The brown cheese is not looked at as "snacks", but you are right it is very popular. If you fancy it, it is much cheaper if you buy a whole cheese and slice it yourself. Norwegians use brown cheese on freshly baked bread or rolls.

The next time in Norway go out on a limb and ask when they have a sign that says "Rømmegrøt". We also have a meat cut called "fenalår" that's an acquired taste, I don't hold it against you if you prefer not to but the trip would be such a waste.
Firkløver is a great classic Norwegian chocolate, but the newer "Fruktnøtt" is an absolute delight! 25:42 - before you open that package, I declare that you´re going to be sorry you only bought one of those.

Last time I got them I randomly read the backside of the package and your supposed to have them with milk. I would say I prefer them without tho. Just Straight out of the package. Freia's bird logo Each and every chocolate piece of Freia milk chocolate is decorated with the Marabus stork symbol. This logo originates from a competition organized by Freia in 1907, which involved decorating a cake box. The winner of the competition was retoucher Oscar Carl Augen Kristoffersen (1884-1908).
Norway's brown cheese is technically not cheese at all. Its main ingredient is the whey left behind after curds have been removed in the cheesemaking process. As a by-product of the cheesemaking process, brown cheese is a classic example of wasting nothing. Leftover whey from the cheesemaking process is boiled down until it caramelizes.
Hey 👋🏻 thanks for sharing. I love to hear the process behind it. Defo a great snack, we don’t have anything similar over here, also cool to hear that nothing is left over & a yummy snack is made from it ☺️
@@littleniks I recommend tasting the brown cheese on some waffles or if you can get it, Norwegian vaffler, or maybe some bakery products like scones or something, with a bit of spreadable butter underneath, that gives the caramelized cheese a different taste
@@littleniks Whey, the byproduct of making cheese and butter, is basically all water and lactose (dairy sugar). The process of boiling whey down to a sweet concentrate is similar to how tree saps (maple and birch) and plant juices (sugar cane etc.), the difference is that Norwegian brown cheese has dairy added back into the "caramel" to make it a block of 'fudge-like cheese'. Norwegian brown cheese has many different styles that wildly change the flavor, the one you tried is called "Fløtemys" which has heavy cream from cows milk added at the end (fløte = heavy cream, mys = whey). Other variations can have goat or sheeps milk/heavy cream blended in different rates with cows milk/heavy cream. Typically the more goat milk/heavy cream the "sharper" the taste is, the one you tried "Fløtemys" is the mildest style with little to no sharpness. We also have seasonal spices added to the "Fløtemys" when autumn and christmas comes around, they're always a favorite in our household. And yes, having a bit of sweet jam with Norwegian brown cheese is a must- especially if you eat one of the sharp styles. It's remarkably similar to the Peanutbutter and Jam combination, it even has a bit of that "drymouth" or "clawing" character. Only Peanutbutter has zero tartness or sweetness (unless added with sugars).
So, Fløtemysost is not a snack - it´s a spread! Have it on toast, that´s amazing! The heat really brings out all the best flavours! Try to combine that with some apricot jam, it´s delicious!
no one each btown cheese as snacks:) you eag it on a slice of bread or crackers witv butter. many use some jam on top. the one you choose is the mildest and sweetest from cow milk.. originsl brown cheese is made from goat milk and has a distinct sharp taste.
Awh thank you for watching ☺️ also that sounds like an amazing combo, I will have to try it. Oooh & the jingle for smash is definitely correct because I’ve instantly regretted not bringing a suitcase full back 😂🤭

12:25 - yeah, Reindeer are farmed for eating, and we have a lot of Moose that´s very good eating as well. Whale is not all that common, but sure, some people like that as well. It´s mammal meat, like a steak, but with a weird fishy taste as far as I´m concerned. Whenever you see "Viking" on any package in Norway, well that´s a sure sign that it´s for tourists... That does not include any museums or attractions otherwise. 14:53 - Bamse+mums means something along the lines of Bear yummies. Every kid in this country has gotten sick on these! You just want more and more, until you´ve suddenly had enough that they want out again...

Oh yeah I think I remember bugles, don’t think I see them around here anymore unless I’m looking in the wrong places 😂 but yess they are like those but we just need ones with chocolate on them 🤤
4:29 - the bird is a Marabou stork, symbol of our largest chocolate company, Freia. Also the name of the biggest chocolate producer in Sweden, which is closely related to ours. I love that you actually broke the "fingers" off to eat one at a time, the proper way! We´ll get a hizzy fit up here when people try to take a bite out of the entire plate ;) 5:48 - My favourite type of chips! Yeah, they are "high quality" if you´d like to call fatty, salty snacks quality ;) You should really try "Spansk paprika" though, they´re even better than this one IMO. If you want Norwegian tradition, I´d say you need Maarud´s "Ost & Løk" though. They´re cheese and onion flavour, and a very popular "staple" snack in Norway :)
Awh thank you for this ☺️ & yess it’s a beautiful country, we will definitely be back 🥰 so much beauty, wonderful people & delicious food! Thank you for watching 🥰
Just from a quick look at the whale sausage, it contains "only" 50 % whale. The rest is pork, pork tongue, salt, spices, pork protein, sugar, garlic etc. A proper whale steak is 100 %.
The brown cheese is not cheese really. It is produced by boiling the milk whey containing the milk sugar into a caramelized substance. It thickens and hardens when cooled. It has been made for centuries in Norway.
Next time, try dried reindeer meat (known lokally as "tørkakjøtt" or "tørket kjøtt", preferably dried reindeer heart), dried and saltet lamb ("fenalår"), or dried cod ("tørrfisk"). 😊 Otherwise, cheers for trying out norwegian stuff. Kind regards from 70 degrees North🇸🇯
Cool that you liked Norwegian foods 👍 I saw somewhere online that Norway is actually known for really boring food, and im not sure how they came to that conclusion. I guess some of the traditional dishes can be a bit bland (or even distasteful like boiled cod, torskerogn, lungemos, smalahove, and syltelabber) compared to more flavorful foods with a lot of spices, but what kinda weirdo doesnt like fårikål, pinnekjøtt, ribbe, kjøttkaker, pork chops, or "flesk i duppe"? 💀
Haha with all the countries I’ve tried snacks from Norway defo rates high 🤭 I also thought you guys do fish dishes like nowhere else 🤭! You’d be mad no to enjoy all those yummy snacks 🤭🥰
Solo is like you say an orange soft drink that taste much like Fanta. A life hack, if you are into soft drinks, but don't want all the sugar ... and don't want to use a fortune on buying the stuff, go to a typical norwegian supermarket and buy a bottle of Fun Light with orange taste. Then poor a little of it in a glass and add carbonized water, either from bottles bought in the supermarket, or even better from one of those carboniser machines. That will taste just like Solo / Fanta and is sugar free.
The bird on the chocolate is a Marabou stork. The Swedish sister company is actually called Marabou, but ironically does not have a Marabou stork as a logo on the chocolate.
That chocolate was so delish 🤤 & Oooh that’s cool to know, funny I remember the Marabou brand when we done the Swedish snack video, didn’t know they are a sister company. Thanks for watching 🥰
Great review. A good selection of popular Norwegian snacks. Kvikk Lunsj (quick lunch) is probably the most Norwegian thing there. It's far superior to Kitkat because the chocolate is better as you noticed. Norwegians are proud of that. Norwegians typically have them when they go on their many long walks. One thing. You missed out on salty liquorice. Very popular in Norway. Not to everyone's taste but I love it.
Awh thank you, I love hearing how you guys enjoy the snacks! I can definitely see why the Kvikk Lunsj is very popular, it was delicious 🤤! Im from norway :) 1:50 have it on toast with butter. or a slice of bread with butter then the brown cheese :) best are def the smash. unresistable. fattens me up very quickly haha
The whale sausage is little bit of a tourist trap, its not very common to eat it as a sausage. Usually its more like a dinner dish with brown sause and potatos. And just to clearify we do not eat any endangered or anything like that in norway, only the common minke whale, which is sustainable under a yearly quota like any other animal we eat
2:31 omg! It fersking BROWN CHEESE it’s not supposed to taste like cheddar just SWEET! It’s normal cheese but caramelised! And you put it on bread with butter.
Hey, thanks for watching. I am aware it’s supposed to be on bread. For the purpose of the video we thought we’d just try it on its own to get a taste for it. Also we don’t have anything similar in the UK so sweet cheese was a bit different for us, hence the reaction 🤭
1:07 Brunost is not a snack. It's a spread. You should have it on the bread slice. 4:31 - 4:3721:47 There is no flamingo logo on it, it's a picture of a stork. 4:55 It's not a Kit Kat. 12:45 Is also a spread, not a snack.
All correct there. I'll just add extra info that the stork is a Marabou Stork, which ties in with Freia's expansion into Sweden if they test Swedish snacks in the future, and find that the chocolate taste similar. It's cause it's basically Freia's.
Norwegian here. Never saw brown cheese as “snacks” ever lol. We always eat that with either a slice of bread or with waffles. Calling is cheddar, but sweet tho… nah. Almost sounds like an insult of some kind😝 Of course it’s individual how you wanna enjoy this cheese, but if you want it the authentic way, on a slice of bread or on your waffle is how it’s done. It’s also much better straight out of the fridge. You don’t want it too out for too long so it gets wet and sticky. That’s just gross. We have various types of this type of caramelized brown cheese. Very traditional. Fun fact: All Brits are as high as 24% Scandinavian, mostly of Norwegian decent due to the Norse settlers recent genetic study show. My bf is Icelandic and he’s part Irish. Icelanders even have “Celtic skin”. Also when they 1st settled Iceland from Western Norway, no woman wanted to come with, so they stopped over in Dublin, which was a viking settlement at the time, and female slaves to take with them. Also the very 1st people to settle Iceland was actually Irish monks who were killed when the Norse arrived, luckily they left their livestock for the invaders to have. Iceland also have many Celtic place names.

The brown cheese is not looked at as "snacks", but you are right it is very popular. If you fancy it, it is much cheaper if you buy a whole cheese and slice it yourself. Norwegians use brown cheese on freshly baked bread or rolls.
Here is a tip if you still have some browncheese or brunost what we do in norway is we take a loaf of bread and put some smeared butter on the bread then we but brown cheese on the loaf with smeared butter PS its healthy no sugar at all and it is not good for melting
The KitKat company sued Freia for KvikkLunsj, but they didn't win.
Greetings from Oslo! The chocolate roll «Smil» means «to smile» in english. It also says on the packaging «invented to be shared» ➡️ Both a smile and «Smil» is meant to be shared ❤ Like you just did in the video!
Hey 👋🏻 thank you for watching. Oh my goodness that’s such a cute slogan, I love it. Also thanks for sharing, I appreciate it 🥰
I think the chocolate in Norway generally is too light and too sweet.
Every time I travel out of the country I always miss my norwegian candy and snacks 😂😂
Same! i don't' eat much candy outside my country as the tastes are so different, and often times worse than what I'm used to. same about tap water
Haha & now I get why 🤭
The next time in Norway go out on a limb and ask when they have a sign that says "Rømmegrøt". We also have a meat cut called "fenalår" that's an acquired taste, I don't hold it against you if you prefer not to but the trip would be such a waste.
Firkløver is a great classic Norwegian chocolate, but the newer "Fruktnøtt" is an absolute delight!
25:42 - before you open that package, I declare that you´re going to be sorry you only bought one of those.
The chocolate was honestly so delicious 🤤 and oh my goodness yess, I am gutted I didn’t pack a suitcase full of smash 🤭😂
That is a brown goat cheese, used as topping on toast, also you can use jams on it, just a teaspoon, or with waffels,
Its not from goat, it is from cow! From goat is darker!
Hi I'm Norwegian 🇳🇴 and I love bacon snacks 😊
Heii eg elsker tortilla chips
So a little fun fact: The Cartoonies are actually a cereal. One pack I belive is one bowl of cereal. I been eating them through the years but straight out of the package. Last time I got them I randomly read the backside of the package and your supposed to have them with milk. I would say I prefer them without tho. Just Straight out of the package. The cookie around them kinda get mushy.
Also there was way more chock late in them before. Idk what happened but when I had them last time there was barley any chocolate in them..
Oh my goodness no way 🤭maybe that’s why they tasted so different! When they used to be over here I’m so sure they were marketed as biscuits 🤭 but we don’t have them anymore! So yeah maybe they have changed!
Also thanks for watching ☺️
7:39 - what are those? I´ve lived in Norway my entire 47 years, and I´ve never seen those... How are these Norwegian snacks?
8:54 - now we´re talking! I can never have just one Smil! They are to die for!
10:47 - You´re dead on with the old school branding - this is a very old snack indeed! 1973 kind of old!
7:39 yes i an from norway too but i have never den those😅?
I’m not to fond of fresh laban, but you open the bag and forget it for about one or two weeks, they are perfect
On the bamsemums pack is says included mums. It is a word play as moms is a common word for VAT.
Those snacks looked delicious, good to see a peek of Benny too, cant wait to see your Norway trip👍👍👍
@@GillianHazel-g1u Hello you ☺️ I hope all is well!
Oh my goodness yess, Norway had such a yummy selection of snacks 🤭!
Excited to bring you guys along on our Norway adventure!

Freia's bird logo
Each and every chocolate piece of Freia milk chocolate is decorated with the Marabus stork symbol. This logo originates from a competition organized by Freia in 1907, which involved decorating a cake box. The winner of the competition was retoucher Oscar Carl Augen Kristoffersen (1884-1908).
Hey thanks for watching ☺️ also thank you for the info, that’s so cool to know ☺️
In norway the brown cheese called BRUNOST😊
@Chafuya Hey 👋🏻 oooh that sounds good! I will definitely have to try it on some different things 🤭
@@littleniks fresh baked goods, real butter and strawberry jam on top of the brown cheese, it is delicious!
The reason brown cheese is brown is because the whey is double-boiled until the milk sugars start to caramelize.
So, Fløtemysost is not a snack - it´s a spread! Have it on toast, that´s amazing! The heat really brings out all the best flavours! Try to combine that with some apricot jam, it´s delicious!
Thanks for this, I must try this combo 🤭
the slogan for Smash is basically "it's hard to just eat one".
seems like that was about right xD
Haha yess I have to agree 🤭 that pack didn’t last long 😂
Did it rain because I am from Norway did you go in the winter or summer
I love smashhhhh its so good!
Lawv yer akksints, guys 💚💙 This was a fun watch 😊
Best wishes from a 🇳🇴 former college student in Dohblin
Hey 👋🏻 Awh thank you so much, I appreciate the lovely comment 🥰
no one each btown cheese as snacks:) you eag it on a slice of bread or crackers witv butter. many use some jam on top. the one you choose is the mildest and sweetest from cow milk.. originsl brown cheese is made from goat milk and has a distinct sharp taste.
The slogan to smash is you cant have just one. 😂 its addictive😜
Haha well the slogan is definitely correct 🤭😂
4:00 Funny that they didn't understand what it meant, but it actually says Quick Lunch when written in the Norwegian way.
The brown cheese on toast, with orange marmalade with peel and salty butter. You can not get a better snack
Awh thank you for watching ☺️ also that sounds like an amazing combo, I will have to try it. Oooh & the jingle for smash is definitely correct because I’ve instantly regretted not bringing a suitcase full back 😂🤭
@@littleniks I introduced my English friend to them when I lived there, so now I send them to her every birthday and Christmas ;) lol She curses not having them in England ♥
Thank you so much for all the info on all of the products ☺️ I love hearing what you guys enjoy & what is actually popular etc. so yeah I appreciate it ☺️
Freia is technically based in Sweden 🇸🇪 but only makes chocolate for Norway 🇳🇴
The Smash is actually chocolate covered Bugles. Idk if you know what bugles are but they were more popular back in the day. They still sell them here and there but they not as popular.
They are pretty weird but highly addictive.. Lol
Oh yeah I think I remember bugles, don’t think I see them around here anymore unless I’m looking in the wrong places 😂 but yess they are like those but we just need ones with chocolate on them 🤤
In Norwegian it is brown cheese, brunost
4:29 - the bird is a Marabou stork, symbol of our largest chocolate company, Freia. Also the name of the biggest chocolate producer in Sweden, which is closely related to ours. I love that you actually broke the "fingers" off to eat one at a time, the proper way! We´ll get a hizzy fit up here when people try to take a bite out of the entire plate ;)
5:48 - My favourite type of chips!
If u melt brun ost you will get something called prim
The brown cheese must be use with waffels or white bread!
Hobby always bangs, 38 years in and I still get them 💥
Hey 👋🏻 thanks for watching! Oh my goodness it was so yummy 🤤
The bird on the chocolate looks like a flamingo yes, but its actually a Stork. Also glad you enjoyed my home country ^^
Awh thank you for this ☺️ & yess it’s a beautiful country, we will definitely be back 🥰 so much beauty, wonderful people & delicious food!
Thank you for watching 🥰
It's a stork actually.
To be exact, it´s a Marabou stork.
@@mimosa7070 Yup.
Just from a quick look at the whale sausage, it contains "only" 50 % whale. The rest is pork, pork tongue, salt, spices, pork protein, sugar, garlic etc.
A proper whale steak is 100 %.
If you dere Call that a kit kat one more time
Haha I didn’t call it a kitkat, I said it was like a kitkat 😜
I comming from Norvay❤❤😊
The brown cheese is not cheese really. It is produced by boiling the milk whey containing the milk sugar into a caramelized substance. It thickens and hardens when cooled. It has been made for centuries in Norway.
I am from Norway ❤❤❤ Norway snacks sooooooo gooooood❤❤👍💖😋🥔🇳🇴❤❤🇳🇴🍫🍭🍪
They are so delish 🤤
4:31 The bird is called The marabou stork (Leptoptilos crumenifer in latin)
Hey 👋🏻 thanks for letting me know ☺️
Smil means smile
Solo is like you say an orange soft drink that taste much like Fanta. A life hack, if you are into soft drinks, but don't want all the sugar ... and don't want to use a fortune on buying the stuff, go to a typical norwegian supermarket and buy a bottle of Fun Light with orange taste. Then poor a little of it in a glass and add carbonized water, either from bottles bought in the supermarket, or even better from one of those carboniser machines. That will taste just like Solo / Fanta and is sugar free.
Hey 👋🏻 thank you for watching & thank you for the tip ☺️
I are from Norway 😄❤️
Jeg også❤❤❤elsker norge😊
The bird on the chocolate is a Marabou stork. The Swedish sister company is actually called Marabou, but ironically does not have a Marabou stork as a logo on the chocolate.
That chocolate was so delish 🤤 & Oooh that’s cool to know, funny I remember the Marabou brand when we done the Swedish snack video, didn’t know they are a sister company.
Thanks for watching 🥰
Freia was many years before Marabou, so my guess is that Freia already used it, and they did not want to "copy" it. Marabou is also very good.
Marabou is better in my opinion.
@@adineatha9766 That is a matter of taste. I like both....
Marabou was founded by the same man(Johan Throne Holst) who founded Freia.
We actually meant to pick up some liquorice as we kept seeing it everywhere & realised it must be super popular. We don’t have the salty version of it over here 🤭
throw the smash in the fridge first and you'll have a 10!
The cheese that is’nt cheese is called Brunost in Norwegian❤
Youre suppost to putt the brown cheese on bread😅❤
Brown cheese with raspberry jam on toast is the best!!!
Im from norway, My favorite chip is sørlandschips
Im from norway :)
1:50 have it on toast with butter. or a slice of bread with butter then the brown cheese :)
best are def the smash. unresistable. fattens me up very quickly haha

I don't eat candy anymore. Just because I don't like sweets. But I used to. I have eaten a LOT of Smil! :)
The Smil are soooo good 🤤 we have something similar over here but the caramel & chocolate wouldn’t be as nice 🤤
The kviklunsj its like kitkat❤
Sørlands chips is best i eat it all the time.
I’m from NORWAY
I’m Norwegian and not giving smash a 10 kills me!
And tbh, there are too many Mink whales in the sea outside Norway - which is a problem for the fish (the eat a lot)
Funny we debated if it was maybe a touristy thing. But thanks for all the info, it’s good to know ☺️
Also thanks for watching 🙋🏽♀️
4:31 - 4:37 21:47 There is no flamingo logo on it, it's a picture of a stork.
Inside the kvikk lunsj they have written an norwegian classic fairy tale :)
Fun fact:
All Brits are as high as 24% Scandinavian, mostly of Norwegian decent due to the Norse settlers recent genetic study show.
Kvikk Lunsj menas quick lunch. Regularitet something to bring on trips to take a stripe as a quick lunsj
Smil is Smile, they’re meant to make you smile
if you tell a norwegian that a kvikk lunsj is a kitkat than they will get mad and kvikk lunsj is pronounst like quick lunch
Haha I soon realised this 🤭🤣
It is a stork on the kvik lunsj
and Mondelēz International owns Freia:)
