    A relative on my dad's side took accutane and then developed T1 diabetes. They blamed accutane. But 3 other relatives on his side also developed T1D without taking accutane. And so did I. Clearly it's genetic and not caused by accutane. You can see how these things lead to misconceptions.

    • @MrDillon45
      @MrDillon45 Рік тому +3

      I agree. I heard horror stories so much that I almost didn’t get on it and so far, I’ve had dry lips and dry inside of my nose and that’s the absolute extent of my side effects. I know it effects people differently but I’ve talked to about 10 people who’ve taken it and they said the same as me. They’re all like it’s completely worth it in the long run.

    • @ShintyShinto
      @ShintyShinto Рік тому

      @@OliverJazzz Not to play armchair doctor, but no studies have found isotretinoin to have a causative association with T1.
      "T1 is genetic, without the genetic markers you don't get the disease[...] What you're suggesting, is that isotretinoin triggers the necessary rogue immune attack on the pancreatic endocrine beta cells, and that the gut microbiome at the time was at a low condition - meaning it was the “trigger”; it can NOT be the cause, which is genetic. But if isotretinoin DID initiate the disease response… it does NOT mean you wouldn’t have still developed T1; there are MANY environmental triggers of T1; if one doesn’t get you today… another may well trigger the disease tomorrow[...] But no research to date (and there’s been quite a bit) has found a causative relationship for isotretinoin triggering T1."

    Im 42 years old and strugle with back acne at 42! While effective, this drug is serious business and side effects are not to be ignored, esp when it comes to all over joint and muscle pain and suicude and depression. I've experienced both. I did not realize some of the ultra serious effects, I thought it was just me because I normally do adjust pretty well to medications. I have been on this medication pretty regularly, over 2 years. Although currently a 3 day a week regime but at this point im backing down.

      @ravenclawsden2103 Yes, I chose to go on the lowest dose 10mg & I take it every other day. It'll take longer to reach the goal dose, but I don't have severe dry skin, blurred vision, or depression.

      @chetana8368 My skin actually started clearing before I got on the Accutane, but I took it as a precaution since I never had acne before this, I was 41 when I had my terrible outbreak that lasted for months until I started praying. It also left scarring. Hindsight, I realized I was consuming too much soy. Anyway, my suggestion is experimenting with the dosage. Pay attention to the side effects you're experiencing & be vocal with your dermatologist. For me, 20mg cause severe dry skin to the point my feet felt like sand paper & my lips were peeling & tearing daily. I also would have blurred vision on top of what I naturally experience without wearing rx glasses. So, I went online & saw some remedies. On my own, I started taking the 20mg every other day, but I was still having the dry skin & lips. She lowered me to 10mg, oh I also was having increased migraines with the 20mg, when it lowered, I stuck with the every other day & noticed the side effects subsided. I let my dermatologist know & she fixed my rx to reflect how I am taking my pills.

    After 2 courses of roaccutane as a youth it finally cleared my acne after trying all the usual creams and tablets initially prescribed by my doctor. Roaccutane is the last resort but definitely effective! I can now be prone to dry and flaky skin and have to moisturise sometimes twice a day but it’s only the area where I had the acne that suffers this. Change in weather seams to cause particular dryness where I can struggle to prevent flaking and sometimes a little soreness. Sun exposure and sunbed usage helps my skin tremendously.
    All in all the benefits far outweigh the side effects in my personal experience and I would 100% recommend anyone to use this medication to address their acne!

Idk the mechanisms too in detail so don’t quote me on it but essentially how Accutane works is that it is an extremely toxic substance that causes cell death of the oil glands on your face which decreases oil production and so acne as well but the cell death occurs in other places of your body as well; ex. Your intestinal linings which is why a common side effect is stomach/GI issues. It’s just overloading your body with a toxic substance that kills the right cells for eliminating acne but also damages other cell/tissues in process.

      Not in my case. I'm on month 6 for accutane and my periods are still normal and lasts 7 or 8 days. Only side effect for me was dry lip and headaches. I suffered from huge painful cystic acne and I can tell you that I regret not taking accutane earlier because I'm left with alot of scarring. Truly worth it!

      @@Sysaha The risks that come with it are just not worth it. I took it for four months and now I have vision problems, joint pain, digestive issues, and my immune system got weak. It's true that most people will likely be ok, which is why I decided to take it, but I never knew that I would be that small minority of people who experience the serious effects of the drug. There are plenty of safe ways to clear your skin but taking such a drug is not worth the risks just for clear skin. There's a reason why you have to sign an agreement before being prescribed accutane. It is simply not worth the risks. You just never know that you may fall into the small percentage of people who experience the real terrible effects of it. Dermatologists only recommend it since they make bank off of prescribing accutane. Even after you stop taking the drug, there still is a chance of you developing some serious health issue. Also while taking accutane, I would get sick very easily, bruise easily, and I also got an infection from a simple scrape. Trust me, avoid accutane at all costs. It was literally originally made for cancer patients and the clear skin happened to come with it which is why it's now used for acne. It is not a miracle drug. Try anything else to clear your skin, but AVOID ACCUTANE

      hairloss is one of the more uncommon side effects, but if you keep your hair healthy and well hydrated you won't experience hair loss. accutane dries out the hair since it reduces oil glands (therefore causing breakage and eventually hairloss), so you should use moisturizing hair products or no hair products at all (the hair produces its own oils to keep it hydrated)

      DO NOT get him on this drug, have him fix his nutrition by avoiding carbs and sugars and processed foods, he should eat veggies fruits and lots of meat and fish, he needs to exercise maybe weight lifting but nothing extreme just recreational.
      Accutane WILL affect your son's growth and his entire life down the way
