I have a pretty old extrait bottle, I bought it sealed and it's heavenly. Here's the best jasmine note I've ever smelled. There's a civet and a real sandalwood at the base. It's amazing!
congratulations!!!! I love all the CHANEL perfumes. everyone needs to have at least one or two, they smell wonderful, long lasting, classic and unforgettable.
I am very late to this party but this is an epic video! I pompously adopted No. 5 as my signature when I was 15 without ever having smelled it. I read a Chanel biography and was hooked on the fantastical story, and my parents played along and gifted me a bottle of the EdT for my birthday. It was love at first smell. It bowled me over, I couldn't stop sniffing my arm and wouldn't shut up about it; powdery, sparkling, soapy, floral, warm, woody, it is everything. You are right with the doctor who analogy, the 90ies EdT will always be my favourite. Thank you for this wonderful overview!
UA-cam recommended videos about Chanel No. 5 since I looked it up, and again the wise sage of perfumes popped up again in my video choices. I had recently gotten the EDP, plus the lotion and shower gel. I absolutely love it. It's in my holy trinity of fragrances now, along with Shalimar and L'air Du Temps. I don't know why, but the classic perfumes like those three work the best on me. Maybe due to the notes in it. I've tried stuff like Good Girl and Poison Girl, and they are pleasant, but I feel like it's a bit like trying on a style of clothing that is nice but isn't really "you", whereas the classic fragrances feel like it's fitting my personality and style authentically. I do like some more modern fragrances like Cool Water, Lucky You and they are fantastic, though there's something about my top 3 that feels just right. I love how No. 5 is like a bridge between Shalimar and L'air Du Temps for me. I love the comparison of No. 5 being like Galadriel of Lord of the Rings! It is quite a light, bright, and magical fragrance. I also get some mid century elegance to it as well, plus 20s avant garde vibes, and definitely a very French springtime vibe. Love it. :)
Watching from Minnesota where it is snowing! I am very grateful to have discovered Persolaise! I am discovering many new perfumes, as well as enjoying your evocative descriptions of the classics. Thank you!
Congratulations on 5K! I own and like both the EDT and EDP, but my favorite is the Eau Premier. I gave my bottle of L’Eau to my 30-something daughter who loved it. Like Madame P. I adore Coco, which was my signature scent in the late eighties and early nineties.
Brilliant live and how fitting as you commented being a No 5 special. It’s a truly beautiful fragrance and one which I discovered quite young and indeed bought my extrait with my first credit card. Congratulations again and here’s to many more joining our Persolaise people . X
I just bought channel number 5! I already had the leau but I really always wanted the original! I'm so excited! I subscribed too your channel!👠💎💍🥿🕯💄👜🛍👓🩱
Chanel No.5 is my all time favorite. I love the extrait, the EDT, EDP, Premiere, and L’Eau in that order. I am approximately your age and EDP was my first love and what I have worn through the years the most. However, I now prefer the extrait above all. The EDT brings excitement and a little fun and humor while being still a little buttoned up. The Premiere may overtake EDP eventually for me. It is getting there. I feel exactly how you feel about L’Eau. However, that is beginning to change in 105 degree (40 Celsius) summers. It is really good when the thermostat goes up to hell levels. Also, I find some Chanel perfumes often need a little more time after getting first spray or dabs out of the way and just let it settle a breathe a bit, they grow better. I think this is true especially with the Olivier Polge fragrances. No. 5 L’Eau is better now than when I first bought it! Thank you for this review. I enjoy hearing you talk about and enjoy these fragrance journeys.
Loved watching this rundown. I'll never forget the first time I opened a new bottle of No5 extrait. And yes, I find Eau Premiere infinitely preferable to L'Eau, the citrus is overdosed in L'Eau. I'm sad it has so dethroned Eau Premiere in Chanel's marketing.
Love chanel no 5 been wearing since the age of 20 now 53. It is timeless and unique, also love coco chanel edp. I used to own the pure little bottle 15ml but so expensive now, used to sell for £45 when i was 20 years old 30 years on sells for around £180 so now buy the edp which is lovely also.
5K plus Congratulations. I am a forever fan of yours at the mention of Galaddriel. This is a perfect description and she would use many litre bottles of No.5 over her 8 thousand years on Middle Earth. I LOVE Guerlain
I’m only 30 and I’d heard stories from my mum that my Nan used to wear no5 when my mum was younger and it wasn’t very well liked because it was really heavy and strong. So I was really surprised when I tried it on Tuesday that I liked it. In fact I liked it so much that I purchased the original no5 the l’eau no5 and the no5 eau premiere along with chanel coco.
Wow, what a fantastic video, I have always wanted to like No5 but it somehow eluded me, today I tried the EDP and I really liked it, I like the way you say the EDP is the least Floral and least Aldehildic so I think I’ve now found my version, I could listen to you all day, you come across so friendly and knowledgeable. Thank you so much.
Very curious to see the new N°5 ads that will feature Marion Cotillard. I wait for new N°5 TV commercials like some wait for the newest Marvel blockbuster. My favorite still being the "My Baby Just Cares For Me" movie of 1986 with Carole Bouquet.
Hello dear Persolasie, Great take as always 10/10. Thumbs up as usual. wishing you all happiness in the world. cheers P.S. Cheers to your Happy shirt as well:)
No5. Thick waxy, white, red and yellow floral vibe over effervescent wood and powder No22 yellow floral and white floral over same effervescent wood with vanilla and incense added. Caleche white and yellow floral over beewax and powdery vintage lye soap. Very turpentine citrus ring like. 😊
Thanks for your amazing and very informative fragrance reviews. It's always a pure pleasure listening to you. As great Guerlain admirer and also Chanel friend I like your vids especially. And thank you for this great Nr. 5 "Party". So great. Please let me ask you one question. Do you wear Nr. 5 yourself? I'm a man, too and sometimes I do wear it, because I love it just too much, although my signature fragrance is Habit Rouge. Many thanks.
My favorite versions of no. 5 are parfum, Eau Premiere, then body products. I got a sample of L'Eau and after initially judging it harshly against no. 5, I quite enjoy it for the gym. No.5 Sport indeed!
I like it the best. I am the target audience, I always wanted a No.5 cuz my Grandmother wore it but I just can't wear the EDP. Eau premiere works but when I copaired l'eau side by side to eau premiere it worked much better on me and while it dosen't smell very much like No.5 up close or on paper, I keep getting little No.5 wafts through out the day that are like a hug from my Gran.
I've been wearing this myself (purely out of curiosity) and after a week of trying it, have really fallen in love with No.5. The only other women's fragrance I wear regular is AG Cloud and the two layered is sublime, indeed as a man wearing these and it has got me so many compiments, only just the other day a women followed me onto the car park and asking what is that? it smells heavenly. No.5 is firmly on my wear list.

No. 5 EDC - there's lots of it unopened still around. Get a sealed bottle from the early 70's, real civet, pretty much the original Ernst Beaux formula, as he conceived, a good bottle will transport you. This was what Marilyn wore to bed, not the pure parfum (which is another thing altogther and just awesome).

Funnily enough I just watched another video of yours where you were talking about a suitable scent for Galadriel. And I was thinking of Chanel and aldehydes immediately. @@Persolaise That’s actually a fair question.
