Glad to see you guys made it back home safely. Really enjoyed talking to you at Bristol and thanks for the shout out. I’ll be working on the Buick for next year but if all else fails my 71 GMC is “Plan B”. Take care, Neal Rhyne.
I did the 2017 HRPT by myself in my '67 Vette SB conv from Maryland to KC to Georgia and finally to Delaware, our second home, 4300 miles. What I learned. For starters, my car was well sorted having over 113K miles. Get to each venue early to minimize traffic and pace yourself. Consider other routes. Keep your car, put on an Edelbrock Performer intake, Edelbrock 625CFM w/electric choke. Make sure your ignition is the best for performance and reliability. Replace the points with Mallory Unilite, MSD 6A box. Replace the rad with a high quality aluminum one, install a electric puller fan. Make sure the rad is sealed around the perimeter. Try to configure a way to get fresh air to the breather. It will make a difference in everything. Get a Flow Cooler water pump, 180* thermostat. Leave the rear alone, it's reliable and should add to the economy numbers. I might see you next year at Bristol. Drive on!
Wow, 4300 miles in a Vette! Agreed on getting there early and finding other routes. We learned a lot this year. Thanks for the input on everything else. Just starting the process.
Thanks for watching. We live in NW Arkansas. 770 miles if you go through the mountains (we did not) 830 miles if you take the interstate. This will be a 2 day trip if Power Tour starts at Bristol next year.
I need to move to the south. The upper Midwest sucks for owning classics. People can only drive their cars in the summer or might not drive them at all! I need some Mopar friends!
Spend your $$$$$ wisely, a set of 3:55 rear gears and a Gear vendors overdrive unit on the back of the 727 trans, HUGE difference all the way around. You will be shocked at the performance increase. Also, dual exhaust with free flowing QUIET ! mufflers (Borla Touring muffs) Do these things first, THEN think about a few other changes, OR NOT ! as that overdrive with 3:55s is a game changer. The water temp issue can be a FREE FIX ! Try this, costs you the price of a gasket! Remove your thermostat, knock the guts out of the center of it so the thermostat is just a big washer, You MUST put the big washer back in the housing or you will flow to much coolant to fast to cool it down and it will overheat, so just install the old outer thermostat case back in with no guts back in your housing with a new gasket, and fresh coolant, and temp will drop. Mine went from 195* to 165* with no other changes and never got hotter in traffic. New gasket was $2.65 Try it. I always do this to ALL my old cars because it WORKS.
Agreed on spending the $$$$ wisely. Got a budget to stick to. Thank you for the input on the rear gears and mufflers....and the thermostat. I was so close to taking it out on the Power Tour. Great trick on the thermostat! Just added the cooling flush. Taking it one step at a time.
Great videos of the Tour!!!!!👍👍
Thank you! We had a blast! Already planning for next year. We will definately have a second vehicle.

Great video
Thank you. Appreciate you watching!
I would vote for refining the Newport. It is nice seeing something different and it makes an excellent platform for touring
Thank you sir!
Awesome videos. I'm taking my 67 Newport Fastop next year. I've learned a lot from y'all! C-Body Gang!!💪
Great! Love the 67 Newports. Looking forward to next year already. This Newport should look significantly different!
Congrats. Great series of videos. Chrysler held up like a champ.
Thank you! Appreciate your watching. Already planning for next year!
Definitely keep the Mopar my friend. Just fix the old girl up for some performance parts everybody's got a muscle car yours is unique and I love it.
Yes sir. We had the only Newport there. I think I saw a 2 door Newport but it escaped me. Thanks for watching!
Just watched all your power tour videos and really enjoyed it . Where are you guys from if you were over 800 miles from Bristol ?
