    I see value change in a color as another color, that really changed everything for me. Thanks

    This is a great
    Loving the color schemes.
    I tend to go completely ballistics on detail people will tell me why that looks just like a photograph that's not exactly what I'm shooting for.
    Like sergeant I just Love
    the lighting and his painting.
    And some of the simple brush strokes.
    So thank you so much for your videos .

    Thanks again Phil. Yet another very useful teaching video. I am going to try a small study today with a split complementary colour scheme. I am working on “not matching the photo”….which I did yesterday and was disappointed in the result. 😅

    Great job explaining. One thing I'm wondering tho...how did you decide which two I compliments to start with?

      Watched it again...lol. Sooo, u picked violet first...because of the dominant shadow color in the photo??? 😃

      Thanks Teresa, I was trying to pick a combination that gives me a different set up colors than whats in the photo. That way I'm not just copying the colors in the photo.

    Excellent information here Phil. I have been planning around with color schemes. In your video here you mentioned Dioxazine purple or mauve from Winsor and Newton, but if you have ultramarine blue and Alizarin Crimson, would it be better if you made your purple from that? Or is the Dioxazine purple or mauve different? Looking forward to the next lesson. Great job on these!

      Hi Mike, the Dioxazine or Mauve is cleaner or brighter. the ultra and aliz or fine, just a bit more muted.

      Could you tell me how you got your blue green?
      Would you use cad yellow with orange to get your yellow orange or yellow and just a bit of red?
      Thanks so much in advance!

    is it typical for violet to be alizarin and ultramarine? According to this color wheel it should be cad red+ ultramarine. What are the benefits of that mix over the one I mentioned

    • @philstarke.artist
      @philstarke.artist  8 місяців тому

      Hi, Alizarin and ultramarine blue make a cleaner violet, its what I usually use. Cad red plus ultramarine will make a more muted violet

    • @lswallie
      @lswallie 8 місяців тому

      oh ok, is that because cad red has some kind of yellow or orange bias, so when you mix it with blue its kind of mutes it, violet has been a finicky color to mix - love all your videos btw@@philstarke.artist

    He should leave the foto visible on a corner of the canvas. It would be really helpful.
