두민 작가는 우리나라의 대표적인 극사실화 작가다. 그는 자신의 대표작 주사위 그림을 지속적으로 새롭게 발전시켜왔다. 이 작업을 처음 시작했을 때는 가만히 있는 주사위를 카지노 칩과 함께 그렸다. 이는 곧 공중에 던진 주사위로 바뀌었고 카지노 칩은 사라졌다. 이어 날아가는 주사위가 수면에 비친 모습을 그렸고, 나중에는 상하좌우 여러 방향으로 대칭 복제된 주사위를 그렸다. ‘VARIATION’ 시리즈에서 그는 대상과 그림자의 경계를 뒤집고 변주의 방식을 표현하며 작가 내면에서 일어나는 또 한 번의 작업에 대한 새로운 변주를 기꺼이 기쁘게 받아들이고자 하는 의지를 담아내고 있다.
Artist Domin is a representative hyper-realistic artist in Korea. He has continuously developed his representative work, dice paintings. When he first started this work, he drew a still dice with casino chips. This soon changed to a dice thrown into the air, and the casino chips disappeared. Then he drew the flying dice reflected on the water, and later he drew dice that were symmetrically replicated in various directions, up, down, left, and right. In the ‘VARIATION’ series, he reverses the boundaries between the subject and its shadow, expresses the method of variation, and willingly and joyfully accepts new variations of another work that occurs within the artist.
