Cheesing the Historic Rome GT40 with 142hp Mini (Gran Turismo 2)

- Something different this time around, as I revisit the infamous Historic Car Cup race 2 at Rome against the GT40. A few of us were chatting about this race on Discord, and someone jokingly suggested to win using the Mini 1.3. While this race is near-impossible to win by driving normally, it becomes a lot easier with some less-than-respectful racing techniques, hence the video title.
Gear setup is similar to the one used for the Beat and Elise in prior challenges: 1st and 2nd gear are sacrificed for closer gears from 3rd to 5th. Its torque curve falls off heavily after 7000 RPM, so it needed to be short-shifted. The car felt mostly fine over bumps with 15.0 rear springs, though some care was needed to not lose grip. Everything else is pretty standard.
Music used:
Xth Avenue - Yuto Takei
Theme of Balrog - Hideyuki Fukasawa (from Street Fighter IV)
Journey To The One - MAKOTO
I played NTSC-U GT2 on DuckStation with 60 FPS, 16:9 and metric conversion codes. See Silent's GT2 blog for more info: cookieplmonste...
Wow! Now that's a challenge! Mr. Bean vs Ken Miles 😅
The mini has 200% more speed from bean
damn, even at sharp corner, your speed didn't even drop below 100km/h, impressive!
So amazing to see Mini vs Ford GT40 in Historic Car Cup.
I'm pretty sure I did something similar when GT2 first came out. I was learning to drive in my '85 mini at the same time so put waaaaay too much time and effort into winning everything I could with it haha
Your driving is much clesner than mine though, I remember getting good at ramming the GT40 into the barrier hard enough to get the space to cross the line 1st!
Mini stealing this win like its The Italian Job.
Certainly one of the races of all-time (and one where I'd see these cheese tactics as totally fair).
Have you thought about doing challenges like this in Gran Turismo 3/4? I was able to beat NA pro in GT3 with just a Miata LS and unlock the Zonda. It was only possible by using custom tunes, ramming the AI, wallriding, track-cutting, qualifying above 4th, no-pit strategy, and resetting so that I didn't face off against the Zonda. I never won with more than a few seconds to spare even after all of this, now I'm going for other pro cups with the Miata LS. Great race!
Thank you! Yeah, I've had some things in mind, but I'm probably going to finish up my plans for GT2 first before moving onto GT3. That sounds like a very tough challenge indeed, well played.
@@TeaKanji Thank you, and thank you for the ultimate guide. I just completed the special route wet races with the Miata LS! Your videos gave me the ideas and the knowledge to try a Miata-only run for fun/challenge. Looking forward to the future videos!
With Vega's theme, this just hits different lmao
In a 10 lap race, you could've done it without the wall ride. This was Goodwood worthy, dude, nice drive!
Thank you! Yeah, you're probably right. The way I had the car set up meant that the launch was sacrificed for better acceleration throughout the race, so I guess I would have out-paced the GT40 with an extra lap or two. Kind of wish sometimes that there were more 5-lap+ races, these 2-lap races are over in an instant. Maybe one day, I or someone else will pick up some modding tools and make some custom events.
Wow, never thought this would have been possible, lol
I took a page from your book, to never underestimate granny cars 🤠
@@TeaKanji You make me proud :)
BK4: [RAGE INTENSIFIES]
Whats the engine speed for that ?
I was doing research on gear ratios a while back. This looks urealistic, very.
Is there a major difference with this Mini and the Cooper variation?
And how good is the rally car? It's light and powerful, I wonder how it can perform against other racing cars.
The Cooper can get over 170hp, this one only maxes out at 142hp. They also have different torque curves, the Cooper has less of a fall-off at high-RPM's. The rally car's pretty good yeah, pretty sure it can win most 591hp events except GT 300.
Let’s go mini!
