The sheer physical strength of Janette never ceases to impress me. Amazing dancer!!
You can tell Janette knows her salsa. She always gets the best out of her men when they dance a salsa. Pity she never got to show us what Peter Andre and Melvin Odoom could do with one! This is fantastic and, in my opinion, was undermarked purely because of the slight mistake with the last lift. Everything else was PERFECTION!
She was a trained salsa dancer when she appeared on the US version of SYTYCD, so it makes sense that she'd be the best at that type of choreography
That's because shes a cuban from miami. Its literally in her DNA to salsa.
Shame she uses the same choreography over and over again.

And this is why I miss Janette as a pro x she brought so much energy to the dance floor x My absolute fave Strictly pro and I especially miss there being a great quality salsa each season x
Not exactly original with her choreoraphy, though. This routine contains all the same stunts as she did with previous partners. Lazy.

To be fair, they have to learn like 20 different songs in a variety of languages to sing live in just a few days 🤷♂️😂
This was an extremely fast version so don’t blame it on him having to learn many different songs at a time or not knowing the lyrics bc the way this one is there was no way he could’ve kept up whether he knew it or not

Janette's skill consistently takes my breath away. I dunno where someone so tiny pulls all that strength from but she is just unbelievable. Love it.
Salsa is her specialty. That's how she was billed on So You Think You Can Dance when she first appeared there years ago.
Ahh I didn't realise she was on SYTYCD, my bad. Funny I always thought from watching her on Strictly that her training was more balletic, maybe it's her athleticism. Good to know, thanks :)

@@kirsty6005 Her specialty was billed as Salsa on SYTYCD, but she's actually cross-trained in ballroom. I always thought she reminded me of a younger Cheryl Burke when I first saw her on SYTYCD.
After seeing how terrific the rest of it was...wishing they'd left that last lift out, but maybe it went great in rehearsal.
What a lovely dancer with v.good posture & musical rithym too & has done so well in his other dances, so what if his last lift was not as good as previous ones in this dance:-remember Robin Cousins in olympics he fell down on the ice but he still won gold! shall miss Aston's dance routines, honestly don't know why judges voted him out:- cos he was the better dancer.

This was the best salsa number in the Strictly history. Epic.
That lift sequence is such an euphoric moment that makes me want to rewind and watch it again. And she survived the lift at the end which is always a good thing :D My favourite dance of the evening. Alexandra was excellent, too, and technically better, but this feels somehow warmer.
Very spectacular! they make a great dance partnership. I can't wait for the following weeks. He is setting his level to high for the beginning of the program.

Aston danced this salsa amazingly good hip actions and lifts were risky but they pulled them off 8/10

Love this song and I was hoping a couple would be dancing "Despacito" this year. My dream came through. Loved it.
Echoes of Jake Wood's salsa certainly but plenty of other things to admire. He made the lifts look easy and his confidence makes it look like he's being doing this all his life.Immediate front runner,he looks equally happy in both styles. The sky's the limit really for this pair.

Aston was amazing! Totally nailed it, the lift sequence at the beginning was spectacular and I didn't even see the issue at the end - not worth mentioning really due to the earlier complexity

Ffion White he's never had dance training though, he's just got great musicality. Technically he's at no more of an advantage than the other celebrities.
Ffion White there are so many people on the show this year who have danced at some point in their lives. Debbie McGee had ballet training yet I haven't seen anyone say she's at an advantage. I personally don't think we should complain just because someone has musicality and can dance, no one goes in if they're considered professionals, some people just get it better than others.
Alesha Dixon judged on Strictly and she never had professional training nor was she seen to have an advantage over the other celebrities when she was a contestant on the show.
Ffion White Understandable, I personally enjoy watching those who you know will get far as I like to see how they try to raise an already high bar. I like the contrast between the brilliant dancers and the questionable dancers, but I guess we all have opinions
I agree Ashton is very good for so early, but the shows premise is teaching celebrity to dance Ballroom and Latin from scratch which Ashton doesn't have experience of,
He hasn't had any formal dance training, everything is self taught which can also be a hinderance.
For instance his sickle feet that Shirley has now mentioned twice, if he was taught professionally that would have been picked up on.
He may have musicality and rhythm but we shall have to see if Janette can knock the hip hop, street, boy band swagger out of the latin dances, which she wasn't able to with Peter Andre.
They have impressed me so far, as have some others

Amazing dance this, they really captured the fun, carnival-esque essence of the salsa! It was a 9 from me. But whilst I am here and reading down the rest of the comments, there is something I have to rant about:
It's getting so boring reading year after year people moaning about "ringers" (I hate that phrase. Call them a cheat or with an unfair advantage if you really must negative Nancies of social media, but ringers just makes them sound like something rude) or people that are popstars, stage actors etc doing Strictly and demanding they be burned at the stake for daring to be quite good at it. As Zoë Ball quite rightly pointed out on It Takes Two this week, I don't ever recall JLS doing a foxtrot to 'Beat Again' (now there's an image. I digress).
Don't get me wrong I love when the show has funny dancers like Russell Grant, John Sargeant or Ed Balls. But if the show was full of only dances like that it'd be boring. Same as if it'd be boring if it was full of people that could do it well. The beauty of Strictly is it's all about a variety and balance and that's what make it the show it is and why I love watching it. I accept every one will have their favourites etc because that's the nature of the beast with this kind of show but those whinging about the above need to get a grip!

extremely extremely proud of him. he had quite a tricky routine and was fast (that was just in week 2), so he can improve on some of the minor parts of his technical. he did fantastic & it was an amazing routine👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
