Oh my gosh, you just saved my life ... I replaced the hood release switch in the car and to do that I disconnected the cable under the hood where one cable attaches to 2 cables (to give me cable room under the dash). It started to rain real hard, so I slowly dropped the hood, ensuring not to latch it. 2 hours later, the rain stops, and I go to hook the cable to the 2 cables under the hood. The rain and wind must have closed the hood. Oh how happy I was about that ... but, using this video, I'm going to go back out and unlatch it, and fix the cable before the rain starts again ... joy!
And, then my wonderful Astro65sl flashlight, that works so well, decides to run out of battery when my breaker bar is 1/2" from the latch ... what a day. And, my cardboard is on gravel, and big red ants are biting me ... geeze, and I have diarrhea too ... from a delicious burrito I made while it was raining ...
Hey man this video help me tremendous.. it took a headache of a problem (that I was stumped on what to do) an completely turned it into a 2 min job with a worry.. thanks! These videos are more than appreciated.. I was the same MB as you so this was very beneficial. Looking forward to watching more of your vids..
After taking a quick look at it yesterday I was all set nd read to go at it from the passenger side wheel-well. Figured id b at it a couple hours. Nope. Not if this works on the model i'm working on. Gratitude my friend, kick ass video.
I wish I would’ve found your video before I spent the past few hours trying to do my divers side one. Thanks, now I know what I’m trying find and pull on👍🏻
See i knew this but i didnt know there was two and not one in the middle 😂 after not finding it, i realised there was two *ding* noises from either side 😂 then i came here to find out if there was an easy way to get to them 😂 so thank you 😊❤
Ok twatburger, I clearly state that a screwdriver isn't necessary, and if you can't lay down on the ground and reach up then you have no business working on your vehicle. Take it to someone who has the specialized talent of moving their arm.
So... I did exactly this and the latch mechanism still wouldn't release.... I have soaked it with liquid wrench, pounded the hood while the release is open, and still can't get that mechanism to release.... any pointers before I have to take it to a body shop?
Buddy if you don't have a screwdriver and a spare tire jack you need to take a trip to the dealership because you shouldn't be working on your car. I'll edit this to add that you can in fact reach it with your hand.
@@redlineauto8519 - I’ve got it booked in next week at mechanic - also I’ve bought a cable on eBay / problem is the release clip - just came away in my hand / cable still attached - bonnet not opening and clip dangling
@@chriswalken6129Ahh... the lever that comes through the grille? If it came out with the cable attached, yank on it really really hard. There's no magic to the hood release system, it can be opened from outside the car even if the cable is completely missing. Just takes some elbow grease and luck.
The latch is actually electronically controlled and when your fuse #8 is blown you can not open the hood using the red lever under the dash. Leave it t Mercedes to over engineer opening your hood. Anyways this is a simple work around. Thanks
Possibly correct on some newer models, but at least through the W211 it is a mechanical connection. There's literally a cable that runs from the lever in the cabin to both latches.
Lifts are actually pretty cheap, and if you can't use a block of wood under the tire and a spare tire jack to lift one wheel than you should probably take your car to someone who knows what they're doing.
Hello, Alex. Your uncle here. My father is a mechanic and he approves of your videos
