    haha, enjoyed your short video. I actually worked in Jordan 77-81 and passed by there in September for 12 days to avoid expensive hotel quarantine in London as i live in Philippines last 26 years. I recognise many of these alleys and streets you walked down. In the square outside the amphitheater used to be the Philidelphia Hotel but it has been knocked down since my time there. It is unbelievable the changes as during my time there Amman was quite small with a population of 500k, Jordan 2,5m but now the country's population is 10.5m and the city over 4m. Only downtown, 1,2,3 circles and Rainbow Street are recognisabe these days to me.

    Assalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh Jason . The middle east is a beautiful and mesmerizing part of the world . I am looking forward for this series . Again an excellent vlog and I thank you for that/this . Your camera lens loves you and with a blessed hand for editing . What an excellent job you too . You capture what is most needed to showcase the country that you are in . You make the audience feel like they are together with you in that moment . Not everyone can do that nor do they have that touch to do it . You know Jason the food in the middle east taste better than anywhere else . That hummus looks phenomenally delicious . Fatima is lost loool . The mansaf looks delicious . Eating with your hands is essential in the middle east and also in India . Poor people did not have utensils so there hands was the utensils to eat with . Shukran Ya Jason . Please take care and be safe. May Allah continue to bless you and guide you and protect you and keep you safe .

    Good evening Jason! I have been watching your videos for years, starting with South East Asia, where I have traveled extensively in 2017, 2018 and 2019. You really captured the beauty of Amman in this video!
    When you showed the beauty through the windows inside that cafe on the hills, I had such a feeling of calm come over me, it was that beautiful. Kind of a combination of awe and that I can't wait to start traveling again.
    I have some questions for you, if I may:
    1. I'm 68, I always travel solo like yourself, and so being so very careful of not getting covid I'm mostly staying home. The only parties I've attended have been local ones outside where everyone is required to be vaccinated (though it's not checked). I have had two Pfizer shots, and am going for my booster in the next 10 days. But I'm still very concerning about continuing my dream of traveling again throughout Asia and the Middle East after retiring.
    Do you do any research to investigate how bad covid is spreading in any place before you visit?
    2. Part of experiencing and enjoying new cultures is through food so how are you able to be so brave to do so since everyone is unmasked when eating indoors?
    3. If you can share, have you gotten covid while traveling?
    4. How does it feel compared to before the pandemic, to have to wear a mask in most places? How about in places where it's so hot?
    5. Lastly, you said compared to other countries in the region, Jordan is very expensive and you asked a question of your viewers what locals think of the prices? I was also curious if any responses
    said it was because you were being charged tourist prices or were traveling in tourist areas?
    Thanks so much for your insight!
    Bob

    • @JasonBillamTravel
      @JasonBillamTravel  3 роки тому +2

      Hey Bob, delighted to hear you’ve been a follower over the long haul!
      I think once you’ve had your booster, go for it. You can’t be better protected than having three jabs - so there’s no reason to wait anymore. Despite the fact it’s still around at some point we’ve got to get on with living our lives and pursuing our dreams.
      When it comes to eating there’s always risk, not Covid but from general food poisoning etc. It’s all a part of the travel experience. If you get unlucky you just have to accept it. It’ll pass after a few days.
      I caught Covid on my way back from Mexico last year (I was unvaccinated at the time). I had a cough, headache and fever, but was fine after a week. I didn’t lose my taste or smell.
      The mask part fluctuates greatly. In some countries (Iraq and Egypt) barely anyone was wearing them. In others (Mexico) virtually everyone had one on. It just depends. It’s something you just have to grow accustomed to dealing with if you want to travel.
      Jordan is expansive. If you visit you’ll probably feel that. Not as pricey as Europe, but it’ll hit your wallet harder than a lot of other countries around the world. The more touristy the more expensive, generally.
      Hope that helps. Try not to worry too much about Covid. I think it’s going to fade into the background this year as people carry on living their lives. We have to learn how to live with it, and not in fear. If you don’t have any underlying health conditions, try not to let it dictate your life choices too greatly. Safe travels!

    • @magicbobNJ
      @magicbobNJ 3 роки тому +1

      @@JasonBillamTravel Hi Jason! So kind of you to send such a helpful reply!
      I was curious, how restricting a mask feels knowing how you could travel freely before, and how uncomfortable it is wearing it for hours in very hot climates? For me emotionally it feels like it just won't be the same as before.
      You said compared to other countries in the region, Jordan is very expensive and you asked a question of your viewers what locals think of the prices? Did you receive any responses and did anyone say you were being charged tourist prices or were traveling in tourist areas?
      Thanks!

    Actually, much of the area of that plaza in front of the amphitheater was once the location of the Philadelphia Hotel, which is where I stayed in June 1977 for a night before joining an archeological dig in Petra (and again in August for a couple of nights before flying to London). The front entrance to the hotel faced the amphitheater, where cars and taxis would deposit travelers. I stood transfixed, gazing at the amphitheater after my taxi ride, before turning reluctantly away to enter the hotel lobby. The hotel, by 1977, was a bit shabby after decades of use. I believe it was finally torn down in the mid-1980's. I had a wonderful summer in 1977: the Jordanians in Amman and Aqaba, and the Bedul in and around Petra were wonderful hosts. Back then, Petra was virtually untouched. All summer, we had just two tour groups of any size visit us on the dig site (15 or 20 persons each time). Days went by with no visitors, which was wonderful. No vendors, no ticky-tack curio shops, no tourist hotels in nearby Wadi Musa, no "park entrance" fees or requirements... just the ancient city, the Bedul, and the 20-odd persons on our dig. Several times, the Bedul invited us into their tents; they'd slaughter a goat, boil virtually all of it after cutting it into pieces, and serve it up on large round platters of flatbread with mounds of rice and sauce from the pot. We'd sit around the platter and talk and laugh and eat and watch the stars come out. Now, of course, it's a different scene. Glad I saw it back before it became a tourist hot spot.

    Great to hear the sounds of the Old Town again.
    Wages are really low. There is no Social safety net in Jordan. It barely recovered after the GFC and now 2 years of the pandemic the tourist workers have suffered. It is important for tourists to tip well, especially the tourist drivers.

I started travelling in the mid-90s by backpacking around India and I'm off to my 90th country later this week (Barbados). I would consider doing a vlog but I don't think anyone would understand my Black Country accent so I'll leave it to the master and I look forward to following your future travels. All the best.

      @@JasonBillamTravel Oh, I'm a Korean Muslim who converted to Islam in 2013, and I've always wanted to live in an Islamic country. And with the help of my Jordanian friends, I went to Jordan in 2016 to learn a Arabic and Islam and came back. The Jordanians welcomed a converted Korean Muslim from distant Korea, and I have only good memories of Jordan. 👍👍👍

    Hey Jason thanks for visiting our country.. Jordan offers much much more than the Citadel or Hashem restaurant or Petra.. there is just so much to take in.. as 7 civilizations passed its soil.. as for the economics unfortunately it's very bad at the moment and Jordan is very very expensive to us Jordanians as the salaries are very low... not mentioning the unemployment rate which almost hit 50% now... anyways happy u enjoyed ur stay here.. and hopefully you will discover more in future visits.

      @@nigaratazhiyeva2903 hi! Sure thing! In Amman you can visit the Jordanian museum, Qasr al-Abd (35 km outside of Amman) on the way to this place there's the cave of Jesus Christ, Qasr Almashta (it's actually near the airport) ... as to where to eat you have khashouqa (خاشوقة) it makes very yummy food, al-webde area, one of the oldest areas in Amman if you wanna eat in that area, there's Jordan Heritage Restaurant, it offers very authentic food in a modern way (it's an area full of cafes) for sweets there is Nafeesah (their sweets are sooo yummy, if you are curious about any kind you can ask to try it (and it's for free) if u are allergic to anything tell any place. These places are in Amman and its suburbs.. if you want more places just tell me

You can go to Wadie Rum that got the most spectacular rocks formations and the closest environments to Mars on earth visit the dead sea and get to the lowest point on earth visit the roman ruins in Jarash the most well preserved romen city outsid Italy visit the ancient churches in Madapa and see the oldest mosaic in all the world there is over 120.000 ancient sites in Jordan 120 register in UNICIFE as part of the world culture the ancient city of Petra is one of the moderns 7 wonders of the world it used to recive over 1.000.000 visitor every year before covid pandemic overall i hope you injoy this trip

    I'm in Amman right now visiting in-laws. I much prefer it in the summer but even in the winter it's not bad. The food is definitely good. I highly recommend Petra and Wadi Rum, though I've not been to either in the winter so I don't know how they'll be this time of year. Enjoy your travels though and stay safe.

    In general while some places are costly (similar to Europe or America), however you do always have a cheap and good quality option (cheaper than Europe or America). Yes the Jordanian currency is maybe one of the strongest in the world.
