      you're more than welcome, you're actually inspiring me to the breaking point... I've been playing guitar, some bass out live for almost 30 years, been there done that, bought the t- shirt.... but, you move me.. there's thousands of players on you tube. they are all great, but you.. you have what It takes to burn my ass to start recording and playing more....recording is going to be my biggest hurdle... but it's gotta happen. 👍 keep doing what you're doing... it's not only taking you places, it's inspiring many...

    I've been using Tech21 products for 20 years. For me they have always been the answer. Thank you bringing the professional respect the unit deserves. I own the Fly Rig 5 Cali and it is awesome. I use it direct for live performance going straight to the PA, the output is low impedance. I wish it had a soft knee compression for cleans, a tuner and another gain stage.

    Thank you for the great demo. It gave me a much greater understanding of how I can get the most out of this rig. I played around with the ideas you suggested and improved my sound immediately.

    Hey Pete. This was another great demo with great playing and sound. I subscribed to your channel after watching your Echoplex pedal video, which I did end up purchasing. I have been searching for a proper Brown Sound for years. I have a Freidman BE100, the VH Flanger, a VH phaser, a TC Hall of fame reverb, and now the Echoplex pedal. My journey is complete. Everybody who hears it says "holy cap you sound just like Eddie.." Too bad I can't play just like Eddie.... Anyway, your Echoplex demo was the one that helped me find the missing link for my favorite sound, so I thank you. Thanks again for all of the cool videos you post!

    You can just tell we on the edge of major changes to guitar "amplification." Yes, there's always been other equipment on the fringe, but you can definitely see the day [not too far off] in which tube amps are the fringe. Real nice job Pete. Of course...I want one. Hard to believe it's only $249.

    • @davelanciani-dimaensionx
      @davelanciani-dimaensionx 7 років тому +1

      The Cali version preamp is based on the Mesa Boogie MkII amp, and the RK5 preamp is based on the Richie Kotzen OMG Drive pedal.

    • @jonatanguitar
      @jonatanguitar 7 років тому

      Cool, but what is your personal impression of them? How do they sound?

    • @davelanciani-dimaensionx
      @davelanciani-dimaensionx 7 років тому +2

      I think the overall sounds are very good, but I do find that they seem to lack a "tight" and quick response. They have a bit of a "saggy feel" to them, more like a classic old tube amp. Very dynamic. The sounds work great for slower playing where your notes need time to "bloom". Not really for tight technical metal, but great for more classic rock sounds. For more metal sounds, you need to add a tube screamer in front to tighten up the response and to tame the "sag".
      -additional comment -
      The Plexi model that Pete is playing has more of a Marshall vibe, focusing on the High end and Mids, so it sounds a bit brighter and tighter, but I wonder how it "feels" when you play the notes. Is there a lag or does it feel nice and percussive?

  • @tristanavakian
    @tristanavakian 5 років тому

    Great demo as usual. Great piece, perfect backup for a high end modeler and fine as a main course for classic rock. For the Scandinavian dates on the Mitch Malloy tour I did in 2016 it’s all I used.

    I have the Tech21 RK5
    Pairing it with a compressor, a boss GE7 as a mid boost really makes it shine

    Pete, you're such a tasteful player! I really enjoy checking out all your gear reviews. My Fly Rig 5V2 came last week and I am pretty stoked so far. We ran it direct into the Focusrite last night and were blown away by the professional sound quality. One thing I've discovered about it is, I can't seem to get any harmonic feedback when I want it - no matter how close I shove the guitar pickup in front of the amp. Sometimes I WANT some feedback, like at end of a song or lead part. I plan to work on it some and see what I can do with it. I probably just haven't had it long enough to tweak it to my liking. But thanks for another great review!

    • @freegee3503

      Have you found your feedback?

  • @garystackhouse5787
    @garystackhouse5787 7 років тому

    I used the FlyRig5 as the foundation around which I built my pedalboard. I run all the drive before the FR5 and all the mod and delay after. The SansAmp section gives me TONS of shaping options and I really love the Plexi portion as a hefty drive, then I use the DLA with a very short delay and a bit of "Drift" (mod) as a doubler to give me a sort of Robert Palmer/April Wine kind of sound. I have a wah, Klon, 808, and Ram's Head Fuzz in front of it, and a Memory Lane Jr. delay, Electric Mistress, EQ (for a shaped lead boost) and RotoChoir leslie sim in back. It all runs out in stereo to a 13 watt Fender Excelsior and a Vox AC-15. It sounds great with the stereo leslie, and even better with the addition of dueling trem circuits on the two amps!! Swirly fat goodness!

    This demo confirmed what I had originally thought when I checked out one of these fly rigs. I love all the features , but the sound ends up a little small sounding. Also the top end is bright and non-musical to my ears. Great demo, you make everything sound great.

      I have crazy hearing. If a device doesn't have pristine components, I hear odd harmonics in the top end that bother me. It's a great unit. It's kind of like the difference between a hand-wired point-to-point, and and a micro PC board.

    Had it. Prefer the drive section in the FR5 to the RK5. But found the Sansamp section a bit lacking in volume. It was hard having unity volume with a clean tone, cause you had to rise the gain so much to be even. Still a great concept.

    Great demo! I'm curious about how the tone control of the plexi section was set, was it at 12 o clock? It's a great nice rocking distorted sound especially for the rhythm parts, but it is also very bright. Would be interested to hear if it'd be possible to tame it a bit.
