need to celebrate his birthday. It is an important part of the story. Still great though, and what a sweet kid focusing on his sister!
