  • Nothing too exciting, just me talking about how I got started in forestry mulching.
    *I originally said we had 3800 hours on my Terex PT110, but it was actually 2800 hours. Sorry.
    This is what worked for me, but won't work for everyone.
    Thanks for watching.

    been watching your channel for about 6 months now, never had seen a forestry mulcher before, it is so cool, I am sure there is a whole lot of folks over there are glad you got started doing this, you make it look so easy and do a great job. never knew an over grown forest could go from jungle to park in a couple days, we have about 40 acres overgrown mess that could use a makeover....lol

    I hate to say it, but you got taken with that Terex. Oh yeah, it was more powerful than the Cat, but the true test of a machine is not how powerful it is, but how much maintenance it will need. Everyone I know who has a Cat CTL (3 people) is impressed with the quality and low maintenance. And it gets the job done in a timely manner. Better to have a slightly underpowered machine than a machine that needs major repair after only 3,000 hours or so. As you know, the ddown time can really affect your bottom line, and that’s the most important thing. It doesn’t pay to have to keep renting equipment when your machine is in the shop. After awhile you’re just keeping your head above water. You are also right about the importance of a dealer. A lot of dealers are your best friends when buying, but total strangers when you come to them with problems. My goddaughter’s husband in France owns a Cat/Kubota dealership with his father. His motto is that they stand behind their equipment and will always come out on service calls. They even come out for service calls for brands they don’t sell - the thinking being that when you build a relationship, the next machine purchased will be your brand. They also try to fit the machine to the customer. The wrong machine can become a liability to the customer’s business. He even sold a few mini-excavators by having my goddaughter demo them to show how easy it is to operate. I don’t know if they sold more on the quality of the machine or my goddaughter’s looks 😂. I loved this video. You communicated all your points clearly and laid out the rewards and pitfalls of the Forestry mulching business. I would recommend this video to anyone thinking about such a career move.

In the lawn care business most will be equipment use it for e years and t j.g en turn around and buy new. When mowers go for 10 to 15 thousands man you better be getting more then 3 years out of them. Both mower I bought are over12 years old both running strong and paid for many times over. I can fix 95% on one and 100% on the walk behind. Great video.

    Since you already have a Marshall Saw how about doing a side by side video showing each in action.
    Also I believe you take some logs to the mill already off each job site I assume and get some money back for them.
    Would Marshall Saw allow you to take more a get more money back?
    Using both sometimes would it save wear and tear on your Mulcher and Skid Steer
    Is the Marshall Saw easier on the Skid Steer
    Seems like less noise,vibration,fuel cost and environmentally more friendly.
    Still I understand a mulcher can do it all and a Marshall Saw can't

    • @UpstateBrushControl
      @UpstateBrushControl  5 років тому

      Maybe one day I can do a video of that. We do take logs to the mill only when we have to. It all depends on the job and if it will be a full load. I don't like grinding up good wood. I have the ASV to forestry mulch, not to run the tree saw. If there is something that needs to be cut we can usually cut it with the grinder or a chain saw a lot faster.
