We spent the night here last January. Only Two rigs that we saw a ways from us. Quiet and pretty. We were (still are) ,newbies so didn’t go too far back.
Rick, I tried finding the agate hunting area in the past but unsuccessful. Do you have GPS coordinates you could share with me or directions from a reference point. I live outside of Kingman but familiar with the area down that way. Or from the billboard at the 14 day camp area what part of the mountain is best to search?
Wonder if you could drive a van out far enough to get to the base of the mountains? Not everyone is lucky enough to have a buggy. I understand why fires are prohibited, but that is the fun of getting off the road and boondocking. Have always enjoyed a night campfire and cooking meals over a fire. Too many years as a Boy Scout... lol. Thanks Russ for showing us another great place to get away and enjoy nature.
My parents used to live in wagon West on Highway 60 just a a little further down the road and it's got great RV Trails if you go back in the back of wagon West you did make a right and you can see what we call the Little Grand Canyon and if you go left you could take that pass up and over the mountains you can take it under I-10 and to the back it's absolutely fabulous area to do some ATV!! I wish I was there right now!
Thanks Russ...big wave, and what an area of beauty....We are watching. Don't forget to vote...Carolyn & Colin big wave...Hopefully the borders open soon...CDh
Hi Russ, we’re not going west this winter. Supposed to go to Florida, but with COVID probably staying home. If you come to the east coast next spring, hopefully we can meet. I live close to Asheville, and my son on the Outer banks. Hope to see you down the road.....
Russ was in a non-preferred, smaller section for bringing in larger trailers, 5th wheels and roads that get up close to the mountain. You need to still go a bit further west and as the road starts to descend, that's where all the turn offs are. There's a 2nd BLM kiosk that looks exactly like the one Russ stopped at - that's where you want to go.

I see on Google maps that at the base of Saddle mountain is the trail head for saddle mountain trail. So you can take that trail when you visit next time. Of course that would involve you doing some actual hiking. hehehe.
Hi Russ! I haven't made a comment for a while. Looks like you been racking miles on your Sprinter traversing the US through the summer. How's the Sprinter holding up. How do you rate it as a Nomad vehicle. Give us a review. Thanks for all the previous vlog. Take care and be safe.
No. Because in my other 14 day free camping offers don't pick my choice of vehicle stop or rest location. I prefer locations with karst exploration recreation and shade outside afterward. With no venomous reptiles. If it pleases me I'll do underground kayaking where the sun never shines. Feel free to turn over rocks at saddle mountain and go float your hopes.
How much of an issue is there with the snakes in that area? Are some seasons worse than others...gee seems like a long way to get medical help from there if you or you dog were to get bit?
Our PM is not the reason we aren't coming down there ... Covid-19 is the one and only reason. Russ stopped at the wrong spots in this video and is still further west for the more popular section. Mind you, the 2nd stop is a good spot for the buggy rides.
too hot still, maybe? and there are quite a few of us that don't like 4 wheelers. those people are disrespectful to others. they drove right through out camp!!!!! and later did wheelies right next to another camper. not out class dear.
I use to camp there a long time ago. There are a lot of snakes, both the one that crawl on their bellies and the 2 legged ones. Nice trail that goes to top. It used to be real dangerous. You can drive all the way from Phoenix to the saddles with out leaving black top roads. I have heard full automatic gun fire in this area. Just be careful and camp where you can't be seen from highway and you should be fine.
Different times, I guess ... I've stayed there multiple times over the past two years during fall, winter & spring - I've never seen any snakes, nor has anyone I spoke with there. Hiking in the washes, on the mountain sides and hiking on the flats; no snakes but perhaps the warmer days/nights of late spring to early fall bring them out. No issues with the two-legged kind either. As for the gun fire ... that still happens, right at the two spots Russ stopped at. I camped at the second spot and found the noise unbearable so shifted further west.

Your videos are addictive. I haven't seen these places in 25 to 30 years and never from the air. It's interesting how things have changed.
Awesome. I missed this one. Driven through there. Beautiful country. Love it!!!
I told you to go further before turning in, but you didn’t hear me. You can camp right at the base of the mountain. Fire agate all over the ground.
I will visit just for the agate! Thanks for the tip.

Very cool Russ 😎
Nice area, but so very very many flies from the nearby egg farm.
Yes, they can be very annoying at times.
Agreed.

What a paradise for four wheeling. You just need sunscreen, a hat, and lots of water.
I like that camera. It's like you're in an attraction.
👍never been to Brenda before nice
🙋♀️Hello Russ! Looks like plenty of room for some Snowbirds to visit & enjoy OFF-roading in thier ATV. I liked seeing Sadle Mountain. Interesting. 👍

Hey Russ, did you check your map? That area is a no fly zone for drones, within 5 miles of a airport. Be safe check your map.
At 15m 49s there looks to be some new prospecting trenches been dug.
Nice video! ☝
I wonder if my Wife’s Authentic Thai Food would sell good there? Would love to spend the winters in AZ and surrounding

Off-roading is big in Vegas and they have great areas. Maybe you can include it on your recon list. :)
Hi, I wanna stay overnight here, but I have a Toyota Yaris. I keep reading about the rocky roads. Will I be ok, or avoid this area, ty

Have you driven the hwy south of Prescott. Hwy 85
I wonder how many trucks stop out there to AVOID the Q truck stops ? TAKE CARE..

@David Griffin Not really a snake guy am from the Northeast...lol...but thanks for the reply:)
One of the Canadian UA-cam has posted videos about it.
Saddle Mountain known for fire agates
This is not the Mohave desert, its the Sonoran desert.
Canadians most likely are not coming this year because of Trudeau and covid. By the way, you are in the Sonoran desert.
True way. Better...
Okay, auto correct stinks! I meant to say Trudeau, grrrrr...
what! no saguaro cacti? camp elsewhere.
Our PM is not the reason we aren't coming down there ... Covid-19 is the one and only reason. Russ stopped at the wrong spots in this video and is still further west for the more popular section. Mind you, the 2nd stop is a good spot for the buggy rides.
Yep that's Sonoran Desert!
Many turn-in roads there.
Is FREE camping in the middle of a barren desert really a big deal?
I'm thinking along the same lines.
Wide open spaces is a big deal
too hot still, maybe? and there are quite a few of us that don't like 4 wheelers. those people are disrespectful to others. they drove right through out camp!!!!! and later did wheelies right next to another camper. not out class dear.
at least only warning for snakes...not all trying to hitch a ride!
Two wrong turns, but who is counting.
