Brad is a MONSTER on this entire album. To me, NO other Randy/Tony fill-in guitarist has EVER filled in Ozzy’s bands as well as Brad Gillis. Fucking MONSTER PLAYING!!! The ultimate unsung hero in Oz World!

Yes! Tommy’s playing was incredible as well. I just listened to a a couple of tracks, and the WHOLE DAMN BAND just slays! The perfect storm of an album.
Yes, Tommy is great here, but Bill Ward has the swing of the original which makes this track great. Listen again to Bill's fills on the parts just before verse one and again after the solo - those last bits that just set the scene for Ozzy to come in.
Almost all of the Speak of the Devil versions are even better thn the original, except Symptom of the Universe. I still like that one's original version more.
Brad did an incredible job but it’s not note for note like the original . He played a lot of solos and dive bombs harmonics etc not in the style of Sabbath. He crossed the line doing that and this why he isn’t mentioned in the Ozzy sabbath world of great guitarists
Ive smashed this album back in the day burning speaker cones smoking 10 on the Marantz getting so loud the concrete floor was rippling seismic waves and to see Sabbath do it with tony made my life complete.
Growing up I was never a BS fan...until I heard this album. I loved Ozzy's first solo albums with Randy, but it wasn't until after his passing and I heard Brad and the guys play these songs that the light came on for me for the early Sabbath tunes. I dig them now and realize just how incredible Iommi was as a master riff writer. I even dig the Tony Martin era Sabbath. #donthateme
I’ve never heard speak of the devil before until today, may 2020! Been researching Randy’s time for a couple days now... stumbled here because of timeline.... FUCKING WOW MAN!!!!! Brad... Rudy.... DAMN
YES Cody! Welcome!! This album, Speak of the Devil, goes down in history. LEGEND. And, the recording has so much fidelity. To do it justice, play it on a hot car stereo, or on vinyl super loud. Goose bumps, bro.
@@johnaverna5256 Yes, but he means a studio album of original songs. I don't think it would've happened though, because no one in this lineup writes lyrics. Geezer Butler did 95% of the lyric writing for the Ozzy version of Sabbath, and Bob Daisley wrote just about all of the lyrics on the first two studio albums.

Man, reading the comments on the songs of this playlist, I've never seen consistently higher praise of an album than this one! Truly deserving! I found this playlist because SOTD is not on Pandora or Spotify (of course I own it but I don't feel like digging up my CD!). These are the most soulful, badass technical players in the metal world.
Loved this album when it came out. I was just entering high school. And wore it out. Still have it. Plus I bought 3 CDs one is a 1st print another is imported. 2 unopened. Ozzy was the man back in my youth and still his last album patient number 9 kicks butt - so the man still got the pipes . Ozzy will always be the madman and one of the best rock vocalist to me. From sabbath to solo. What a career span !
I'm jamming this on my old Sony920 through some vintage Cerwin Vegas paired with some Yamahas. It fucking rocks and brings back memories from years past.
ozzy had the perfect lineup there. Brad Gillis absolutely a genius guitar player. Tommy Aldridge in ozzy or Whitesnake he always did amazing drumming. and Rudy Sarzo incredible bass player 🤘🤘👍
I truly think that Sabbath was the first funk-metal band ever! Almost all their tunes had a serious funk element. The funk shuffle on this is wonderful. Think of “The Wizard”. Pure funk-metal. Before anyone ever knew!
Brad killed it but MAN, Randy would have been just insane that tour! my fav albulm that inside jacket was on my wall at 6years old. thanks mom and dad for letting me be dude. ; )' PS great sound on the stream or this ATMOS thing really works
*Gillis, Sarzo and Aldridge had to learn all 13 songs in 5 days, just to play 2 nights at the Ritz in N.Y. Sept. 26 & 27 1982. This was done to compete with Black Sabbath's Live Evil, which came out shortly after Speak of the Devil. Ozzy's vocals were recorded in the studio.*
Totally always loved this album still do to this day have so many memories of me and my buddy back then in his Impala jamming out to this and drinking sum beers,aw the good ol days
I saw Brad play on this Tour Irvine Meadows!! Sadly Randy died shortly after i bought my ticket. I believe they recorded this record at those shows. There is also a VHS! Randy 4 Ever!! Brad Was Bad!! \m/
Live Evil just doesn't have the big in your face sound that this one does. This certainly sounds better sound wise than the "Tribute" record. I think that Max Norman mixed both of them too, so I'm not sure why there's a big discrepancy. Maybe the Montreal show with Randy that they recorded just didn't sound as good.

YES
Rudy Sarzos bass on this album was killer holy shit
Cuban style. Tommy Aldridge rocked it too.
Mixed great, with great playing!
Fuckin’ A right! Rudy Sarzo on bass and Tommy Aldridge on drums. Ummmmm.... yeah. I’ll take ‘em.
Hell yeah, everybody shines on this album.
He did a good job but still geezer butler is the best
This has got to be one of the best live albums in rock/metal history. Brad’s guitar and Rudy’s bass are so awesome

My favorite Ozzy tune as well. My favorite album though is 1986 Ulitmate Sin.. I also like 4:12 in this version "Is everybody high Crowd replies YAH!"

The vocals are actually done in the studio, they layed it on top of the live vocals and for the most part did the whole actual singing in the studio.
