Yes, totally underrated machine, has a lot of bad things and also it is very limited in some aspects, but by the other hand is a great devices and very flexible. It necessary to spent time working on it to have a nice sound. I am looking for a good time/price to buy another one 😂. Two better than one 😅

I got both the E2S (sampler) and the E2 (synth), and the lack of a "prelisten" function on the E2S made it extremely impractical for using with an extended sample library. However, i dont really need that sample library when i can use the E2 to create the samples quickly and easily. Its 55 wavetables give it a very wide range of sounds, and the 16 tracks allows me to layer up to 16 oscillators, and store it in a pattern. I made one where the first 8 tracks are for snare drums, and the last 8 tracks is divided in 2 section, with 4 tracks for hi hats, and the last 4 for kick (some of the snare tracks can be layered together with the kicks, for more variety). So now i can very easily turn on/off tracks, and maybe make some quick adjustments to individual layers to get just the right sound, before i sample it onto the E2S. But now i also got NI Maschine MK3, which WOULD BE a much better alternative for recording samples - BUT it also has a good browser and prelisten function, so now i can actually use my extensive sample library. Being lazy, ive not used the E2/MK3 to record any samples yet - but i probably will start at some point, as the features and workflow on the E2 makes it REALLY cool for this purpose 🤘
@EspenFrafalne "prelistening" .... you can push whatever note and move through the samples. You don't need more than that 🤷🏻 Sampling in E2 doesn't have sense for me. 32mb of memory is not enough, so I prefer to make my own sample pack with the specifications that I need and that all. For damaging you can use mpc1000 or any machine, you can do it on E2 but is not the best potential functionality of it.
@@modulartheory This "prelisten method" you talk about only works for the stock samples. If you have a big library of samples on a SD card, you will have to load up individual samples into the internal memory of the E2S before you can listen to it. This is really not ideal if you got 30.000 samples, and want to find a good one quickly, lol! As for sampling, the E2S is not a good choice for recording entire loops, but it should not have any problems with sampling quick drum sounds.
@EspenFrafalne in my opinion, it isn't worth having that amount of samples. If you use/load new samples in your list, that means you will lose one of them. Because E2 adds the new one on the internal memory... it is quite better a manager software for that. More control, you can manipulated cut, reduce the size and make it mono .. for example
@@modulartheory It wont delete any of the stock samples to load up samples from the memory card. Those are stored at different parts of the memory, and you need special software if you want to change out the stock samples with your own favorite ones. If you have sampled your own stuff on the internal memory, then you could just save that to the memory card, and not have to worry about loosing it. But looking through thousands of samples is still not something anyone would actually do with this device...
@EspenFrafalne under my experience... if you have loaded your own sample list file, and you want to load someone in your sd card, them you have to load in a specific slot, then E2s record it in a slot into your sample list file. If you would prefer to work with store samples and add some of your sd card, then E2s create a new sample list file, but this method is risky because you will need to load again the file. Correct me if I am mistaken 🤔👍
Really nice track well done. And good to see these Korgs still going strong. The description says E2 Sampler is that a mistake or is this a hacked machine?
Thanks! It is right, it is a Korg Electribe 2 sampler. I used a blue light for the video. Korg E2 is a very underrated machine. His shape is not the most cool I have seen and it hasn't an expensive functionalities ... but it is very powerful machine for this rate of price.
Thanks Jorge. Yes, why not? You could connect with MIDI.. but What would you like to do with that devices ? Electribe as master and others as slaves? Or just Sync? It depends what would you like to do :) electribe sends 16 different midi information. Each pad is a midi sequence of each midi channel. So you could sequence a pattern and trigger notes of your old synth I it has MIDI
Hi!! i want to play some melody with the synth and loop with the boss, and add some beat with a drum machine...and loop with the boss too? Thanks again!!
Jorge I am pretty sure you can do it. Output sound to the boss looper. Then you can loop everything 👍 and also you can create two pattern, one for melody and ones for drums, each pad for one sound, or a loop. And you can reproduce in loop without any looper.
For me is the best machine in this range of price. Although is an old machine and it hasn't an actual software to manage samples or wave files, like modern grooveboxes.

@meesvandenberg9468 If you wanna jam in a simple but well finished piece, Korg Electribe is your machine. It has 16 parts, and all of them can be used as synth, sound ( samples in sample version ) , sliced, and midi to control external devices. It has one stereo audio imput that you can use to process the audio. You can set key root and scale for each pattern or use the chord assistant. You can chain patterns to make a full song or something longer as a full session. For me, it has a very creative process, not very deep menus, and you can do everything very quickly, keeping the mood and the inspiration. I also have mc101, and it is quite different. It doesn't feel as fast and creative that korg, mc101 have much specifications and options but also more menu diving, and it isn't as well finished as korg. In my opinion. As far as I remember, my E2S switched patterns in time, so there's really no reason to limit yourself to a single pattern in a jam (there might be issues with reverb/delay tails being cut off). Though, I generally used to duplicate tracks (say bass-A and bass-B) and switch between them in the same pattern - makes jamming more enjoyable and 16 polyphonic tracks is really more than you need in a groovebox (most boxes give you 6 or 8 mono tracks).
Yes. I agree with you. It is old and clumsy. But still very useful and powerful in some way. I think that limitations are your best friend in creativity.
