    Lyle,
    Because of these two videos that you posted. I’m having this exact mod done to my 360/12 Walnut. Just left mine with the tech today.

    Being a Rickenbacker owner, my concern about push/pulls was the depth of the body. You have once again alleviated my concerns. Thanks for this video, Lyle. I would have liked to have seen the 12-saddle bridge being grooved to the correct depths. You might be terrified by the fact I bought a set of JBE PUPS for my 330-12. Guitars are tools to me, and not fetish items. The whole "Oh, you've devalued the guitar by customizing it to your own specific needs" arguments is total BS to me. I feel the same way about 'relicked' guitars. I want my guitars pristine before I start doing my thing to them. By pristine, I refer to Reverb's 'excellent' grade and above, for used axes.

      Oh, I just have an old set of Stewmac nut files a luthier friend gave me. I just chose the ones for the string gauges or a little larger, lined the strings up where I wanted them, did a quick pass on each with a .010 to set the line, then did a groove with each guage, keeping an angle towards the tailpiece. Then I used a little plastic 12" radius guage beneath the strings and filed until the strings all made contact. None of the slots were deep - just enough to keep the strings from coming out. Then I smoothed each one with some abrasive string.
      I didn't film it as I do this kind of thing once a year or less. I'm far from an expert at that kind of stuff, not like the actual luthiers I know. So I didn't want to do a video on it, as I'm not a professional in that area.
      "Write what you know" you know?

    I'm inspired. Will adopt this mod as it makes sense and the 5th pot is the good position for a push/pull. Thanks for the idea and making this video and sharing it.
    I don't know much about Rics mechanically.
    Would anyone have insight as to why Rickenbacker put the tone knobs on top?

  • @TastyTone

    New subscriber. Fantastic Forum! If I am seeing this video correctly, it appears that in this mod, the tone control inputs are not fed from the wipers of the volume pots. I have seen in several other of your videos that you prefer that wiring arrangement. I have made those mods to some of my guitars based upon your explanation of why you prefer that and I can confirm that it absolutely works to prevent the loss of highs when backing down the volume pot without requiring a .0047uF ("bright") cap in series with the pickup output. Is there a reason you chose not to include that mod in the Rickenbacker Vintage/Modern mod?

    A 1993 Plus model 12 string is essentially like the 350, but with the wider 1-3/4” neck. 3 pickups, capri shaped “thin body” like George’s 360/12, but with 3 pickups and an F-hole. You could do the 350 wiring mod you did previously. I’d probably just do this push/pull 0.0047uF mod, and blend the middle in/out like you did on the 350. Beautiful guitars too. I just got my brother one. Exploring your amp reviews for that very guitar.

    For future reference regarding knurled shaft pots…you can get bushings to use them with set screw knobs.

    Hi Lyle, I like the safety wire around the pots. Could I get your opinion on what pots you would use in a budget SG style guitar with humbuckers? Bourne, CTS or Alpha. Or does it make a difference? Enjoy your evening.

    • @PsionicAudio
      @PsionicAudio  3 роки тому +1

      It depends on the budget.. Going from 16mm pots to 24mm requires enlarging holes and usually new knobs. CTS will give the best taper, but if you have 16mm Alphas and they're working for you, no need to change.

    I can't for the life of me figure out my Ric's wiring issue. Volume all the way down and it hums like crazy. Model 330, changed the wiring to a Les Paul order but left the 5th knob alone and the way it was. All grounds look fine, reflowed all the solder and went over the schematic. Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I know its not supposed to new like this. Love your channel!!!!

    • @PsionicAudio
      @PsionicAudio  Рік тому

      Thanks!
      Standard Rick wiring is like a J bass. It turns the pickup to ground, not the output jack. So the input to the amp is always some resistance from ground, never muted.
      You have to rewire it fully like a Les Paul to get silence when the volumes are both down. Or rewire the Blend knob as a master volume.

    • @PsionicAudio
      @PsionicAudio  Рік тому +1

      Or just use a volume pedal or tuner to mute.

    Hello. I really enjoy your videos. You do let me in on what the weak points are on Fender 40 or less wattage amps. Question for you. I bought a used Tokai LP copy on thebay. It has Borne pots. If the pots were to be changed, would I have a choice of either the larger born post (or so I hear) and or a bushing to be used for a cts pot with I think a smaller bore. I really like this guitar. Any ideas? Thank you.J.

    • @PsionicAudio
      @PsionicAudio  3 роки тому +1

      I'm unaware of any Bourns pot with a bushing diameter larger than 3/8" (CTS standard diameter). In a Tokai I would expect to find pots with a smaller diameter that would need to be reamed out for larger CTS bushings. That is something you should take your guitar to a tech for, as you don't want to split the wood or damage the finish.
