  • LaToya Jackson performs "Such A Wicked Love" during this 1989 Bob Hope television special. Filmed on location in Nassau, Bahamas. I captured this video from my own VHS-recorded copy of the broadcast from back in the day. :)

@@charlenedozier6172 She totally could've though. She looked like a supermodel and sang just as well as Janet. All she needed was a chance to learn some better choreography, and she would've been a better performer. Moreover, if she'd had the same producers and promotion that Janet got, she'd have been just as big of a hit.

People don't realize it's not just her voice. She actually has a unique voice like the other Jacksons. It's also the director, dancers, even the microphone. She needed better support. Hate to admit it but I think she was prettier than Janet

Yeah I kinda feel the industry just didn't want LaToya. All she needed was the right producers and the material.. It's like she was intentionally sabotaged and or held back you know what I mean. If you wanna argue she didn't have the best voice fine but neither did Paula Abdul and sister Janet was no Whitney. Far from. Full Force tried here. This wasn't a bad track but it's not a major hit. But even still Full Force didn't provide her with their best stuff like they did with Lisa Lisa and Samantha Fox.

@@jamesgonzo5673 Ummmmm no this is pretty good especially in that era & Latoya really has talent naturally despite not having an amazingly great singing voice (meaning on the level of someone like a whitney etc) but can sing to where her best can come out with the right producers, songwriting & arrangment, overall production/ timing, the right encouragement, & most importantly hard work etc she could've been as big as Michael and Janet & plus another factor was had she not married that first husband Jack whom had basically ruined her life & forced her to do so many hurtful things as far as the lies told & later it was said from herself and understood as to why she had did this not only to protect herself during that time BUT to protect her family especially Michael and Janet from what that man was capable of due to connections etc Latoya would've honestly been just as big/iconic as she's already legendary regardless.

Before janet blew up, I was loving me some Latoya, she was very likable back then for those that don’t know about her. ( Latoya janet and Randy used to do background for Michael’s early solo projects and Micheal featured Latoya in a couple of his videos(say, say, say & The way you make me feel) Micheal spoke highly of Latoya and she was and still is very attractive.

LUV Toya here! "Ur Gonna Get Rocked" the LP where this track originates should've been her "Thriller" or "Control" breakout. She looks sensational! While decidedly BiPolar (basically 1/2 the LPs production split between powerhouse 80s production teams: FullForce & S/Aitken/W) she sounded slick & polished w/either team i.e. VERSATILE. Therein may've lied the problem? We start off with SamFox & midway transform N2 Bananarama. Un42nately her record label wasn't sure which side 2 push? US wanted FF Europe leaned 2wards SAW. What could've been WinWin for every1 was Nstead mishandled & promoted poorly, thus a loss 4 all concerned. XXXpecially the fans who unknowingly left this feel good 80s GEM largely unheard😢

Sadly, this was the last time La Toya was allowed to actually try with her music career. She spent two years making this album with some of the biggest, freshest producers at the time-- and the songs would've been hits if her record company had promoted them (as proof, one of the tracks, "Trouble", was re-recorded by another artist and went on to become a hit). She stepped outside her comfort zone to adopt a very bold, sexy new look, made two music videos, and did some legit choreography. Another album or two with that momentum might've finally given her some success, but Jack Gordon had other plans. Her Startin Over album would be great if it were ever released, as the intended lead single Just Wanna Dance proved by reaching #13 on the Billboard chart, but who knows if that'll ever happen.

Sadly I think the music industry had Chosen its female Jackson star and that was Janet Jackson with her cross over album control in 1986 ! Janet was willing to work a million times harder than her ! Janet wasn’t a professional dancer but she decided to create a dance pop act which meant hundreds and hundreds of hours of practising those innovative choreography. Janet was also 10 years younger than Latoya so technically she had a much longer shelf life as an artist !! I think the biggest problem with Latoya Jackson after Janet’s 86 control album was that the public perception was that she was just copying Janet and Michael sound and look. She didn’t come across as an original artist/performer so sadly she never found an audience. I still love her though and I think there are some real jems hidden in her back catalogue.
