Thank you for leaving in the part you had to repair on the spine. It's good to see how you fixed the problem. It helps us unexperienced journal makers to know what to do. 😊❤
Thanks Lorraine. I am quite used to having to fix things as I make my fair share of mistakes and have learned that most are fixable and usually turn out even better than before. I just walk away until a plan B springs to mind 💕
Thanks for sharing the "what went wrong" part, cause it turned out even better. I always told my daughter; 'no mistakes, just design opportunities'. And you proved that true!
Thanks Leah, that’s so true as I preferred it after the fix. Best thing is not to panic when things like this happen, as there is nearly always a way to sort it out 🧡
Hello Nina! I just love everything you do and the way you teach things. You are a star! I have watched all the tutorials I have been able to find on youtube. Naturally I am now a subscriber. I am a beginner and have learnt so many things from you. An extra plus is your clear and beautiful articulation without any mannerism. Thank you so much for sharing
Hello nina, how great when an idea does not work out, but solving it makes it better. Good that you said to use the things we have, not hanging on to them all the time, enjoy them, because sometomes you almost forget you have them. Love and hugs lena xxx
Hello Lena. Problems often present opportunities don’t they and it was certainly the case with this. There is some kind of coating on the cover and the glue just would not stick. A light sanding would have done the trick if I’d been aware of the issue. I agree, we all hoard onto things and then forget what we have at our fingertips. Have a wonderful Friday and fabulous weekend. Love and Hugs 💕 xxx
Thank you so much Nina, I really really enjoyed watching you create this journal again. The reason why I watched again, because I went into my local Sainsbury’s and they had No 5 Daphnes Diary on the shelf, so I grabbed it. I really really love ❤️ this and I’m thinking of subscribing too. Please stay safe and well too xxx Mags ❤❤❤
I was really intrigued to see how the end result was going to turn out. What seems to be a mistake always becomes a new opportunity! Thoroughly enjoyed it. Looking foeward to Pt 2.
Thanks Elizabeth. I had to walk away from it and give myself time to thing of a plan B when I realised the burlap was not going to stick. I much prefer it now though 💕
Thank you Nina for this video, a great way to use DD magazine as a keepsake too. Looking fwd to the rest of the series. Appreciate how you fixed up something that was not working and showed it to us.
Nina, this came out beautifully, I like the striped spine better than the burlap too! I am so looking forward to this series. I have the spring Daphne's Diary from last year and have only used the craft from one page, so I look forward to your inspiration for using the rest of it. Hope your week is going well, I am already looking forward to Sunday's video.❣
Thanks Debbie. The sun has been shining all week and the it was like a Summers day yesterday with temperatures in the late teens. Turning cooler again next week, so will be making the most of it whilst it lasts. The garden is coming to life again which always puts a smile on my face. Hope you are having a good week too 💕🌸🌸🌸 xo
Oh, Nina I LOVE this video!! I am a new DD subscriber and yours is the first video I have watched where someone has successfully taken an issue and done something marvellous with it. I also loved the part where something did not go according to plan and you showed us all how you fixed it. FANTASTIC video ... on to part 2 now ... thanks so much for doing this. 😀
This was so fun to watch! I have a collection of old DD's, and prior experience making mini-album books (chipboard based). You're right: At first I was shocked and horrified that you would "destroy" a DD, but I'm going over to your side, with the "got to use it!" attitude. I'm a new subscriber, so I don't know if this has already been brought up: there is a marvelous super-sticky double-sided tape that some bookmakers use, called "ScorTape." It comes in different widths, and I used it extensively when I made books. The UA-cam tutorials I learned from are by Ginger, who goes by the name "MySistersScrapper." Her tutorials are excellent. She also uses a canny method to close flaps, utilizing tiny magnet buttons ... that's a fun technique! Thanks for making these videos, and sharing your fearless spirit!
Hi Randy, welcome to my channel. I must admit I have never tried ScorTape although I have heard of it. I will check Ginger’s channel out as she is new to me. Thanks for sharing the info 💕
I purchased my first Daphne’s Diary following a recently past video of yours Nina. It is a beautiful magazine and I appreciate ideas on how to make use of it once I’ve finished admiring it. My inclination is to hoard it. I always enjoy your videos. Many thanks 🙏🏻
I was exactly the same, but 3 years later I’m ruthless now. I recall being so shocked as they were cut and torn by the journal makers I love to watch lol In my heart I was positive I could never ever do it book, magazine or worse beautiful antique linen. I’m in there boots and all for “art’s sake” I tell myself when it feels hard to sacrifice. It was liberating.
Love it! A great happy accident, having to add the yellow spine. It adds to it a great deal. I find that accidents and repairs often end up actually enhancing a project more than the original intention.
Hi Wendy, it’s a beautiful magazine isn’t it. I bought my first copy back in 2013 and it was just as beautiful back then. I hope you will enjoy yours 💕xx
I was hoping you would do this series. Your cover looks lovely. I wonder if you had the glue difficulties due to the glossy paper cover. I have had problems with glue on glossy paper. But no problem- your cover looks even prettier with the scrapbook paper spine. Looking forward to part two
Thank you so much Nina, I really really enjoyed watching you create that journal cover, it’s really really awesome and stunning too. Yes it’s good to see how you sorted the oops 😬 moment and what you did to rectify it, is really really awesome and stunning too. It’s a great idea too, so looking forward to seeing you what you do next. Please stay safe and well too xxx and hug’s too xxx Mags

Love this Nina 🥰 The happy accident turned out to be brilliant . I now have to be brave and start the breaking process of my magazine. Thanks for sharing 😍😍
Love, love, love! How wonderful this looks! And thanks for showing us how u fixed ur problem. I appreciate u not editing it out. Can't wait for the next video. TFS😊 💙💛
Thank you so much Nina, this is absolutely gorgeous, I love it !! Ok now, my turn to go and play with my daphne's diary magazine !! Yeah !! Thank you for sharing too, Natalie
I’m new to Daphne’s Diary … I’m STILL not sure where they’re from, but I just ordered 4 magazines, even though the shipping cost was near as much as the product. You created a lovely journal cover. I’ve seen this in my recommendations for a couple of weeks now, and wondered from the thumbnail, “How can I create one of these with my name” … lol I CANNOT WAIT to get the magazines. They look like they’ll have SOOOO much inside to play with. Argh …. TOO MANY supplies, not near enough time left to play with them all, lol
Haha, never enough days in the week I know! Daphnes Diary is published in the Netherlands. I don’t know where you are based, but do Google it online as there are a couple of magazine distributors that might be cheaper 💕
I have been waiting for you to start this exercise and I really like how the cover turned out, now to wait for this issue to arrive so that I can work along with you and seeing as we are about two issues behind I will be waiting for awhile.
So glad to see this particular video. I bought several DD magazines from a thrift store and then wasn’t sure how I wanted to use them. Love the way it turned out, no mistakes just crafting opportunities ♥️ Looking forward to the next video in the series. Thank you so much for showing your work around when the fabric (?) wouldn’t stick. One less mistake for me to figure out how to fix!
Thanks Nancy. The cover has some kind of coating that the glue just wouldn’t stick to. I think if I had sanded the spine down before I glued the fabric down, it probably would have stuck. I’m will know next time 💕
It's great Nina. What I'm finding interesting, some time ago many crafter's used Fabrictac glue ( so I started using it) Now most crafter's have moved over to using Art glitter glue. ( which I've not tried). I'm wondering if Fabrictac would have made a better job gluing the fabric to the spine. Anyway your end result is splendid.
Hello Pauline. Fabritac is a fabulous glue and dries almost instantly , and without any buckling as it is acetone based. Having used it for quite some time now, I do find that it can be rather brittle and bulky, and has a tendency to leave bumps when used with thinner papers and fabrics. I don’t know what it is about Art Glitter Glue, but it has all the benefits of Fabritac, but is far more flexible, and you need the tiniest amount for the glue to grab. Most PVA/wet glues take a long time to dry and buckle your pages which is quite a nuisance for many crafters, but Art Glitter Glue doesn’t, which is why it has become so popular. I find it has a stronger grab than Fabritac. I don’t think Fabritac would have been any better for gluing the burlap to my spine as I believe the issue was to do with the coating that is on the front and back cover of the magazine. In hindsight I would have been better off sanding the spine first before adding the burlap, and I’m sure then the glue would have grabbed. I hope this explains why so many crafters have switched glues 💕
Thanks for the video Nina. I love Daphnes Diary. My problem is that it takes months to get to Australia. Last year I got the Christmas edition in February. I have made a signature from the magazine but haven't gone any further than that. I am looking forward to seeing what you do next.
Hi Linda, I have been collecting this magazine since 2013, not all the copies, but I have lots of back issues that I intend to use during this series. I am aware that not everyone will have the latest issue and I don’t want that to become a hang up for anyone. I hope you’ll pick up plenty of inspiration and enjoy following along ❤️
Nina, I'm new here. Are there notes about what kind of glue, pens, and other accessories that you use? And, where I might find them, or other them? Thank you!
Great minds, Nina!! I was only just doing the same with a calendar when I opened your video. Your efforts have produced another beauty. Can't wait to see it finished. Veronica x
Isn't that cover a devil it's got plastic over it and it's hard to get some glues to work on it but I think the new spine worked a treat...looks great 💖 😁😁 I also think you will probably find the spine will help it not to get a gator mouth to badly as well. 😊😊🌼
Oh isn’t it just! I thought I was going mad at first and not applying enough glue, but even after weighting it down under a pile of bricks (yes I did, lol!), it still hadn’t stuck and peeled right off! What glues have worked for you? I was kind of glad it happened as I could see I was going to end up with a gator mouth, so it was a good opportunity to add the spine. I prefer it this way ❤️ xx
@@NinaRibenaMixedMedia I have tried fabritac but that doesn't always work either, I'm afraid it's sandpaper then glue but sometimes just pva can work, just takes a longer time to dry. I think the sewing was a great way round it 🤔😊👌 the tooth on the paper of the cover is probably the likely problem!
It was wonderful to see your process and agreed that it was great to see what to do with the "mistake", especially now I'm trying to make a journal with three signatures, so wonder if I have those three, do I need to make the inner white spine wider? Thanks for any tips you and others care to share! Look forward to seeing Part 2!
Thanks Cheryl, glad this was helpful. My ‘Use Your Scraps’ journal has 3 signatures and the spine is 2”. I personally don’t like the gator mouth effect, so I always allow plenty of room for expansion. Here is the tutorial showing how I made that journal if you are interested: 3 signature journal - Cover: ua-cam.com/video/yUYhYiDSFXg/v-deo.html Adding the signatures: ua-cam.com/video/xejW3ahG-Lc/v-deo.html
hi Nina, I also make my journals from Daphhe's Diary. I also use these journals myself. First read and browse and then take it apart. I already have my Spring journal ready. I'm curious how yours will be. likes to make them.
Lovely lovely DD journal cover. Thank you for sharing. PS. I always have to lightly sand DDiary , then wipe area with alcohol before gluing fabric every time, some papers won’t adhere properly either for me without sanding. I wondered if there’s a coating on the front and back pages that are shipped to Australia
Thanks so much Annabella. I think you are right about there being some kind of coating on the front and back. Art glitter glue normally sticks to anything and I also had trouble getting the scrapbooking paper on the spine to stick properly. Sanding it first is a great idea ❤️
Nina, do you happen to have a video of how to stitch on paper. I’m a newbie. I’m in the states but found a local bookstore that sells the Daphne’s Diary.
Hello Phyllis, I don’t have a specific video for stitching on paper, but all I can say is, if you have a sewing machine, get it out and try it in the same way you would use it on fabric. I had a phobia of the sewing machine for years, and my machine sat in its box for 2 years before I plucked up the courage to use it. I am still using the original needle that was supplied with the machine and it’s works beautifully on paper. I hope you’ll give it a try ❤️

Your spine was a beautiful happy accident. FYI- fabri tac would have held the burlap. I’ve never had much luck with art glitter glue holding fabric. I can wait to see the papers you use for your signature.
Thank you for leaving in the part you had to repair on the spine. It's good to see how you fixed the problem. It helps us unexperienced journal makers to know what to do. 😊❤

Thank you!
Thankyou
Great minds, Nina!! I was only just doing the same with a calendar when I opened your video. Your efforts have produced another beauty. Can't wait to see it finished. Veronica x
Thanks so much Veronica 💛. Ooh how fabulous. Happy Creating 💕

Here is the tutorial showing how I made that journal if you are interested:

@@NinaRibenaMixedMedia thanks so very much for the link. I'm new to this so am very grateful! Love your videos!
@@NinaRibenaMixedMedia That's fabulous and wonderful of you to share your tutorial!
hi Nina, I also make my journals from Daphhe's Diary. I also use these journals myself. First read and browse and then take it apart. I already have my Spring journal ready. I'm curious how yours will be. likes to make them.
There are so many beautiful images in these magazines. Let’s have some fun 💕
@@NinaRibenaMixedMedia thanks. I do have a fairly new machine and will give it a go. I look forward to the next video. 😻

Nina do you have a link to purchase the metal book corners?
I’ll see if I can find it. I think they were from Amazon.

I'm confused where did the fabric go?
I do explain this in the video 💕
Your spine was a beautiful happy accident. FYI- fabri tac would have held the burlap. I’ve never had much luck with art glitter glue holding fabric. I can wait to see the papers you use for your signature.
Thanks Christina, I do have Fabritac, so will try that next time ❤️
What type of machine do you use?
I’m not sure what you mean?
Sewing machine
Is your magazine geared toward junk journaling?
I will use for for magazine journaling and fill the pages with images from Daphne’s Diary magazines 💕
Anybody know the cost of shipping on this magazine it says $88.00 for the year. Is shipping extra
Hi Charlotte, where are you based?
I like a happy accident 🤗💜🧚♀️
