14:30 the book had mentioned the accent goes on the second to last syllable. It was tricky at first so thank you for bringing that up
Also it sounds to me like Nahuatl is like ASL (sign language) with tone and expression modifying commands.
And do you have any resources to hear more spoken Nahuatl?

@@SteamClockWork forvo has a few recorded audio by me, but its only one word sequences using the older spelling.
Otherwise, SIL bibles online have lots of recorded audio with follow along text in different nahuatl varieties

You are such a good teacher. Just as I was thinking that your video was in the way of the bottom words, you moved it "just in case" you were blocking them. It really is the mark of a good teacher that they anticipate difficulties students might have. And I really love your chilled, relaxed style.

I love getting some insight into the worldview of these peoples through the language. The fact that there is no please could mean that people generally did not assume saying "xi____" was a command, but the default was assumed to be a polite request, or maybe it's because it all depends on the context, so you actually have to be acting genuine and kind and cannot use politeness as a cover for something when it's not sincere. Just guesses, I'll need to take a trip to meet the people and ask these kinds of questions.

Are these sentences okay in Nahuatl? I know we use the subjunctive in Spanish in these situations:
    1) “She wants you to go home.”
“Quiere que te vayas a tu casa.”
    “Kineki xiyaw mochan”
    2) Alex: Mi mamá dijo que estudies.
    Ana: ¿Qué dijo?
    Alex: Que estudies.
    Alex: Nonanan kihtow ximomachti.
    Ana: Tlen kihtow?
    Alex: Ximomachti.

So. Considering this information, the popular phrase "tiahui!" Is grammatically incorrect, and should actually be "Xitiahuikan!" ?

    • @thenahuatlchannel3896
      @thenahuatlchannel3896  Місяць тому

      Tiahui breaks down as such
      Ti-yawi-h , we are going
Yawi is one form of the verb, yaw, or ya , to go
Its not a command, it doesnt mean, lets go, its a statement meaning, we are going

@@thenahuatlchannel3896 ohhh okay, so, if you wanted to make it a command, would you add the Xi in front ? , would the ending change? To -kan or -an, or would it keep that -H

@@thenahuatlchannel3896 I ask because , information I got from another person said that to make it a command. it would come together as “Ma tiyawian” sorry I know I’m all over the place as far as spelling, I do try to stick with the inali spelling though . I just want to make sure that if I share this with people the information I’m giving is actually correct and accurate.
