  • If you have a plane you can rescue a dog! Dog rescue is an awesome thing to do and Pilots and Paws is a wonderful organization to do it for. This is a dog rescue we did a few days ago and the process was pretty straight forward. Go to pilotsandpaws.org, set up an account and select a trip you can do. There are trips all throughout the United States and there are 100's of dogs that need to be rescued and taken to their new homes.
I found a request for a little lab named Cory to be taken from Fort Lauderdale to Tallahassee. I split the trip with another pilot Randy Hock. Randy, in an RV 9, met me 1/2 way at Williston and took Cory the rest of the way to his new home.
Cory couldn't have been a better dog passenger. He slept most of the way. This is something that is an awesome thing to do and is tax deductible.
Have you always wanted to learn how to fly but now you are over 50? Get out there and start and learn! There are so many people in there 50's and 60's who are just starting to fly so what are you waiting for?

Great video - I’ve been flying for PNP for years and sometimes you get a great dog like Corey and sometimes you get good dogs that are coming from bad situations. PNP has partnership with PetMate so check out options for getting a couple different sized crates that you can configure to fit in your plane. Unfortunately in my 182 and I assume your 177 the seats don’t come out easily, my old Archer I could pull seats easily and fit 6-7 crates. Best to get some sort of seat cover to protect your interior. I love your channel it’s great to give examples of GA to the public that don’t perpetuate the “rich guy heading out for the $100 hamburger”. PNP allows all of us to do good needed work - literally saving dogs lives and expand our flying to airports we likely would have never visited. Dog rescue folks desperately struggle everyday to create a chain of drivers to move dogs a few hundred miles. We are blessed to be able to do most of those legs in 1 trip, while improving our flying skills, meeting nice people and saving dogs. Keep up the great work on your channel and thank you for using your platform to get the word out about pilots n paws.

Thanks so much for the kind words! Yeah for me right now I’m not too concerned about the interior of my plane as I’m going to redo it around February or March and it is a pain to get the seeds out but we’ll see hopefully my luck will hold out and I’ll get good dogs! Thanks for watching the channel!

I will not fly a dog that is not in a crate, I would rather not get an unannounced co-pilot. I got a crate via PNP but realized that the crates they use are the solid plastic type that only split in half. What I did was post on the facebook page for my town asking for various sized wire dog crates that FOLD DOWN explaining what I was using them for along with a couple of pictures. Within hours I had offers for more crates than I could use. PNP did however sent me some leashes, collars, harnesses etc which do come in handy.
Also you can apply for a compassion flight ID for use when doing the PNP missions. Fly safe and enjoy the dog rescues.

For larger dogs I don't crate, I have a tether which connects to the seatbelt. Long enough to allow movement in the back seat, short enough to keep the pup from coming up front, and no great escapes 🙃

Looked like an RV. I'd really like to have an RV10. Looks like a Cirrus but faster and cheaper.

I loved how he was cocking his head one way and then the other just before the landing. Great job! Great passenger he was too.
After thinking about it for a bit I have a question. Did this flight require you to have your commercial certificate or was it considered just a fun personal flight?

It was a fun personal flight and he was talking his head back-and-forth from the stall warning indicator when I was landing it was a real surprise to see that. Thanks for watching!

I do Pilots N Paws flights in my Cardinal as well. I had my mechanic create a separate W&B with the rear seat out so I can haul larger dogs in crates. Also curious why you didn’t use flaps on takeoff.

Tried 3 different browsers and cannot connect to pilotsandpaws.org. Security issues gets them blocked with all my browsers... I enjoyed this story though. Dogs are my favorite people.

Haha I'm amazed of how well the puppy behaved. I'd be afraid of the dog panicking and making it difficult to operate the airplane.
