Finally someone putting it in plain English and simply explaining and defining a speed controller. Magnificent work. I look forward to checking out more of your work.
Thank you very much James!

Very impressive, a lot of information in this video and very clear to understand. 👍👍👍
I was looking all over the internet for a video just like this that breaks down teaches you how it works.👍
Nice video thanks. I don’t like the computer voice. Your voice is better. I am American and you are very easy to understand for me, your English is very good.
Thank you Robert.. I will do my best to give voice on my videos...
thank you, maybe you can, I am upgrading a controller on one of my ebikes. the one that came with the kit is rated at 15a continuous and when i use the motor at full throttle going up to 1200 watts on the meter that would be 24a and i've had the motor connectors melt causing an open on one phase, so i searched for a higher capacity controller, got a 48 volt 2000w which should be close to 40a continuous. in looking at the wiring there is no display connector, i have opened it up and looked at all the connections on the pcb and see a place that looks like wiring could go there for a display, and i am hoping with the connectors i am getting i can connect it easily to try it out, it may be sine wave and have smoother operation also, but i want the programming options i have with mine now that has the KT-LCD3 display. so do you know about using a controller that doesn't have a display connector and if i might get lucky soldering the display wires onto the board? and are most controllers programmable from common displays, mine is a 48v 2000w
did you have any success adding a connector for the display directly onto a board with the display pins available but not wired?
@@simoncossettini9680 no, i did not, i had tried 3 controllers and no success even getting them to start to run, i may have damaged 1 but i learned by trial that matching the controller and display is easier if they are stated to work together, now, i did have success using a programmable far driver 72300 on a 48 volt 1000w upgraded bike that the previous owner had the same trouble, maybe shorted it trying to install it but again no run, so, i put my prized, saved FarDriver hot rod controller on there using my phone as a programming display, without a handlebar display, i added a voltmeter, it had a 800 watt battery, so the controller was much higher rated than the battery or the motor but, IT WAS THE BEST THING !!! THAT style of programmable controller is so much more refined, without the display features, it goes: smoother, farther, longer than anything that was on it!! the customer still loves it! it was a 2000 Lee Iacocca EV Global beautiful ebike upgraded with bigger motor and battery and that fardriver controller was FANTASTIC! but no never did get a display added to a controller that wasn't already wired for it, there is programming in the chips for display options too.
Thanks for your time,I love your work
You give me strength to keep doing what I do... Thanks Cherif Bouzaza!
Thanks for another great video. Did you have any success adding a connector for the display directly onto a board with the display pins available but not wired? or is the chipset responsible for that functionality - I would imagine sometimes they use the same board but don't fill it with same chipset?
Excellent video, probably for me, the best I've ever seen. Please tell me if this graphics on the board is the same for all controllers? Thanks for clarifying me. Greetings and much success.
Some labels is same, but 85-90 of controllers have different labels
Very few videos this good!!
Thank you very much for your carefully explained.
Kiitos !! Ostin uuden boksin missä ei ollut mitään merkintöjä.
I really like this scientific method of testing ..thanks alot
Just got a 'Thumb Control Throttle' that I want to connect to 48V 1000W brushless controller. Previously used 'Twist Throttle' that came with the conversion kit but it F****d Up! So got another one and that didn't last long either. Thought I'd try a 'Thumb Throttle' because there is less to go wrong!? (and yes clearly tempting fate with that comment!) What I want to know is, when I connect the 'Thumb Throttle' to the controller using the 'Twist Throttle' connection I will need a separate 'Ignition' or 'On/Off' switch. This is because the 'Twist Throttle' has the 'On/Off' switch built in. But assuming the throttle operation uses the Red - Black - Green wires I have 3 wires left to choose from Brown - Yellow - White to connect the On/Off control? Any suggestions? Or would the 'Thumb Throttle' work if I connected it to the 'Pedal Assist'?
Best to seperate the throttle section out of your plug and test just that part - by leaving your twist throttle connected and pull out the pins from the plug one by one - if you pull a pin and the throttle doesn't work then you have either removed throttle pin or power pin to on/off - then just eliminate wires. Then the on /off switch is just a in and out switch that turns on the controller, that leaves one wire that may be power light (or battery indicator usually comes on when you turn the controller on.) - once you have the throttle sorted an on off switch just run the multimeter from an earth to your last wire to see if it gets voltage.
@@simoncossettini9680 Thank you for your reply the timing of which was quite fortuitous given that I have just decided to reconnect my bike motor after not having used it for a few months, so much appreciated!
Excellent, thanks for sharing!

One of the best videos....learnt a lot ..... thank you
what ar you using to put the motor table which allows it to free spin when testing it with controler?
Good tiching karte hai 👌👍👌👌👍👌👍👌 👍👌👌👌
I have watched your videos many times. I still learn from you. I have tried two new 36v ebike controllers that are paired with s866 displays. One controller has the 6th white cable with the usual 5 hal return cables. The other doesn't. I tried soldering a white cable onto the F3 hole along side the other HAL returns. With or without the sensor both controllers have erratic speed showing on the display. It falls to 0 km/h and can jump up to 45 fluctating quickly. This of course makes power to the motor just as erratic as the speed changes. The original (two) controllers never had a problem. Any idea of what this could be? PS I checked signal on the white wire, 5V until once a rotation which falls to near 0. PAS sensor is working fine. No errors.
You mean the extra white cable came from the motor? if yes this wire is for speed signal output.. is not necessary to connect ti controller... the controller can calculate the speed from three power phase wires..
Yes there is a signal but since it is a geared motor the speed reporting is all over the place and of course falls to zero when not peddling. I saw somewhere else that if there is an external three wire cable and plug it is possible to connect the white wire there. IS that correct?@@EVCustoms
Tell me again, this white wire came from motor side and didn't exist from controller side or the opposite?
Yes geared ebike motor HAL wires including the 6th white wire speed sensor. Two different controllers one with a white wire to F3 beside the YGB HAL wires on the board, another new controller same mother board yet no white wire. Soldering in a white wire to the same trace on the board as the other one changed nothing. . I don't think it could be the UART commination mode as neither controller would work after. From what I understand the white wire sends 5v until the magnet shorts the power to ground momentarily each revolution of the wheel (wheel assembly with geared motor ).
@@EVCustoms
About 5v output with a magnet you are correct, if you have same controllers for 95% it must work... note that this F-pins they are programmable and they programmed from the factory..
Hi guys, what does the ZL pin and how can be wired?
Very useful video.
Thank you.
How would you go about connecting a 5v headlamp?
Thanks for this explanatory video. I really appreciate it.

Hello, great video ... the problem is that I have a KT controller, with 12 mosfets and hall sensors, PAS and an accelerator with a current switch and three LEDs for battery charge level. It does not have connection cables for Display. I have bought a KT LCD5 Display, with five cables (+/-, control (blue), Data1 Rx, Data2 Tx. And I cannot find any electrical diagram of how to connect the cables to the pins of the controller board. Can you tell me? Which pins of the controller board do I connect the cables to? Thank you.
Most controllers use bluetooth and a phone or tablet. No display
I have the same problem. Did you solve the problem?

I am wondering if by any chance you might have a general idea of what the letters/writing on the actual PCB's means or refers to, the ones that were not obvious anyway ??
These all came from an UN-labeled 48v-500w controller originally in an ewheels ew-19/ew-20 which blew a few of the 9 output mosfets....
the only nomenclature on the PCB itself is: F2H3719A0 and FLS1205 and FOC9_YZ_D

Like is there a fuse ? I have a question sir. Can or do you have a voltage out or some diagram ? Can I bypass led lights for battery level ? Thanks you rock man.
Thanks for this, this helped me re-map and re-wire the wires of one of those highly generic Chinese E-bike handles (with lights on/off switch, throttle handle and battery display) to the wires on the controller board. Thing is, the 6-pin connector often fits, but the wiring is completely incorrect. Yesterday evening I had it back working again !
Hey, great video. I need your help. I am trying to use the electronic brakes, it works but only for the wrong direction. I tried to change the motors phases and change the direction in the controller, but it didn't help. do you have an idea for how to change the braking direction without changing the motor direction?
Your motor is geared hub motor?
thank you this was a very helpful video🛴

Will it harm the controller to solder an xt150 connector to the battery wires? I mean will the heat from the solder harm the controller at all ??
After a few inches of cable from the controller you're good to go with soldering a connector. I've gotten my controller hot but safe to touch without an issue. Probably around 110-130f

I have 48v 1250w controller ,if I use 48v 750 watts motor with this controller , possible?
So If I'd add a Bluetooth module to the programming pins using 5v vcc gnd tx and rx, I could eliminate the need of buying a display and use my phone instead??
There are a couple of ebike Bluetooth programming apps on the android market already available.
Hello my friend... this is not so easy... ;) you must know the interface of each controller...
@@EVCustoms any 12v pins for lights?
Hi, So to get rid of speed lock, You could just deactivate the EBS?
Try connecting XS to Gnd
No. Generally if the speed wire is in the motor harness it will be marked as ABS on the circuit board. I'm not sure if you can cut it and go fast. The controller may not work without it. Some companies are serious about their speed limits.
Nice video, but is there any way how to find display connectors?
Most modern controllers use bluetooth. Your phone or tablet is your display.
Take your display apart look what wire goes to speed then posi/neg run to any open you have to connect to. On your controllers mother board the speed wire is usually a thin wire beside one of three big coloured wires for wheel motor, mine has one big yellow one thin yellow together on board thin goes to speed. Or if you have the old connecting block and installing new screen look at old screen again take it apart follow speed wire to connecting block. Then you can relate which wire goes to what on the block on harness
Excellent video. Had so much problem with the same controller and motor. What brand controller is it and does other controllers have the same wire text? Please do a kuntan kt controller. I can send you one for free from aliexpress if you do a video.

My friend i have a problem with signal it’s not working, do you know how i can check it
Very good explanation about bldc controller.Very useful video.thanks a lot.
Great video! But I really need some help if anyone knows this. Unfortunately my controller does not have the same markings as the one you showed. I got a pack controller including a throttle with key switch(2 connectors with 2+3 wires), but the controller has no TH for throttle or any markings on most cable connectors.
Could it be the connector with pink(SP+4.3v)-black(gnd)-puple(TS) for throttle signal?
Also, how is the ignition marked on the circuit board? I don't want to short the wrong cables. Please help me!😬
Edit: the unknown cables from the motor controller that also fit with the connector to the key switch on throttle(white-yellow), are the following:
1. Red(VCC1)-orange(36v+) (says electronic door lock in chinese)
2. Orange(36v+)-black(gnd)
3. Brown(DD)-black(gnd)
Then there are 3-4 more identical 2-wire connectors, but they say like high brake, low brake, charge port etc in Chinese.
I’m stuck just like you I have labels but not the same my light flashes if I spin my wheel it shows speed but no throttle. I opened the controller to inspect all looks fine but still no throttle. I must have something wrong or just not hooked up
Hello. My Controller has a Cable called DS. If its connected to ground the speed drops from 45kmh to 25. Beside this Cable is a hole on the pcb which has no cable and is called GS. Is Gs connected to ground the third gear which gives me more than 45kmh? There is also a TA hole with no cable. Maybe a fourth gear?
