Namco Playstation // LEGENDARY ARCADE STICKS

- Let's take a look at the Namco arcade stick for the original PlayStation! The Namco is certainly well known in the retro gaming community, but does it live up to the reputation? Abso-freakin’-lutely! A perfect match for Tekken and Soulcalibur even to this day.
This video has been re-uploaded due to quality issues as well as my own personal OCD issues. The struggle is real.

Why isn't this channel bigger! Production quality is top notch, as well as the reviews. I'm planning on doing a Namco stick mod myself, would be cool to see a video from you on the process of the one you modded.
Thanks! Only started a few months ago so hopefully, it grows!
@@ScanlineCity Still planning on making the modding video guide for the Namco? I just got one from eBay and could really use the help lol.
@@Rasec1120 certainly! How's the condition?
@@ScanlineCity Like New in box! Has all original packaging and looks brand new.
@@Rasec1120 Just open it up, take out the wack pcb, buttons and board, put brook board with sanwa parts, done. It's not rocket science, it's the same for every stick that ever came out.
Still using this one lol. Bought mine in 1998 or so for the ridiculous price of 7,50 bucks. Its design is my fave. 2x3 layout, metal surface, the grey and yellow finish is just timeless. Thought I ditched it, and then, many years later, I found it tucked away in some storage box. Awesome find.
This channel is pure gold! I love the intro and the content.
I bought this stick NEW with Tekken 2 back in the day about the time it was released... I still have it (wish I still had that box, thou I bought others since) and to me it is the best ever, what I learned fighting games on... Actually still have it and man did it truly pass the test of time, it is a tank. It still works to this day and I could not imagine how much time I have into it... Other sticks have came and went, but this is my crown jewel. PS, I would never mod it myself. It sacrilegious, just my IMO. It was a game changer.
Thanks for the tip of using tyre weights, I've been searching for a good way to add some weight to a few of my arcade sticks. I love the videos, keep up the great work man!
The NES Advantage actually had a bag of clay in it, I swear.
There's a million ways to add weight, some more elegant than others.
Oh man!! Thank you for this video!! This was one of my all time best sticks ever!! I literally bought this brand new for 10$ at Kay - Bee toys back in 2002!! I personally think they just didn't know they still had it!! Perfect for PSX/PS2 and it made MAME more addictive then freebase! This stick made me a fighting game ninja and it did not matter if it was 2D or 3D....I made no mistakes with this stick, loved it!!
If I had 1 gripe, the damn cord could have been longer, shit, it felt like it was only 1ft!!. This and my old Sega Dreamcast rank as my best two sticks of all time. My Hori RAP3SA for my PS3 was a near draw second.
I seriously just yanked a PS1 off my counter the other day due to the short cord haha
Just discovered your channel and I am really enjoying these reviews. Great idea for a series!
Amazing quality content!!! Keep up the great work!
Thank you for this video! Just bought two of these after watching your review about them.
I have that stick too, 20 years after its release but it still works very well, and it's one of my favorite sticks.
Just came across your video as I am selling 2 of these and wanted to hear what they might be worth or get an idea how to advertise them. Can I just say you are a great presenter and the quality of your video was also top notch. Cheers.
Got two of these in decent condition, would probably open one up to do a basic restoration on the stick and button colour change while at it, awesome channel man, if you do a mod vid for the Namco that would be cool I cannot find a decent one on UA-cam especially for newcomers and your production quality is top notch, subscribed for sure! 🕹
Got one question for anyone that knows, this is my first stick, I like the buttons and wondering if anyone can confirm wether these stock Namco buttons are most similar to Sanwa, Crown/Samducksa, or Seimitsu? As far as I can feel these stock Namco buttons are totally flat too
Just picked up two of these and they are awesome! Looking forward to the mod guide.
Thinking about getting this to play the arcade compilation games for PS2 on a CRT... Seems to be one of the best solutions.
I have the Capcom and Midway collections on PS2 and I use this stick, definitely recommend 👍
In my late 30s, nearly 40 and dont often leave comments but I just stumbled on this channel, being a die hard Neo fan, player, collector for both AES/ROM and CD***
(LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my CDZ not even the load times bother me, plus I bought it brand new off the shelf way back when, so 100% no it was never opend or messed with!)
***I love joy-sticks, and am looking to get summit cool and special, as well as my Neos SEGAs Saturn and DreamCast are pure brilliance, the Japanese Saturn is unbelievably cool and its library, gamers in the West just don’t no!.. the Saturn was so popular in Japan, was massive! You have to give it to SONY they totally killed the DreamCast with just words really and by the time people realised the DC was(still is!) bloody amazing especially when compared to early PS2, it was too late, the DC, and SEGA with it died, the SEGA of 2021 isn’t the SEGA of 2001 at all, and even now, still brings tears🥺to😢ones😭eyes! Anyway I’m jabbering on especially for someone that “doesn’t comment much” this channel/the content is fantastic, absolutely perfect playing in the back-ground, glancing over when I hear summit I’m in love with too!
Right now I’m torn, my list so far is either...
•SEGAs final VirtuaStick/PS3,
DreamCast 1st party stick,
•SNKs NeoStick1/2 for either PlayStations2/3/Wii,
•NAMCOs PlayStation ArcadeStick,
•One of HORis arcade pros, not totally sure wich one though 🤔LOVE R•A•P 2SA...
•HORis TAITO licensed R•A•P VEWLIX for PS3/4,
•HORis UMarvelVsCapcom3 AV
•Go modern with either...
HORis 2019 to the present R•A•P/Hayabusa, HORis R•A•P-N or there I believe Japanese exclusive PS5 gray/silver/black “Fighting Stick”... I’ll be using it for fighters and shooter/SHMUPS, shooters more than fighters... I keep seeing other sticks, keep adding them to the list... great channel though, great content! Absolutely I subbed!
I never knew about this stick. Thanks for the video.
Wow those crt monitors, rgb all the way brother. Subscribed!!!
Great video (along with the rest). Not sure if you've a video on it, but it would've been nice to show how you added the wheel weights to the base of the stick.
I remember playing that stick a couple of times at evo 2010, felt so good on my hands lol
Great content on your channel. Had this stick in the playstation days, sold it unfortunately. But whats going on with your channel? Incredible camera work, great studio setup and so few videos? Hope there is more to come, subbed. Cheers.
Man iv just been super busy with other stuff. But I plan to release another episode in next day or so! I'm hoping I can be more consistant in 2020
I have had this stick since back in the day and it still plays like the day I first got it. Top quality components and build quality. It was built to last. If you can get it in good condition it's well worth the investment.
your channel is so colorful u abler to catch that 80s 90s vibe
i love it
i want to buy an old school shell for my pxn 0082 and so it will look old with new parts
where should i buy i want to spend 25$ top
I live in Israel and the product is expensive for me
thanks for ur time
and keep up with your fantastic job
Just picked one of these up - excited to use it
how easy or hard is it? id be a first timer
Bro I had that one and the 4 button Tekken one. They were both amazing, just seeing that is nostolgic.
Lookin forward for the mod video for this stick!
I love the 6 button stick layout I wonder if they made a 3 button like Hori did. I love that stick for my saturn
I just got a rusted one for 20$. Getting the rust off the plates is a pain but doable. I thought 2 of the buttons on it were duds but WD40 made them register inputs again. Even stock, rusted and a bit crusty I can still do electrics on it so that might be a testament on how good it is.
Please do a follow up showing how you mounted the JLF in there. Did you have to do modifications to the JLF shaft or anything to get it to fit without rubbing the bottom plate? I'm working on an LS-32 mod of a Namco PS1 stick right now and its pretty tricky.
Good stuff!
Thanks for video. I have a question. Is there a PS1 Classic compatible arcade stick? Can you suggest a brand?
I have two of these sticks.. they're just badass.. they feel so much better than most modern sticks around..
Funny I've had one for few years that I grabbed for maybe $30 max. It became my ol reliable for ps1/2 fighters before I got an adapter for my main stick. Still is one of my favorite sticks I own
I just recently got the Club Namco Tekken Hybrid Madcatz TE-S and man it's such a clean looking stick. I love how it's just all black everything with only the big red Namco logo on the right side panel. I never thought I'd own one since I just got into fightsticks/arcade sticks not too long ago, it was a total eBay score. Anyway, I felt like the PS1 Namco stick is somewhat of a predecessor to the Tekken Hybrid one.
Also, could you do a complete tour of your entire arcade stick collection? I'd love to get a better look at all of those legendary sticks hiding on that back shelf lol.
Awesome dude! Iv always thought that stick was cool. Out of all the Madcatz style sticks that is certainly one of my favorites. As a side note...the Madcatz V.S. stick with connector kit (Two sticks combined together) will be included in the series :)
@@ScanlineCity sweet, I've always wanted to see how they actually connect together.. I saw the connector plates go up for sale on eBay recently, but then I realized the V.S. sticks are still super expensive, not to mention getting two of them! Lol.
Anyway, keep up the great content, I'm looking forward to the next video!
I wish someone would make a reproduction of this stick with modern console support and the ability to select various stick/button configurations. I've always loved the size of this thing.
This stick I own. It is fantastic and I use it for Dreamcast, PS, and PS2.
I wish I had know about this stick back in the day, would have tipped all those battles my cousin and I had on SFA1 more in my favor 😁
Just pick it up now and take him on!
This is my goto PS 1&2 stick. Owned and used for years and still feels like new. They just did this right!
I just use my Etokki base stick with Brook board connected to a Brook PS4 to PS1/2 adapter.
Does it work on ps2 without an adaptor?
@@DipherOneCICrew yes
To me, best looking arcade stick ever made. And i LOVE it’s 6 buttons and not 8!
I'm lucky enough to have two of these, there is literally no need to do any modding. They feel more like seimitsu style buttons and the stick feels like a great all rounder.
I have 2 of these brand new in the box that i bought in 1996.
We are still waiting for a modding video for this NAMCO joystick
I don't own that stick, but the buttons on those might be actually arcade quality buttons, they were used on location by arcade ops in Japan and they were manufactered by Namco Japan themselves, I had a few old Namco and Jaleco Candy Cabs in the past, ( Namco consolette, EXcellcabinet) which came equipped with these buttons, they came in some colors that you won't find equivalents in the Sanwa /seimitsu catalogs.
edited: that revision you have there appears to be not the "legendary" one, it was one of the earlier revisions of the japanese version that came stock with the now discontinued Sanwa Flash optical joystick and Namco/Jaleco buttons made by Mitsubishi I described previously.
Ps: it's branded Namco but these were actually manufactured by Hori.
Yeah Im pretty sure you are correct. Not a lot of info out there on those buttons...but I LOVE them
Chest hair..... *breathes heavily*
First video I'm seeing of yours. SUPER great production quality, and holy cow that shelf on your left. PogChamp
Double PogChamp *MUSCLE BUSTERRRR* 5:04 PogChamp
There is no logical need to perform any mods on this stick, except maybe a bat top. Yes, bat tops will screw on with no issues. In my opinion, it is the best stick ever made. Yes, the buttons are soldered to the board, but the stock parts last forever. Get the old school Mayflash ps2 adapter for pc, no lag.
Are all bat tops made the same? Can I just buy one from Ebay and screw it on the namco arcade stick?
@@playstion33 Do not purchase from Ebay on this one. On Amazon, there is a bat top from Arcity that works extremely well www.amazon.com/dp/B07S7JQY4C/ref=twister_B07SDNK7SP?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 Then, you have this one from focusattack.com in different colors focusattack.com/crown-battop-red/ The latter one has almost a rubbery type of feeling with slightly better grip, but both are fine and very inexpensive.
Will this work with a PS2 - USB adapter on PC, or even other consoles?
If some of the buttons/micros stop working, is it possible to just put some generic ones in no problem?
Yes but you will need to solder new wire with quick disconnect to install new microswitch for the buttons
In the Hunt spotted !
ordered one brand new today with box newer played from Italy..
damn that intro was enough to get me to subscribe! so dope
I don't play fighting games but scrolling shoot 'em up games like Strikers 1945 , G-Darius or DonPachi on PS1. Can I use this controller? Is it going to work with this games?
It's going to be excellent for those games!
Any way to hook up my Namco Arcade Sticks to my Switch without introducing a ton of delay/lag?
Hmmm do the brook PS2 to PS4 adapters work perhaps?
Have you made a mod video
I bought one of these for 8 euro which I don't have anymore unfortunately. I miss the layout, shape and look of these I wish Namco would reissue it.
If you ever get the chance, could try and review the Hori real arcade PS ( playstation one) stick ? I wanted to see if there was a way to replace the joystick, without having screws sticking through the panel. Thank you
I believe that's basically the same stick as the fighting stick neo. I do believe I have a good solution for those coming soon!
Or perhaps your talking about the HRAP1 in which case we are covering that in near future as well
Scanline City sry for the late reply. I do believe it was the Hori RAP 1 for PSX
I wouldn't mod one of these, kind of rare for Namco to release hardware for home.
C e un adattatore ,un modo per farlo andare su ps5 o xbone?
Is this arcade stick supported on ps3 console?.. If it does..where to purchase.. Not available on amazon tho! 😶
I would go for the Brook ps2 adapters for this. If you want just for ps3 go for the pelican adapters but you will need to find those used on ebay
I own this stick
I have a hori mini stick ps4/ps5 version too
I'm going to switch the internal boards
So the mini is usable on ps2 and the namco one on ps5
Looks weird😂
I like my arcade sticks solder-free, meaning you don't have to deal with a giant circuit board in the way of the buttons and the wires.
Not so many compact arcade sticks out there. Could you do videos about modding the Mad Catz Street Fighter 4 SE or MC WWE All Stars Brawl Stick? Because it's perfect to mod and i really like it's compact dimensions and weight. I did two mods with these sticks.
First is a SE with Sanwa JLF Stick ad OBSF Buttons and second is a Brawl with Seimitsu LS 32 Stick and PS 15 Buttons.
The PS 15 Buttons from Seimitsu are very similiar to the Namco Stick stock buttons and i absolutely love them!

s16.directupload.net/images/190428/vtgfccg7.jpg
A video about the Mad Catz Street Fighter 4 TE would be nice, too . Because it's the stick which made arcade sticks popular and wide range available around the globe.
As arcade stick fan, modder and collector i love your channel. Keep it up!
Is there still going to be a Mod video on this Stick?
Yup. Just been super busy. Hoping to get back with momentum soon
That would be an awesome vid!
We are still waiting for this mod 😁
Honestly your channel is gold, please make more videos!
how about a room tour vid, cool vid, cool dude.
Was kinda hoping someone would request that haha....I'll put it in the lineup
I could get it in box for 35 euros recently. What solution should I get to use it on my Dreamcast / Xbox / Gamecube / PS3 / PS4 / MAME... ? Thank you for your videos, they are great.
Well there are alot of good adapters - especially from Brook. Get those!
Otherwise go for a retro board from brook - but those namcos dont have a lot of room so it will be very tight. That's why I'm thinking brook adapters are best
@@ScanlineCity Thanks a big lot, take care :)
just picked this up, is it still a viable stick? paid 20 CIB.
Hell yeah it is
L ho trovato a 40 euro?e’ onesto come prezzo?
Has anyone got the Namco Arcade stick to work in Windows 10? I have a usb conberter (not a typo) that had it working on windows 8.1
The brook ps2 to xbox one super converter is excellent for this
@@ScanlineCity Thanks mate! Keep up the great videos.
If you wanna go really namco
Just play namco games with this
Please! Namco Arcade Stick mod video!
does this one work with the ps2?
Yes it does !
Is this the better stock for PS1/ps2?
29€ is a good price?
Thx
Yes!
@@ScanlineCity thx ,finally bougth one unit un mint condition for 34€ shipping includes. Next monday test It!
How do you adapt this to megadrive ?
You can use the tototek adapter. However we are about to release an episode about the new brook ps3/ps4 to megadrive/PC engine you will want to check out
Scanline City I have one of those Brooks adapter ps2 to PS4, but buttons are all wrong if I connect my venom ps4 arcade stick . Btw Amazing channel!
Hmmm that's strange about the ps2 to ps4 adapter...its always worked great with all my sticks. But are you talking about their ps2 to ps4 or ps4 to ps2? What are you plugging into? Try to update firmware on your adapter either way. As far a Genesis is concerned, I don't recommend the tototek in many ways because the button layout is messed up...though I get it does the job in some ways. The new brook megadrive adapter has perfect layout for arcade sticks when in 6 button mode.
I'm curious how you're playing Battle Garegga with this stick.
Honestly I think these sticks are great for anything. But i would go for something with a seimitsu lever like a LS32 if you love shmups.
@@ScanlineCity No, I mean how is he playing it? It's not on PS1 or PS2.
@@adammartinez6033 I'm using a tototek psx to saturn adaptor on my saturn or I'm using a brook ps2 to xbox one super converter playing on my groovymame ...cant remember
@@ScanlineCity I didn't even imagine that. It's very useful to know. Thank you.
You know you gotta do the Xarcade stick from the early 2000s (PS2)
Interesting....I'll look into it
I assume you're talking about the x-arcade solo right? Like seen here? videogamecritic.com/extras/reviews/xsolo.htm
The only thing worthy of praise on the x-arcade as far as fighting games is the outer shell. The stick is known for input drops with fighting games, and x-arcade staff (after over a decade) refuses to include stock IL sticks.
Will this work on ps2?
Yes
soooo where's the modding video
Ughhh man I trying haha. Just swamped…but I’ll get to it
@@ScanlineCity oh hey no worries ! good luck with everything
You content is way to good to not have more subs.
Does it work with ps2 ? :)
Yup!
Yes, with a few exceptions--
Taito Legends Vol. 1 (you might want to play those games on MAME instead)
Namco Museum 50th Anniversary (download the ISO's of the five Namco Museum PS1 compilations along with the EPSXE. Rather than downloading the Encore, download Rolling Thunder, King & Balloon, Rompers, Wonder Momo, Motos, and Dragon Saber on MAME instead)
Midway Arcade Treasures Vol. 3 (use the racing wheel instead)
It is the best [ lap top ] arcade stick. Too light-weight for desktop.
Not inexpensive
