They’re supposed to be independent peacekeepers and mediators. Vessels of the force. Extensions of the will of the Force. They are supposed to serve the Force alone. The Prequels show that the Jedi serve the Republic at the expense of serving the will of the Force. So in a way they’re not true Jedi at all anymore. After leaving the corrupt order. Ahsoka’s evolution is written in such a way that one could make the reasonable conclusion that Ahsoka is more of a Jedi than any of them in that she is closer to what a Jedi is supposed to be than anyone who serves the order at this time.

      Very good points, and ones that I have been wondering as both a fan and a writer. If you were a character in the SW galaxy and you discovered that not only was your Chancellor a Sith Lord but that he had been manipulating the Clone Wars on both sides and then managed to set the Jedi up as patsies which then allowed said Sith to commit Galaxy-wide genocide on the Jedi by turning the entire GAR against them, and then you realize it was all part of a millennia-long plan the Sith had to get rid of the Jedi and consolidate control over the entire Republic and turn it into an Empire, which they only would have been able to do by infiltrating every corner of the Republic’s infrastructure, slowly manipulating everything as the centuries would go by.
      Basically, everything you were brought up to believe in about the Galactic Republic was nothing but pure BS no thanks to the Sith. What would you as a Star Wars character do? What would your thought process be once you have those realizations?

    What made this emotional to me was on second 47 or 48 when they cut to that shot of Ashoka and Rex staring at each other. Ashoka’s eyes widened and Rex’s head bows slightly and his shoulders relax. That body language speaks a thousand words with no words spoken. To think, their commander, their brother must betray them to do what’s right. Ashoka felt his pain with the force and she took his helmet off as to say, you’re not just a soldier, you’re a man with feelings and that is ok. A Jedi would not do what Ashoka did at that moment and a soldier that only cares about his duty would not shed a tear. They are more than that.

    This really is such a heartbreaking scene. For 7 seasons, we have seen that Rex was a proud trooper of the GAR. He was a leader who loved and deeply cared for his men. He was a man who would go to any lengths for his men. Who would never ask his brothers to do anything he wouldn't do himself. He was willing to disobey a direct order from a Jedi general to save Fives and Jesse from execution. He was willing to infiltrate a heavily defended Separatist facility to rescue Echo based on the mere implication that Echo was still alive. He was willing to board a Separatist shuttle midflight to rescue Tup. Hell, he led a mutiny against General Krell in order to avenge Waxer and the men of the 501st and 212th who died because of Krell's manipulations.
    Time and time again, we saw that Rex always put his men first, always fought alongside them, knew all their names, always shared their burdens. We saw that he would gladly die a thousand times for his comrades. More than almost anything, he loved the GAR and everything it stood for. The only thing that he perhaps loved as much was his friendship with Anakin and Ashoka. Both of whom shared the same burdens he did.
    But now, as the Republic that he had fought and sacrificed so hard for came crashing down, he now had to see that everything he loved was a lie. The men that he had led into battle, that he had gone so far for were now his enemies. The men who he had been willing to die for were now willing to kill him, and the only way he could see for him and Ashoka to come out alive was to kill them. Everything that Rex believed in, loyalty, duty, honor, all of it was a lie. The clones believed themselves to be better than droids, but now he saw that just like droids, they were programmed, programmed to fulfill an objective, even at the cost of their own lives. Like the cruiser they're in, Rex's whole world is crashing down.

    You NEVER hear Rex talking like this EVER in the entire series. He has always been a bastion of loyalty, dependability, and concern. You never hear him sweating like this. Yes, there were some hairy moments, but none like THIS moment. To hear Rex talking this way is heartbreaking! There's no other way to put it. And what a touch of art when Ahsoka takes his helmet off and you see the tears... he wouldn't even LOOK at Ahsoka... gawd... It's so easy to forget that under all of that stoic, scarred armor is a terrified man fighting for his life... afraid of his own brothers at arms... his own family! The Great Jedi Purge is just an all-around tragedy. NO ONE was safe from stress, conflict, or consequence... not even Darth Sidious and he was the victor!

    • @Inblader
      @Inblader 2 роки тому +8

      Clearly the chip once removed changed his perception of his own existence, just like it did with Fives. Though Fives wouldn't even be the best example, since he was always self aware and it meant a great deal for him to have the free will that droids didn't. Tup and Fives' final lines talking about a nightmare finally ending makes me think once Order 66 happens, they just snap, their consciousness fall asleep and they probably spectate their actions powerless as if they were having a terrible nightmare.
      The Carnage of Krell was also a strong episode for the clones and Rex, the moment they killed eachother thinking it was an enemy deception was heartbreaking, that's when we found out Rex's loyalty was truly towards his brothers. Rex's arc throughout the show was the best one, it led to this moment and to this particular scene. These episodes weren't a punch to the guts it was a stab to the heart..

On the outside, he’s just a badass clone. On the inside, he has extreme loyalty to not only the Republic, but to his brothers even though they turn against him. He’s right. Those clones ARE willing to die, and he feels so much emotion because of his tremendous loss experience that he cannot hold in the stress that he was designed to withstand. He cries. In this case, the reality that everything that Rex had fought and bleed so hard for had ultimately been all for nothing, as he could now see the writing on the wall, now that the propaganda has been stripped away. At that point, he knew that there was nothing left for him. The world that he knew was now long gone, while the new world that would take its place was just starting to sprout.

      Yes, so right. If you have only seen the Clone Wars a couple times (can't imagine that) then you need to watch the 3 episode run with General Krell. Rex, Jesse, Fives & Tup realize that their survival depends on defying or dismissing loyalty in these deadly situations. Due to Krell purposefully exposing the clones to needless attack because the general is secretly working with Sidious. Krell's true mission is to kill as many soldiers as possible. This is a great representation of where loyalty can & should be questioned & where survival becomes the only option. One of the many reasons why our Captain Rex, is so deeply loved.

    These scenes and these characters are exactly why the Clone Wars is such an icon. Instead of relying on age old storytelling tricks designed for cheap and easy viewing (cough cough Rebels), this feels like a love story from the creators to the characters. It's not the ending they deserved, but it's played out so beautifully. The animation almost looks hand painted, the emotions are tangible and strike deep chords, and it never feels like we are watching TV. Their struggles feel real and so, so painful. It's one of the best examples of fiction, I think, to have ever been created, the Clone Wars and this final season. They deserved so much better in their lives, but it's been a privilege and an honor watching them grow.

    When I watched the Star Wars movies as a kid, I felt indifferent towards clones. But watching Clone Wars as an adult, it pained me to see them get killed in hordes in countless battles. They were essentially child soldiers. No parents, no relatives, simply bred for war. They go on to fight and die on distant planets or in space fighting to pointless war and nobody cared when they died. It was inhumane.

    • @TimberlakeTigerGirl

      Technically speaking they aren't child soldiers because through growth acceleration they are adult men. Chronologically they are no older than 13, but biologically speaking they are men in their 20's to 30's at most.
