  • Central to the chorister’s life at Westminster Abbey Choir School is singing as part of the Abbey choir. It is just a part of the rhythm of each day and this discipline gives a remarkable structure to school life.
Boys have a rehearsal at 8.15 a.m. and they sing Evensong most weekdays at 5.00 p.m. In doing so they join the adult professional singers on equal terms and this is part of what makes choristership such an outstanding education.
The choir’s repertoire is extensive; it ranges from early sixteenth-century polyphony to the very most recent commissions. Choristers absorb this rich legacy as a matter of course.
Beyond the normal daily services are the grand occasions of state, often televised, at which the choir takes pride of place, together with concerts, recitals and recordings, both in this country and abroad.
