    "Sus" chords - short for suspended - are one of the coolest ideas in music theory, used by modern keyboard players from gospel and pop to jazz (by giants such as McCoy Tyner, who is featured on this lesson's thumbnail). In this video I will take you from a total sus-noob into a sus-master, covering both modern pop styles as well as jazz. We'll look at many examples and underlying theory, explaining what sus chord are and how and when to use them.

    Thanks this is really amazing as I was just working with sus chords and when I said let me practice them in inversions as well I noticed it was stacked 4ths. Also I really like how you put in the pentatonic scales and ended with the Blues because that's where it really all started.

      That tells me that you really watched the whole video until the end, which is what the UA-cam algorithm really cares about. God bless you for pushing up the video's metrics :D

      @@MangoldProject LOL I really didn't know that about the metrics. I think I even pushed videos up even more because after I watch them I usually have them playing on my TV as I am nobbling around the house or washing dishes causing the information to become part of my subconscious mind and it's great for ear training also. Even when I don't understand something I can always pick up information that relates to things in the future. Thanks.

      @@raykane2063 Generally the UA-cam algorithm REALLY loves it when you (1) click on a video and, more importantly, (2) watch a lot of a video. If you want to support a certain creator just put his/her video on play and go do the dishes or something :)

      Half is pretty good! Often you just get used to things in life by watching them enough times - music and music theory aren't any different.

    Absolutely wonderful video!
    If I could ask for a favour:
    It would be nice if you could put some old standards scores on the screen and show us the techniques in context. For intermediate students like myself it's not always easy to figure out how to apply them without actual examples.

    Can you do a video about bebop? Techniques

    • @MangoldProject
      @MangoldProject  14 днів тому

      I'm not really a "bebop player", nor do I feel like I have some deep insight into the genre. There are probably much better suited people out there to make such a video. But I'll give it some thought :)
