  • We spent the day riding Brown Mountain OHV in North Carolina on a couple of 2020 YZ125x's. It was the first cool day I can remember riding in awhile, at a nice 58 degrees to start.
If you are looking at the YZ125X, you will see it can pretty much do it all. It has no problem "lugging" up technical sections, and is a blast in the fast twisty single track. I'm sure a big bore two-stroke would chug right up much of this with a bit more ease, but what fun is that?
This segment shows various parts of trails 1A as well as 2 leading up to a nice lookout in a giant boulder section. 1A is mostly intermediate skill level, with 2 being closer to expert ability with many technical rock climbs and single track through some fun woods sections. If you are new to riding, stick to riding trails 1 and 8. Pick up a trail guide at one of the local vendors selling OHV passes, and do your research before taking the challenge. You can get in way over your head in a hurry at Brown!

Looking at YZ125X. I appreciate your videos. Good stuff, very informative on what that bike is capable of.

Thanks, and glad you like them! I'm impressed every ride, as I was worried a 125 wouldn't have the grunt I needed. I have about 35 hours on it now, and looking forward to many more!

Love the camera angles in your vids. Is that just a regular GoPro helmet mount?

Is that trail rated intermediate or difficult? Rt now my son is riding a kx85 and the Torque is the issue with some of the climbs at Brown mountain, looking to get him either a KTM 150 or crf150r instead

Back in the 90's when my brothers and friends rode Brown Mt it was goat trails and crazy steep hill climbs. Anybody remember WoundedKnee and The Rock Garden?

Great video - thanks for sharing. My 14 year old son has a 2021 YZ125X, and I'm struggling to clean up the jetting. Did you do a JD Jetting kit / Mikuni TMX fix?

Thanks for the compliment Kevin. I didn't hear great things about the JD jetting kit, so experimented with OEM jetting. I ride anywhere from 1000' - 4000' typically in Southeast heat and humidity. Ended up with a 32.5 pilot, 430 main, and 43-75 needle second clip, and switched to a hotter BR8 spark plug. The pilot and needle change seemed to be the big things clearing up the low end. I also replaced the TMX jet block gasket with a JD kit as they are typically bad from the get go. I switched from Yamalube mix at 32:1, and am running Amsoil Interceptor 32:1 now which definitely helped. They are definitely setup super rich from factory, so it took some tinkering but she runs great now! I haven't been back out since the cold weather has hit here, so may be able to go to a 35 pilot. Hope this helps!

@@BryanStarks Thank you, Bryan! Your feedback is super helpful since we ride at similar elevations here in Northern California. We have less humidity, and generally mild temps, but your input should help me get close to establishing a jetting baseline. Also, I have the JD jet block gasket kit on order, and will start with that, along with checking the float height. So far, I've only dropped the stock needle one clip position, and swapped the stock 40 pilot jet for a 37.5. However, I ended up putting the needle back to the stock clip position since it oddly caused a lean bog. I'm running it on Motorex 2T @ 40:1, and the bike has an FMF Turbine Core 2 sparky on it. No splooge with the stock muffler, but tons of splooge with the Turbine Core. Go figure. Anyway, this is an awesome bike, and it will only get better once dialed in. Thanks again for your reply!

I have a KDX220 (new to the enduro scene, rode utility 4 wheeler majority of my life, primarily on Brown Mountain). Would you be interested in riding one day next week?

You apparently ride even slower. Where's your content? Checked your channel it was empty.
