I don't understand why some people come to these kinds of videos to criticize the "lack of complexity of the game", I understand that there are more complex games like chess but that should not be an excuse to belittle the game of checkers. Personally, I like both games 😶🌫️
I'm ~2000 classical FIDE at chess. I'm not at all sure chess is more complex than checkers for any practical human purposes. Anyway, very different games, both great, both deserving of high and equal respect. I think chess snobs are just ignorant classist assholes, basically (because chess is traditionally associated with upper and middle classes whereas checkers is thought of as more of a working class game)
Apparently it's russian checkers. Pawns are allowed to take backwards, queens can move long. And they have a very unique feature, with promotion being possible in the middle of a multiple jump.
Because it's a board game with similarities and UA-cam's algorithm considers it might be within your spectrum of interests. The algorithm may recommend other related games to you at some point. It shouldn't be that difficult for a chess player to understand.
My grandpa used to destroy me at checkers. I never beat him even once. BTW at 2:37 black had a forced King position. He could have played a3 to b2 forcing c1 to jump him. Then he could have played f6 to g5 forcing h4 to jump him, but then he could have played e7 to g6, d3, a1 for the king and regaining his two sacrificed pieces. (Oh, and every warm blooded male on the planet was rooting for the girl.)
Black had a better position since the start of the video so looking around or not doesn't really influence the end 😅 But they both looked well. Would love to go for a game myself 😂
What version of checkers are they playing. The version I know only a crowned piece can move backwards and jump backwards. Also a crowned piece can't move as may places as you want.
Well, standard girl from Poland. It's really nice to live here :). But our language is quite specific, but besides that, total paradise. :) And the game also is ok. :)
Nah, she's not "standard". She's way above average in terms of physical attractiveness. Definitely out of your league. And no, Poland is far from being "total paradise". It's a nice country but has a lot o problems like any other nation.
My grandfather's sister married a Polish guy like in 1944-45 and moved to Poland from Pskov region. So, possibly I have some relatives in Poland. Actually, her mom could have had some Polish roots. She was left by her mom at the orphange in St. Petersburg around 1900 and taken into a foster family in the Pskov region. But her mom left the note with her full name and kept an eye on her till she was adopted. Her last name at birth was Luzhkovskaya.
From what I saw, I think that you can only take backside if the opponent double jumped (took out two pieces from one attack). Idk if this only applies if you haven't moved your piece or not. Tbh I didn't know that this was even possible too
Apparently they are playing a different form of checkers. You aren't supposed to be able to jump backwards in normal checkers unless your piece has been promoted to a king.
I've only played the wimpy U.S. version of the game. This one looks much more strategic. Chess is my game, but I'd love to try checkers with these rules and board size sometime.

Checker games last for a maximum of 2 minutes. But chess makes people think for a long time and the more you make your brain think, the more your brain develops. But I don't think it's the same for checkers. To me, it was always like a game of chance. Maybe it's because I don't know much about tactical moves in this game. But after playing chess, I realized that I started to look at the checker pieces with a broader perspective. Chess really improves people. I decided to go and play checkers with a high-level computer and at the end of the game, we make the same move 10 times :d
You obviously didn't use high-level computer. I played 6hr games in my career and if I had 20hr to use for an important tournament game, then I'd use it all, because you'll never calculate everything.
Well noticed! The reason of that is the drawing table of the openings. In the high level tournaments there is a drawing of the opening position (over 700 possibilities) to make games harder to prepare. So similar positions could appear in different games.
Chess FM here, I thought competitive checkers was on a 10x10 board. But then again I don’t know very much about checkers because it’s too hard to play.
I'm hopeless at this game but I thought they could only move forward until they became a "Queen" which means he played an illegal move because he captured backwards without a Queen. strange. Is boring though...........
These are the standard international rules, in this case the so-called Brazilian variant, which is played on an 8x8 checkerboard instead of the usual 10x10.
Part of them for sure, but not all of course ;) it's difficult to understand for many that without understanding the game/problem well, you can't fully understand it's complexity
I doubt that a game of chess or Go would be much more watchable without knowing the real complexity and richness of these games. The simplicity of checkers' rules should not mask its depth (especially in its so-called international version).
