    The first of every year I print an "I'm dead" paper for my wife. It has all of the information she will need to access any of my devices and instructions on how to collect my life insurance and pension. It gets updated every year and put in the safe deposit box at the bank.

    My now dead father told us previously about a word document he kept updated and stored on his PC, titled. “When I die”. It did not directly include sensitive data, but rather was a master list of references to key info, locations, files, key contact people, etc…. He had separately shared password info.

    Another item to include in your Legacy package. Also remember to have ID's and passwords for reward accounts like hotels, airlines, and credit cards. Use those points (gift cards) PRIOR to notifying the company of the death of a spouse. These accounts can hold thousands of dollars in value.

    • @susieq9186
      @susieq9186 2 місяці тому

      So.... we were going to use the points for gift cards, BUT American Express locked the account once we ordered and had to speak to the holder of the card in order to purchase the gift cards.
      It was no problem for us since the court appointed personal representative provided that document along with a death certificate. Once they received those document, they promptly processed the request for gift cards in the amount of $1,800.00. (If I was smart, I would of just cashed in the points and paid that amount on the credit card.)

    This is great information to make people aware of. I would also recommend the book " In Case You Get Hit By A Bus" by Abby Schniederman as it is a great resource about the digital and paper documentation to do now to make life easier for others later on! It covered a lot of things I had never even thought of, like in your video !

    I find it is best to go old school and have a hard copy with all of the pertinent information your loved ones may need after you are gone. I will add my iPhone passcode to the list. I try to update the document quarterly, but at a minimum annually. I have let the appropriate family members know where the documents are kept.

    Thank you Devon for sending this one across even I’ll never thought of this a legacy contract you think you know it all but then you realize that you know nobody would be able to get your information if they had to have it they would be stuck at a good chance. It would be wiped right out yes, thank you very much for sending this across even I never realize this and I’ve been through a lot of circumstances that I think I have it all patted down only to find out I don’t know. Thank you very much great program as always. God bless and protect long live the republic.

    Great video Devon. Thank you so much for sharing this. I looked at my Legacy Contact information and I still had my wife listed. She passed away in August of 2021. I have now updated it to make my attorney my Legacy Contact.

      Excellent. When I published this video, I knew it was such a departure from my normal content that it wouldn't do very well in the UA-cam algorithms. But, I kept thinking if it would help one viewer to catch this before it was too late it would be worth it.

    You can also add a second facial recognition to each other’s phone and have access without having to go the legacy route if you truly trust your spouse.

    As a tech I always tell people to back their stuff up, too. Death isn't the ONLY thing that can separate you from your data and photos. A crashed HDD. 3 catastrophic earthquakes in ONE SINGLE DAY followed by 500+ aftershocks that same day (not that I would know anything about this personally, mind you...)... but yes, back stuff up too... ***So many times I failed to listen to my own advice. I only had JUST backed my info up a few days before those earthquakes, and I was able to save over 90% of my data....

    From what I researched for setting things up on Android it's REDICULOUS!🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️ You have to go through Google and set up an Inactive account and it basically won't see it as Inactive unless no activity for 6 months. So HOW can you access something that hasn't been Inactive for 6 months? Best thing I can say for Android people is email to the trusted family member your password (or pattern) for your phone AS WELL AS other devices (tablets, laptops, computer, ect.).

    Hey, both my wife and I have the same password. That definitely eliminates any issues, we think. I mean, if you can't trust your partner of 45 years, who can you trust?

    • @DevinCarroll
      @DevinCarroll  2 місяці тому +1

      I have the same thing at my house. But, my wife does have the habit of changing passwords when she can't remember them and forgetting to update our password log.

    Or... You could just tell your partner the password. Or write down important passwords and keep them in the back of your safe or in a safety deposit box. Or use an encrypted thumb drive and save them in a text document... There are so many better options that work for all accounts rather than just your iphone. And realistically, that iphone and the photos on it should be the least of your worries if you also don't know your bank login or even what bills you need to be paying.

    Another thing to remember is that many times we set up our phone as the 2nd factor in 2-factor authentication of our accounts. My wife knows the passcode to get into my phone but I told her that if anything happens to me, don't get rid of my phone, at least not immediately. She will need it until she can change the 2FA settings.

    • @DevinCarroll

      True! Can't tell you how many times I've needed someone's phone to help their widow(er) get logged into an important account.

    I'm surprised that Apple does it was a court order. It can't be that hard to get a court order. It just can't be. How are you a lawyer for 40 bucks and he can probably do it. So what if he charges you $100. It can't possibly be that hard.

  • @notusedexer
    @notusedexer 2 місяці тому

    This is just the tip of the iceberg. Somebody needs access to all your passwords and everything you have but it needs to be secured in an encrypted vault that only you and him can memorize the password. It just needs to be done. And never tell the police about this.

  • @Toomanydays
    @Toomanydays 2 місяці тому

    This sounds silly to me. Just give someone you trust all your information even if it's a lawyer you hire. Put it on an encrypted flash drive. Put it on several encrypted flash drives. Put lots of information like how you want your funeral to be in your last wishes and all your encrypted important information nobody knows. And then damn well make sure you have a good password but one that you can share with a trusted friend.
