I've loved IWC since they treated me with respect after a Rolex AD shrugged me off when I was 19. They, unlike the other, understood what money was and wanted it. I was happy to oblige and have had a great relationship of that sort with them since. That's a gorgeous piece.
I've been building a pretty good collection of wathes of the past decade or so, and reached a point where I can end up walking out of a shop with a new watch from an unplanned visit. I've been treated decent everywhere save for a local Rolex boutique. I was in town for a meeting, had an hour to spare, and as there was a Rolex shop down the road I decided that I'd burn some time there. From when I was buzzed in, I knew they had already decided that I was a waste of time. In fact, I walked over to see the Sky Deweller with the blue dial. It was in white gold, but I loved it. As I turned toward one of the employees I saw them look me up from head to toe and say something along the lines of "That one is a precious metal, is very expensive, and has a waiting list". Turns out that reply saved me from explaining to my wife why I had bought a ~20K while out trying to do my work.
@@MarcSherwood With the dip in perceived value of luxury goods among the fast fashion obsessed younger generations, these attitudes among watch dealers aren't going to fly for long. Like when Nico got stonewalled by Lange at the automotive event they were sponsoring because he didn't have an appointment. These brands can only trade on their names for so long. Sure, they can sell out now, but when the generations who estimate the price of the Amazon special costing more than the high class piece start to be the ones with the spending power, they're going to have to move different. These kids don't care as much about history or prestige.
IWC will be my first watch nice watch I buy for that reason, I was at a newly opened casino near where I live with an IWC store in it and stopped in there while at the casino I told the guy I was just looking and pretty much said no need to pay attention to me I won’t be buying anything and got back don’t be ridiculous anything you see you like and want to try on just let me know. The experience in an IWC store vs a Rolex store is night and day with how you’re treated
@@charlie1832 I was so close to buying the IWC Top Gun on a trip years ago. That is one that I feel "got away" from me. That and the AP Royal Oak in Vegas when it was only $15k ish.
Just unlucky I went to Rolex AD when I was 19, I been treated nicely and they put me on the wait list after 3 months I got my Bluesy

What can you tell us about the IWC Ceratanium? How durable is it? How does it compare to PVD, DLC, or straight ceramic? I’m looking for a black case watch. Thx!
Mine looks new and I wear it daily. The marketing says it is as durable as ceramic and as crack-resistant as titanium. I can only say that it is ultra stealthy, no one else will know you are wearing a patented material with a very high failure rate and difficult to produce. But you will. I found the strap to be lacking, and replaced it.
Can I join the 'BIG DRIVE' in my 10 year old black diesel Juke, lol. I have a white Casio negative dial watch that I've had about 3 months. I have to say Nico, it does take some keeping clean and white. Mine has a rubber strap and is waterproof to 100m so I take it in the bath and scrub it with a nail brush after a days gardening. I don't suppose you would consider that idea with an IWC watch, ha ha. I am looking forward to the road trip.............
There are multiple 24hr dials out there at a wide range of price points. It's mostly a pilots watch thing.
