Our tiny town has an ordinance for 6' but I spoke with our city clerk and showed her your video... she said they might be willing to cut us a deal for 7-7.5'. Thanks man!
This is exactly what I needed to know when I searched for tall fencing. I have the exact type of neighbor that you had and I will be putting up a fence like yours. Thanks for sharing!
Im getting into the same situation exactly...there is a privacy fence on her property but its getting old and her hellion and friends like to hang on it...she has the worst looking house on my street..I'm done with her..Im waiting for her fence to fall on my property
Oh man. We bought 5 acres and our neighboring ranch to the left had junk tractors and cars at the farm fencing. I offered to even haul out the junk myself. Well... that didnt work and they dont love us. So this video is perfect, lol
Great fence man. We have the same issue but our neighbors house is 20 feet from ours and we have side by side driveways in between! We spent 8 grand putting up 90 feet between the driveways, then we did 50 more feet ourselves to finish it in the back. Now we are putting 2 ft extentions up. And we still might move. Ha
Very good information. I have struggled with pressure treated lumber for years. It inevitably shrinks and warps, but I believe it’s designed for some shrinkage. Like the idea of laminating the posts. Put in 4x4s and they warp. Wish I’d of known about that.
I'm doing an 8' tall for sure. Why 3 2x6s for a post instead of one 6x6 which is actually a bit bigger? Cost? This was a very helpful video. Thank you!
I did the 3 2x6 because that’s what the Amish did when building my building. It was less money too but that wasn’t a big factor. Just make sure the curves aren’t all aligned, stack them / glue them/ screw them so if board 1 curves one way the middle board should be opposite and the top opposite from the middle
I was in target yesterday watching my wife look at dinner plates for what felt like a really long time....then it hit me, get rid of star bucks and put in a sports bar. then she can stare at dinner plates as long as she wants.
Our fence heigh code is 6 feet but I put mine up a couple inches higher and then along the fence line I put retaining wall blocks under the fence to keep any animals from going under the fence and to give me more height.
This is so me! I just put up an 8 ft fence and left the other side facing them. I was going to put up a 10 ft fence, but the county would only approve 8 ft. 😅😅
Finally a video that I can send my wife so she will understand the 6’ high issue. Me @ 6.5 and we (I) do not want to see my neighbors plus we have a dog that can easily jump 6’.
Good job I just wonder if you needed the concret could you just pack gravel maybe, I heard the concrete may make the wood rot sooner? It is an impressive wall. My neighbor just had a 2 story fire in the back yard with a tree on fire. He just has different ideas. I had to call the fire department right next to the forest sparks blooms as tall as the old growth forest.
That’s a good point. When the Amish built our building they backfilled with rock on all posts. I’ve heard that too about rot so I guess time will tell. For me the people who were complete garbage moved out so it’s all good now.
I Think In The End Certainly Justifies The END. NOTHING Is MORE Valuable To Ones OWN Happiness & Healthy Mental Health As A Sense Of Privacy. WONDERFUL Video & Very Professionally Done. As A 2nd Alternative Version For A Good Fence Is To Go With The Composite Floor Decking In A Horizonal Fashion. Yes They Are Expensive As HELL BUT The Longevity & The Wonderful Array Of Colors. Defiantly Would Hold Up To Cold Weather & Hot. Easy To Clean. Rot Proof As Well. Beautiful Project You Should Be Commended. Have you Ever Thought Of A Nice Dark Cherry Stain Would Look Sharp.
They can say Menard's wood sucks, which it does not, they are the only big Hard Ware store that even has their own wood mill, now Lowe's lumber is not all that great as far as fencing because they don't have much to choose from.. I can't believe the prices of lumber, a 2x4x8 treated use to be 2.47 a piece...dang...thanks for the video

Nice fence for a diy bossman 👍🏽 did they not carry 4x4 post ? Here in texas we usually ise metal post , and all cedar material so it can last longer , if you’re going to spend that extra money on a 8’ fence might as well make it a board on board fence and you’ll get more privacy , since a side by side fence tends to have gaps in between each pickets through out time
They have 4x4 but I tried to emulate what the Amish did when they built my building. Since I don’t know what I’m doing I go overboard on everything for fear of being cheap or um well I don’t know why I go overboard on everything lol
I'm renting a place we have been in 13 years. Guy next door is cronic drunk and in and out of prison. They finally put a tall fence between us to stop when he throws things over at the house. We are finally buying. Pray we get Good neighbors this time but will do a 6 ft fence.
I have the worst neighbor you can imagine. She has zero respect for the people around her. She recently had a tree removed, which was fine, not a problem, the problem was blowing all the sawdust all over our vehicles one vehicle being a new dodge challenger T/A with matte black hood roof and truck. The bar and chain oil from chainsaw was on the sawdust and peppered the matte black with oil stains. We washed the car 6 times, still cant get it off. Everytime she uses her leaf blower in the fall she blows her leaves in our direction, out into the street and across the street to neighbors. Turns the street into mud I have to drive through to get to my driveway. I build a set of steps going from the driveway to my front door with 6x6s and pavers, and put in a 6x6 pole for a basketball hoop. I'm outside staining the steps and Pole for the hoop, she busted her ass to get out that leaf blower and cover it in dust. The next day she has a pole installed for a basketball hoop. Everytime I clean her leaves out of road before work, I come home, theres a pile of leaves in the road again. I've paid for gravel for the road 2 times out of my own pocket. She put up flood lights on the side of her house that shine directly through my windows. Everything she does is for spite. I'm sick of this. The city is retarded they do nothing. I'm building a 10ft tall fence, and installing stadium lights, Ill light her up like the surface of the sun. I dont know what her problem is, Envy, jealousy, who knows? Weve delt with this for 3 years and i finally said something after the saw dust. Nows shes telling all the neighbors what an awful person I am. If thats makes me the monster so be it. One thing I do know, she'll get back it all back x10 from here on out. That's not a threat, thats a promise.
Had the greatest neighbor ever next door for 8 years. Seven months ago he died, and now I'm stuck with his widow who is an absolute nightmare. Completely out to lunch 90% of the time. After her dogs killed my chickens for the second time in 6 months, I am done with her. And what kills me is I've been nothing but neighborly to this witch since her husband died, and she repays me by killing all of my animals. What's worse is I have to look at her dogs running up and down the fence line happy as hell and full of life while all of my animals are dead. Anyway, this brings me to your video. What did you dig those post holes with?
That's overkill, 6' high is dueable I don't have any home that sit above mine it's just traffic that goes back n forth to the rear of my house tired of strangers looking in over my place privacy is my thing if I had the money I would done whole property that's almost acre long but it's all bout cost.

The money you “saved” took 4 weeks longer than a professional and you get no warranty?! It’s kinda hard to admit that your first time doing something is not gonna be anywhere near a qualified professional, you got big box materials, the pro doesn’t use big box store. So other than quality, warranty and time it takes to complete, you can convince yourself you saved…..but in the real world, just because you made a video (filming editing) more time/labor diy a project….doesn’t mean anything to anyone who has any bit of knowledge and integrity! This video was great btw, nice work! And you never claimed the labor was free, so you’re better than most! Cheers!

Great video!, looking to build a 8ft tall fence this spring for my back fence. Did you need to get a permit for your fence? I am going to have to.
Where I live I did not need a permit. The jerk who used to live next door moved out. Good guys win!
If you have any other questions let me know and I will post another video answering them

Sorry you are going through that
Do u have a video on how you use Google maps to measure your fence?
I don’t but that’s a good idea. I will record a UA-cam short and share that later this week. Thanks for the comment
4 feet seems deep even for 8 ft tall. wonder how deep I should go for 8 ft tall here in central indiana?
Check your frost line
Let's not forget about the $360.00 in 11% rebate. I see you put the ugly side toward the neighbors, lol
Yep, the route that I'm lean towards. I'll have to see what our county permits. 👍🏽🤠 08/16/24
In my opinion doesn’t work
Cool
Thx for the video 👍💥

I think your old neighbors moved in next to us 😢😂
tell me about it!!
We ended up having to mill our own lumber for a fence, we have nightmare neighbors and are just done with it too.
mill your own sounds like more than a days work :)
@@WoodwardAcres actually about a month and 5 chains for the saw.
I thought the finished side had to face away from the house?
Traditionally that would be true, but I made an exception

Good job, it looks great. Thanks!
I'm looking to build a 150-200 ft linear, 6 ft high fence.
Good luck!
Are you worried about gusting winds? Is it high maintenance?
So far no maintenance and it has survived a derecho. That was 45 min of 100mph of straight line winds.
@@WoodwardAcres thanks!
Where did you buy the fence panels??
Clearly you didn’t watch his video.
I was always under the impression the finish side faces the neighbors. How did you get away with that?
My neighbor was a piece of garbage when I put this fence up. All rules about fences had expired so you can do what you want here.
@@WoodwardAcres I guess if your out of city limits it don't matter. Looks good..

I just used google maps to get an estimate but roughly 100 feet
