Nice to see a video not bashing Grimsby. I moved to Cleethorpes over a year ago and Grimsby has its problems but where i moved from ( Northampton) also has the same issues. If only Grimsby had the government support like the midlands has...
Yeah, it seems to be a similar story across many towns in the UK unfortunately. Most places do seem to have good things going for them if you look though. Thanks for watching 🙂👍
I'm from Grimsby and the fishing industry was in decline in the 70's. No further investment was encouraged to the area for when we fell on hard times like we have now. Crime and antisocial disorder has sky rocketed along with more homeless people who struggle to get any assistance. There's harbour place and the YMCA but bed spaces are very limited. After speaking to several homeless people, they've all told me that all that's being offered is lip service nothing more. It's sickening because no one this day and age should be without a roof over their heads and basic essentials like water, heat, light and food. Unemployment has also sky rocketed too. It was bad before but since 2020, things have got far worse. There's agency work which is pretty much hit and miss and poxy part time jobs that offer just a few hours each week. There's also zero contracts too. It doesn't provide provide any stability whatsoever. It's pretty much got to the stage that it will literally be last one out, turn off the lights. It's so sad to see the rapid decline of the area because Grimsby used to be a thriving little quaint town. I absolutely loved growing up round here. People were a lot different too. People actually spoke to people, everyone was happier and I can't remember anyone ever saying they felt stressed either. How times change and sadly not for the better. Over in Cleethorpes there's the boating lake which is really nice and there's the Meridian Point which is a really nice area. Other than that, there's not a great deal to do. Cleethorpes used to be a really good place to have a night out too back in the day.
Hi Vanessa. Yes, it is very sad to see Grimsby how it is now, and after talking to those homeless people whilst we were there, they very much echoed much that you've said. A shame how things have taken a turn for the worse over the years. Thanks for the comment. All the best, James and Laura 🙂
Good vid. Local boy here also with a UA-cam channel. Glad you're trying to put a positive spin on the area
Thanks! We enjoyed the day overall. Hopefully we'll return at some point in the future, just not on a Monday 😄 Cheers for watching 👍
Should have gone down Freeman Street. There are also quite a few other pubs you could have tried. Maybe you’ll have to do another visit!
Yes, we definitely need a revisit. We'll just avoid Monday next time! 😄 Thanks for watching 🙂👍
