- This is a small segment of this overseas awards show (rebroadcast on ABC-TV).
This was the first I ever saw of the band CHUMBAWUMBA and their song "Tubthumping".
This performances COMBINES both pre-recorded tracks AND their LIVE additonal vocals! (BTW, "sold out the dockers" must refer to a British longshoreman's union or something.)
March-May 1998,recorded with an analog signal (aka "rabbit ears") on a home VCR.

This is an edited re-post of an earlier clip. CHUMBAWUMBA,btw once famously said that since they are anarchists, they 'don't care" about royalties,LOL!! (Sorry that the clip fragment of SIR GEORGE MARTIN talking about-and introducing- Fleetwood Mac @ 4:04 had to go.) Rights probably owned by BPI (British Phonograph Institute).
Who’s disappointed not to see Prescott’s drenching?
Is it anywhere on UA-cam? Can't believe in an event filled with TV cameras it wasn't captured!
@@asterickjones I'd also love to see it again.
That was during Fleetwood Mac's performance.
I wanna see it
All I remember was seeing pictures of the after moment in Melody Maker. I wish I kept the copy. Prescott looked pissed though!
I'm here after reading about the New Labour bit on Wikipedia. Glad to see the performance has been preserved, even if the quality of the recording isn't too good.
Yeah,I liked this song...and the way it was presented. The copyright holder doesn't give a damn about releasing it....
I was determined this should be HEARD,and not gather dust in the vaults!!
The official brit awards released it in the best quality then they took it down for some reason.
Still one of the most powerful passionate and symbolic performances ever produced on British soil
I CAN'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT THE PICTURE QUALITY. The only other copy is in the hands of the BPI (British
copyright authorities) and I only got this by accident. Better than not at all!
Well thats just not good enough is it 😂😂😂. Seen clearer pictures from a Memorex C-60 playing off a 1985 Goodmans Personal Stereo plugged into an overhead projector . (But thanks for posting!)
The image quality is ahead of its time tbh.
@@HighlandMike325 shhh
Dude, this is still great. I remember watching this back when i saw the rerun (When Much Music aired the Brit Awards). However I was hoping to see John Prescott drenched!
Anything criticising Blair is going to be kept down. They got rid of Spitting Image in 1996 and Mark Thomas.
"New Labour sold out the dockers, just like they'll sell out the rest of us!"
Starmer's Labour froze the pensioners just like they'll freeze the rest of us!
I’ve just watched the premiere of a documentary about Dunstan and the band. It premiered in Finland last Friday. OUTSTANDING! A must watch. Very very funny. I was surprised with how sweet he is in real life.
Finding live covers where they uncover a different message from the original is like finding a really cool easter egg in a game that no one found yet.
They're doing a version of their own song, not a cover. When another band or artist performs your song, then it's a cover. Apart from that I totally agree with you.
How badly de-interlaced do you want it?
*Yes.*
When the vice-premier John Prescot (to use US terms) had bucket of ice-water tipped on him - where's that on you tube...
Great audio quality!
Aggressive intensity best performance
And one of only TWO songs that fit the "Pooting" rhythm....
Was hoping to see Deputy Prime Minister Prescott getting ice bucket tipped over him!
This was only about 10 months labour got into power
Who's here after hearing about john Prescotts death?
there's a version of the chumbawamba documentary on youtube which has some footage of the brit awards.
First gig i saw was these guys, got to hand it to them
Isn't this when he threw a bucket of water over John Prescott
that is right - that is what i was looking for on youtube but very difficult to find that bit..
I came here to see that! Disappointing. Wouldn't happen now. A generation indoctrinated to back the Establishment. Thankfully not all were brainwashed.
@artist formerly known as nobcheesy They still are
Was it the ice water from his champagne bucket?
@@citizen1163 yeah ok
You beautiful brave people, I salute you!
Chumbawamba, there's no second U.
pic quality is shit but the band were immense! just seeing people going on about the brits tonight on facebook and i dont know hardly any of the people on it! brits now need more bands like Chumbawamba cos they had character and just didnt give a fuck :)
I've got a feeling they won't be voting for Labour.
Fucking epic
Are these guys political or no? Cant tell.
would seem so.....can't blame them....
@@RonaldVaughan well they started political
Very, they were anarchists living in a squat that started a band as a joke
Where is the pouring?
POOT,POOT,POOT,POOT,POOT,POOTY!!
Danni Behr would get both pipes
?
@@jean-lucpicard5510??
@@antonywagon4564 I'm asking what do you mean by that?
"New labour sold out the dockers just like they will sell out the rest of us"
Very prophetic words when you consider labour sold nearly all the UKs assets and signed over laws to Brussels
Wow. The half-life of missing the point really is forever.
Came here to see John Prescott being doused with water. Stayed for the ANTIFA flags.
I have to admit before I turned Conversative/Republican (A few years ago), this was the only band (And Rage Against Machine) were the best when I was younger back in 1998. I still believe they were/still great politically. I still respect them to this day! I remember when Alice Nutter said if you can't afford our album, GO STEAL IT from higher box stores! What Anarachy! I steal have my cd (Btw i bought mine at a second hand store!)
I wonder if the other musicians knew he was going to change the lyrics. If not, that could have caught them off guard.
Trust me, they knew, lol.
Christ alive, I’d forgotten how terrible this was. Truly a nadir in British popular song.
I came here to see Chumbawamba tip the ice bucket over new Labour Deputy PM Prescott's head. Disappointed.
Blair's Brit Pop! 😠
Piss poor!
