What a neat process that was, that phone/text communicator they gave you was awesome. I love how tech is evolving. Glad surgery went well for Abby and Lord willing things will continue to be uphill from now on for her. Prayers for you all as she recovers.
Children’s hospital is such an amazing hospital. They do make a hospital as nice as one could.
Yes, the hospital really does help make the process a lot easier to go through. They know how to help families and parents very well. We too are so glad that the surgery is behind us and Abby is off to recover during the holiday season. 2024 is looking to be a really good year for her!
My sister and I watched this this morning, as we always do..... we both cried with you, when she came out of surgery! We could feel your relief! You have become family to us!! So happy it went so well! Please send Abbey our best, we are thinking you all! Merry Christmas!! We got your card, and yours is in the mail!

Oh my goodness watching this right now and I am all emotional. Crying me eyes out. So relieved that everything went well with her surgery. My heart was pounding as I was watching. What a brave young lady you have and for her surgery to not take as long was wonderful news!! So happy for Abby that she was finally able to have the surgery. I know I didn’t personally meet her, but so happy she let let you post a tad bit of this journey for all of viewers us to watch. Sending many thoughts and prayers for a quick recovery. This video popped up in my recommendations here on UA-cam. I have been thru the surgery that Abby has been thru. I had the surgery done 45 years ago. Things were different back then. Glad that the surgery went well. Abby, good luck with recovery! And yes, the liquid and soft diets will get boring. Love and HUGS from Missouri
Yes, they did this surgery different for my brother and niece just 5 years ago. Technology helps to advance medicine so much. Sorry you too had to have this surgery. It’s hard. 🩷

What a wonderful set up they had there and the communication system was so nice as well. I cried along with you as the news came through that all went well and she came through recovery quickly. She’s a trooper and so strong. I’m glad that you could be there with her for her surgery day and time in the hospital. Long road ahead but that sure looked like a very successful day and the prognosis sounds very encouraging. Yes, Children's Hospital does a great job for parents and families while they are waiting. There are so many spots to wait too. Abby is such a strong kid, but I'm looking forward to when she just gets to be a teenager without pain. Thanks as well for your package! I meant to message you earlier. We just got it 2 days ago, but the girls loved opening it up. They immediately knew it was from you too! Love that they have a personal relationship with your friendship on here. They are starting to understand why the community I have here means so much to me. You guys are all so amazing! Thank you very much!

Hugs to you Mom and Dad. My SIL had this surgery also-due to too narrow of throat opening-she had sleep apnea and had panic attacks with a CPAP. She looks so different now-even 5 or so years later, I expect her old face when I see her. Im praying for a positive recovery for Abby.

@@ciaranmeehan9499 thanks for asking. She is doing great. If anything I worry she is moving overly fast. She is handling the pain with meds. That was a worry. She has swelling but no bruising. She is able to feed herself and get around. Things are going good.

Welcome! Sorry that you found our channel with such a sad video of our daughter though. I've explained her need for this surgery in other previous videos but I can explain it here for you quickly.
She was born with a genetic defect in her jaw where it wasn't lined up correctly. She hasn't been able to bite down correctly for over 3 years, plus she's had extreme jaw pain because of it. They can't do surgery to fix it until their bones are fully grown, but luckily Abby's growth pattern was in the direction the jaw would ultimately grow in once repaired. (if that makes sense) So they were able to do the surgery about 1-2 years ahead of schedule. Her jaw pain has led to upper neck tension and then into lower back pain. So having this surgery is going to help so many other issues over time.
The surgery itself is pretty intensive. They break the jaw & reset it in the correct location. This then puts the cheek bones, chin bone and even the nose out of whack. So they have to do full cosmetic surgery to move all of those around to make room for the new jaw placement. Luckily it meant that Abby could digitally design/choose how she wanted her cheeks, chin and nose to look. She'll still have to have a rhynoplasty done on her nose next year as her nose cavity is still too narrow to breathe right. Because it's all related to the jaw, that surgery is included in the insurance approval.
You'll see in future videos that I explain the process of how she has to eat as well as part of her recovery. But she's a very private person, so I leave a lot out of the videos out of respect for her. It will take the rest of the year to recover, and even into the new year. We're hoping she can go back to school after the new year though.
How is she feeling after the surgery?
It's a really rough recovery still. Slow and steady; she'll be better soon.
How much school does she have to miss?
I’m assuming you mean missing school? She’s missing 2 weeks of school before Christmas break. She’s a great student, so none of her teachers were worried about her missing time. She’s even taking a test from home next week.
