I love her storytelling. And, her playing and her singing and her writing and I guess I just love the whole thing!
She explained the background to this song when she sang it in Sydney. There was an audible gasp in reaction from the audience.

I think this song looses something the more complex the arrangement becomes, but dang if there isn't some serious musicianship on the stage (and producing the high-quality audio) in this one. Might not be the version I go back to again and again, but I'm glad I got to have a listen!
I agree. Stripped-down version is more faithful to the theme. Groovy beat diminishes the message.
