    My wife and I both have this lens and really like it a lot, for all the reasons that you mentioned. It pretty much lives on my EM-5.
    I almost sold it to get the 12-200 but decided against doing that. Both the price and size difference wasn’t enough to justify switching for me. Thank you for a very good review of this lens.

      Thank you for your kind words Peter! This lens practically lives on my OMD EM1 I as well.

    I have this lens, too, although I haven't been keen on zoom lenses in the past. I do take it outside and the weather sealing is a great feature. Thanks for sharing your experience with it.

      Hi Robin - Thanks and completely agree with you. Prime lenses have something special beyond their bokeh capabilities. However the zoom range, weight and weather sealing make this a great choice for hiking!

    Love this lens for the same reasons as you stated; versatility, size & weight
    It`s perfect for just walking around taking pictures of everything from nature to architecture and abstract elements etc
    Mounted on the omd e-m5 m3, the creative possibilities are also excellent
    Have other camera systems which is also good and more expensive, but have to say, this olympus combination is close to perfect for my style of photography 👌🏼✨

      I also have the Nikon F and Z system, as well as the Fujifilm X-T2 and 18-135 WR, but prefer OMD body combo with this lens for hiking.

    I just picked up this lens, I'm excited to get out and shoot with it.
    Should be a nice daytime lens.

      @@dutchaperture I'll try to.
      It would be nice to talk for a few photo walks before I bring it to Paris with me.
      Though, I'm sure it'll do really well.

    Interesting commentary.
    Like you, I have the Olympus 75-300mm which is a lot of fun to use. But instead of the 14-150mm I have a (used) Lumix 14-140 F3.5-5.6. Very similar, quite sharp and also highly recommended. For a wider view, I can recommend the new Panasonic 9mm F 1.7 which is very small/light, and ideal in low light.

      Thank you for your comments! Very curious to try my hands at the Panasonic 9mm F 1.7 one day. Heard a lot of positve things about it.

    The fact that you’re able to zoom so far with a lens that small is impressive enough. Lowlight with a dated em1.1 is very impressive. Makes me want to consider this lens for my em1.3 as a walk about piece of kit. Great review!

      Thanks for your informative comment. I completely agree. This might be one of the best kept secrets from this lens!

    Hello. UA-cam showed your video for me to watch. I heard your remark about AF-MF switch - the more expensive Pro lenses have a mechanical clutch. For lenses such as this, I normally set to S-AF-MF - that means half press of the shutter button will perform S-AF but you can still rotate the focus ring to MF any time

    • @dutchaperture
      @dutchaperture  Рік тому +1

      Hi Ananda. Yes, really like and use this option on my Olympus 12-40 2.8 and Olympus 17 mm 1.8!

    Hi & thanks for the review of this lens, which I very recently bought new and is my new default lens. I watched your demos and wonder if the videos would focus better, if not perfectly, if you used an OM-1 rather than an OM-D? I guess I can find out for myself, but wondering if you have a POV. thx!!

    Thank you for mentioning Panasonic and Tamron lenses. Through many searches, you are the only place where I found mentioned other brands. I do have a question though: Would the Panasonic lens work well with Olympus EM5 iii camera?

    • @dutchaperture
      @dutchaperture  Рік тому

      Thank you for your kind words! Yes, M43 Panasonic lenses work on all Olympus M43 cameras with exchangeable lenses (like the M5 iii), except for the OIS functionality (Optical Image Stabilization in the lens).

    This lens was the reason that I bought an Olympus EM5 m2. It is weather resistant and none of the SONY lenses were in the equivalent 18-200 APS-C range. I still have my SONY-s and just bought an a6700 but the Olympus is the camera I take more often than not.

      There's the Tamron 18-300 which is weather sealed. Not to the same standards of m43, and bigger too, but I'll be comfortable taking it out even in a light rain with frequent wipe downs.

    • @gabithemagyar
      @gabithemagyar 11 місяців тому

      @@professionalpotato4764 The Tamron lens didn't exist yet when I got my Olympus EM5 m2. Sony has, in the past couple of years, released a few premium weather resistant APS-C lenses, but still has nothing like the variety of Olympus (now OM) PRO weather resistant lenses available. Don't get me wrong, I really like my SONY cameras too and have recently bought some fine, newer, Sony lenses (the 16-55 f2.8 G, the 15mm f1.4 G and the 10-20mm f4). I am also considering the 70-350 zoom but have not made up my mind yet.

    with how good the AI denoise is now in adobe camera raw low light shooting is much less of an issue than ever before. I know it still struggles in very dark scenes such as astrophotography but scenes with lots of mid tones it works very well. I've shot at iso 12,500 and the AI denoise removed so much noise you would think it was shot at iso200. Great video!

    For those who are considerting 1" superzoom, you can do better with M43, which are generally smaller, lighter, cheaper, and better PQ
