Two things I notice, people not paying attention while looking at their phones and the homeless don't give a rip they just walk in the street with no regard to traffic.
I don't remember exactly what grade it was, maybe 1st? But we were actually TAUGHT how to cross a street. Anyone recall the rule? Look left, look right, then look left again. Always see homeless disregarding traffic signal and just j-walk everywhere!! Also the people who jog/walk on the roads, just drives me nuts... it's illegal!!!
@LonnieBrewer-dd4wi Yes, it is... Several years back, I almost got cited for it and I was walking on the white part of the curb... only because cars were tightly parked on the sidewalk.
Distributing, but not surprise. I have seen people in the crosswalk looking at their phone not paying any attention to the traffic, people walking against the light taking their sweet time and holding back traffic that has the green light, people darting across the street and cars running the red light. And this is outside of town. The responsibility of safe is a two way street, both pedestrians and drivers. If people (both pedestrian and driver) cannot follow laws and safety rules and dam plain common sense, well there is nothing to say more.
In other parts of the world cars have the right away because they can kill people, pedestrians should be watching out for cars at all times I would rather cross a street when there are no cars as opposed to having a bunch of cars slow down for me. We do it ass backwards here.
Been saying this for years, whether it's pedestrians, motorcycles, or bicycles, a car will ALWAYS win. Whoever made it law that pedestrians have right of way is responsible for all these accidents
@ no always watch for cars and yield to them knowing you’ll never win against one. Don’t be on your phone or mindlessly walking thinking cars will yield for you. As a pedestrian you are the most vulnerable so act accordingly. It’s not that complicated.
I’ve had times where I was about to cross when the walk sign was lit and someone makes a turn on to the lane I’m about to walk on to. Had I stepped in the lane a second sooner I know I would’ve been hit. Of course let’s not forget that quite a few pedestrian accidents have also been hit and runs of people speeding, not seeing the pedestrian, etc. Also there seem to be a lot of pedestrians at night walking around in dark clothes and no lights or reflective gear making them hard to see
This happens alot in the mainland so I wonder... moved from Hawaii and 1st time in my life I've seen too much cars not watching for pedestrian when I got to mainland
They should consider those temporary construction barriers for the pedestrian/bike protections. In addition to this do drastic road diets like reducing a 7 lane road to a 3 lane road.
The lanes are so big that you could use the space that was used for the lanes for legit housing for the homeless. Who cares about parking if it’s near or a road on the rail line.
City should install siren like police cars when the pedestrian is on the cross walk and a car tries to make a left or right turn or decides to run the light the siren censor goes off they should install it above the cross walk it’s just my idea
Autos almost never hit someone standing on the sidewalks. People who get hit by an auto walk in front of a moving auto without looking, assuming the driver sees them. They may have the right of way but the auto will win if the driver doesn't see you.
They removed all the crosswalks now they wanna put special crosswalks. Drivers are the problem, need to lose your license for life due to driver infractions. I teach children that bad decisions have consequences. Our roadways promote speeding with poor enforcement. Need to have bus only lanes on freeway at all times to promote mass transit and it needs to be free.
What causes a pedestrian accident? Distraction! If the pedestrian keeps a line of sight on a car coming he wouldn’t get hit, if the driver kept line of sight on what’s in his lane he wouldn’t be hitting a pedestrian. If one party is distracted the other needs to put full attention and take caution. I’ve been driving for 18 years never crashed because I don’t trust other drivers and pedestrians.
Too many drivers try and make a quick dash for it before pedestrians cross with the walk light....pedestrians have the right of way first. This happens often to me at Laie crosswalk below Laie Point and is really scary
Two things I notice, people not paying attention while looking at their phones and the homeless don't give a rip they just walk in the street with no regard to traffic.
Homeless should be moved to mandatory shelters, they are a public safety issue
People need to learn HOW TO CROSS THE STREET. Stupidity is the trend in Hawaii

@@spang9782 Pedestrians have right of way, not vehicles. You are wrong. The problem is drivers not paying attention and not knowing the laws.
