    I am an African-American and as far as I have seen, most people in America do not take their words or the meanings of their words as intently and as seriously as words were meant to be taken. Also, I believe the idea of Ori is expanding. We carry memories in our hands, heart, gut, etc. We can also pick up new energies and souls as we live, which will attach to our bodies. The body has what is called ley lines so you have many bodies in one, therefore a person can possibly have multiple Ori's. We are multiplicitous, not just one. Deity has many aspects or paths and so does each human.

    It's very interesting. In German we say "Kopf" nowadays when we talk about the head. "Haupt" has some connotation to it I don't even know how to explain and I don't know the origin. But you can use it maybe when you talk about the "head of the home". So I would say it has some sort of authority or something in in that direction connotated to it. It's set above something else. That's how I would describe the connotation I have when I hear the word. But as I said I don't know the exact origin. =)
    As allways a great video! It teaches me so much about your culture and helps me to understand better. Thank you!

    Sounds like some of what Ori represents is consciousness.

    • @yorubalessons
      @yorubalessons  2 роки тому

      Yes. The soul and consciousness are included in what it is; it’s a much bigger phenomenon.

    What are some of your favorite books for recommended reading for seekers just beginning to learn Isese? Would also love to see a video on how "meditation" is or isn't used in the tradition. Thank you for all you share. Your videos are invaluable.

      There is an Ifá book that I will recommend as soon as I get a hard copy of it. It’s so good and detailed. Thank you.
      Seclusions and meditations are a huge part of our spirituality, and I will discuss it, as requested. Music, chants, and dance are sometimes involved, so it’s not always like the mainstream/pop-culture “meditation.”

    Ori is like one’s aura. Kinda of…Ochoosi rules my orí.
    English language is a mix of everyone’s ideas and concepts mixed up; including the West African language influences like: Okay!

    I believe yoruba people love puns and double speak. Just like with Orunmila's story of Ajepo (dine together) and Ajepo (eat and vomit).
    People translate kabiyesi as one who can't be questioned but it doesn't mean that. Ka bi iye si. We should birth him attention.

    Thank you so so much for your work. I just discovered it yesterday and I stil have a loooooot watch :). A question about the ori. If I think about stories on choosing the ori from Obatala before we enter earth. Do you think that each incarnation chooses an ori? Or do we choose an ori once so that every incarnation has the same inner ori? Hope that you can shed your light and knowledge on this.

    • @yorubalessons
      @yorubalessons  Рік тому +1

      The higher self (or soul) doesn't change. We may choose different physical orí (different incarnations) at different times, but the soul is the same. I recommend this video: ua-cam.com/video/hj5atAgDxgE/v-deo.html.

    What then is the Yorùbá word for head, please?

  • @alexandergriggs2823
    @alexandergriggs2823 2 роки тому

    From what I can gather, the Hindu and Yoruba cultures are opposite in thinking but share similar values. In meditation of the chakras you begin with the root and works your way to the head. In Hinduism, if the root isn't balanced the others cannot be balanced - similar, but opposite to Yoruba belief about the Ori that starts with the head and works its way down.

    Is having Pure OCD and intrusive thoughts a sign that you have a bad Ori? Please let me know, I remember hearing you can’t alter a bad Ori so if thats the case should I just stop this practice?
    I’ve enjoyed Ori meditation since starting recently but thats quite troubling since I’ve suffered with harsh Intrusive thoughts ever since I can remember. Some sources say you can call to Orunmilla to fix your Ori though which is a little confusing because it clashes with the idea that you’re done for. This idea that you can have a bad higher self is a little bleak.
