  • In 1986, Daniel Pohl was stuck in communist Czechoslovakia, looking for a way to escape life under totalitarian rule. His exit strategy was unusual, to say the least. After realizing that he could not rely on traditional forms of transport, Daniel chose to zip line his way to freedom. After teaming up with a physicist, the two devised a plan using a series of DIY pulleys. Thankfully, his journey proved to be mission possible as he successfully crossed the Iron Curtain, making a safe escape into Austria.

      +Michael Pieruccini You're a bit late and seeing the new title "this man escaped communism by zip line." The original title was "how one man crossed the iron curtain by zip line." So as you can see, GBS agreed and changed the title to something that makes sense.

      The Communists in Greece used to "preach" at their gatherings that the iron curtain and the Berlin wall were actually an "anti-fascist wall" designed to keep the evil NATO fascists out. I assume that the various commie parties around Europe and elsewhere were playing a similar tune. The US-Mexico border wall I'm afraid is stupid idea - will kill the environment, will damage Rio Grande and with very questionable effectiveness of keeping people out

    So if there was only two of then, who took the pictures?? There are several picture where they are both in the image. I don't doubt their adventure but there had to have been a third party. Never mind, I found out that the pictures were taken a few days later after they had made the crossing. Great story. I'm glad it worked out and led them to a great life afterwards.

      +Luke Bruce Who told you that? The bots in the comment section? There's a reason why over 20 million people were sent to the gulag on charges of treason/conspiracy/unloyalty, why the Berlin wall was torn down immediately given the chance, and why borders were armed in the Soviet Union(not to keep illegal trespassers out, but to keep citizens in.)

    • @lukebruce5234
      @lukebruce5234 6 років тому

      The incarceration rate was indeed very high but its unfair to say '20 million' when it was that throughout the whole time. How many people have been to American prisons in the last 50 years? 50 million? Also it is incorrect to say all of them were there for the charges of treason and conspiracy.
      i.gyazo.com/e4e8079461c8625b3d1eb859f17de5df.png
      Though I am not personally against the freedom of movement these restrictions made sense. The West has always been engaging in a massive brain drain which has been detrimental to the progress of the very societies. In fact after the borders were closed they got so desperate they let anyone in including murderers and showered them with benefits and labels such as 'heroic fighters against communism'.
      en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Josef_and_Ctirad_Ma%C5%A1%C3%ADn
      Interestingly these guys never even fought against communism, they simply murdered people. I wouldn't be even surprised if the guy in this video were a criminal or if he got a girl knocked up and wanted to bail.
