Thought about trying for perch out there, but haven't heard anything good. Such a weird year, who knows where to look. Went out in the boat today on a local lake and had no luck. Ice just went out yesterday and some how locator said 39 degrees?
I've thought about doing this with my muskrat floats. Never have but I think it's a good thing to try... As long as you can stay close enough the DNR doesn't call it a set line or a jug
It was was just for fun, I’ll definitely be trying it again someday 😂 it was only out about 10-15’ attached to the boat with a line so it’s perfectly legal
I've heard there's a ton of perch in the river. Perhaps try and do some perch fishing there, and set a tipup out just like out on the bay, or do you think there'd be too much current in the river to do that?
@@CNCoutdoors was watching that show Wardens .. they were in Maine at musky tournament.. guy was floating a tip ups down the river.. he got ticket.. use to fish a lot neighbors pontoon boat.. we anchor over this sunk island... After couple hours fish would take cover in the shade under the boat.. needed like ice fishing holes thru the floor..
I think it’s really cool technology and i don’t think it should be banned or anything like that. But i do think the DNR needs to lower limits/ protect fish during the spawn. People that use it definitely need to respect the recourse and practice catch & release often. Good question! 🎣
@@CNCoutdoors all fair points, thanks! I personally think it’s a slippery slope and at some point, someone will need to draw the line in the sand on technology. For example, at some point if we can scan a whole lake and that returns waypoints of where the biggest fish are in a given lake (extreme example) will that be adopted by the public? I’m first and foremost a bass fisherman so I’m viewing it through that lens’s, and I see how much it has changed the sport - the tournaments are ridiculous these days.. guys cruising around staring at a screen until they find a high quality fish, pitch at it, typically catch it. Those with knowledge of fish patterns, behavior, etc aren’t rewarded like they once were. It concerns me a bit because I think it’s a slippery slope and how I once viewed bass fishing and what it took to be successful is changing before my eyes. IMO the learning curve to be a successful angler has been significantly reduced which is why majority of the population loves it. I can afford live scope, I would have significant increased success using live scope while bass fishing, I just personally cant get behind it. Frustrates me a bit because I’d like to get into tournament fishing and this current version of the sport just isn’t for me. I would like to see it banned in tournaments but would be okay with it for recreational use (taking into account all the points you made surrounding sustainability). Definitely a hot topic right now and I have different views on it for ice fishing (okay with it in this application) and targeting other species. It’ll be interesting to see how it all plays out.
@@lmieneroutdoors i would not be sad at all if it was banned in tournament fishing. Like you said, it takes a lot of guess work out of finding the fish. All the FFS users say “ you still have to catch the fish” well yeah but there going to catch those fish eventually lol it’s not that hard when you can see exactly where they are and how there reacting to the bait. Nice boat. How do you like it now that you have a few years fishing out of it? I have a 1996 Alumacraft 16' Dominator. Very reliable boat. Was thinking about upgrading to a bigger Alumacraft. If my boat was as wide as the newer boats i would just stay with what I have.Alumacraft makes a great solid boat.@@CNCoutdoors

Awesome! I love the thinking outside the box ideas

Just use a slip bobber
Yeah Ik.. this was just for the fun of it
Hey still enjoyed the video! That’s why they call it fishing not catching … looking forward to the next one …
Thanks!! 🎣

Would be wild to catch a walleye off the floating tip up 😂 nice video though tight lines sir🎣👊🏼

I wouldn’t doubt it. There might be too much current in the rivers for the tip up unless you find them in some slack water.
Must work they outlawed it in Michigan and Maine
I’ll catch a fish on it one of these days 😂 just gotta find the fish first

Umm totally illegal was tried years ago in vilas county. Considered a set line back then
Not according to the warden i talked to. Said it was legal if it was tied to the boat and within reasonable distance.

What Alumacraft boat do you have?
It’s a 2018 Alumacraft Competitor 185 shadow series

And before anyone gets on your case for “jug fishing” with the tipup you were completely legal because it was attached to the boat by a line.
Yup, I’ll be trying it again one of these days. Would be so awesome to watch that flag pop 😂
