After removing the rust, rinse thoroughly with clean water and baking soda. This neutralizes the vinegar acid that actually cleaned the tool. Now dry the tool and then lubricate. No WD40
Thanks for the straight vinegar tip! Am heading out to the garage to get a few of my rusty tools "reconditioned". One recommendation for you! Use 3-in-1 OIL to lubricate your tools. WD-40 is a water dispersal agent and it will evaporate fairly quickly, plus the aerosol is not a good thing to breathe in. A small bottle of 3-in-1 will last you a LONG time too....a thin coat will inhibit rust AND lubricate your tools much better than WD-40! Cheers!
If you need to lubricate really fine joints and gears, I recommend Singer Sewing Machine Oil. It disperses/spreads quickly so just a drop will fix a squeaky hinge or flow the length of a spring. Also Magic Eraser works great for removing rust and grime prior and post vinegar soaking.
I use WD 40 and steel wool. I have a lawn business in Florida and when I forget that I didn't put all my tools back in the truck and it's pouring rain they get rusty a lot. They sell a cleaning vinegar by the half gallon so that way you don't piss of the wife when you use her vinegar that she cooks with. Still think steel wool is better to use on your tools the sandpaper and wired brushes they scrap up your blades. You can buy a bag of steel wool with 3 grades course, medium and fine for 6.00 a bag last forever and way cheaper than sandpaper or wire brushes.
OMG! I was so skeptical of the vinegar but was blown away with the results! Great job! 👍👍 I'll definitely incorporate that in my tool maintenance. Thanks!! 😁
For smaller items (hammer, wrench, pliers, screwdrivers, etc) I soak in 50% water to 50% Vinegar for 24 hrs then scrub with steel wool. Dry and seal with 3 in 1 oil
Have you ever tried using a Rust eraser. I have used one to remove rust from my knives. And the rust eraser works very fast. I ordered mine from Amazon.
I have a rusty shovel, and a gallon of 6% white vinegar, which works better than 3%. I’ll try the paper towel trick, instead of soaking for 24 hours, which I already know would work but would take more vinegar to do the trick. Thanks. 🙏
I just watched another video about cleaning garden tools with vinegar, it didnt however show the awesome paper towel trick. I thought i was gonna have to let them all sit in the vinegar for 24-36 hours. Im definitely gonna try the paper towels. Thanks so much 🙂
WD40 evaporates and is not good at all long term. Mineral spirits can cause skin irritation. Being garden tools, I use vegetable and warm the tools in the oven at about 300-350 degrees for better metal penetration, then wipe excess..
He, great video, great info! Question about the white vinegar, what acidity of vinegar did you use? Is it is it 100% acidity? Or the cleaning vinegar at 6% acidity? I did see a 75% acidity on Amazon what would you recommend? Thanks 😊
Might want to neutralise the acidity of the vinegar by rinsing them off and soaking in a little water and baking soda. Then rinse off , let Dry and oil as you said..

So glad things are turning green!
Nice job. Just goes to show that many of these Store bought products are just not up to the job, but normal everyday Vinegar blasts away.

Amazing. I love when I can use one product for multiple tasks around the house!
Me too!

Good luck!! Typically this can work on stuff that’s not too extreme but it always surprised me how powerful it is :)
It would be a more effective presentation if you did a side by side before and after shot for each tool you cleaned.
Thanks so much for the great tip.

How did they turn out? 😃
@@ExpeditionHomestead They turned out great! So glad I saw your video 😊
Wow that’s amazing! Thank you for sharing this ♥️
I used a lesser percentage vinegar with salt and was able to get rust off a 100 year old steel handle. Vinegar is amazing!!
amazing advise, great step by step guide
Thank you very much 😊
Thanks for sharing the video.

Great presentation. Nice job.
Does the vinegar have to be neutralized after cleaning and before putting on the oil? Will try it today. Thanks.
Yes you want to neutralize it after
Gloriously fun couple! I enjoyed watching you so much I almost forgot to de-rust my shears.

So... 1. soak in distilled white vinegar two hrs. 2. scrub with brillo pad
Thank you 👍😉🍀
Can I use almond oil or veg oil to coat the tool after removing the rust.
oh dammit .. I thought this was about garlic rust xD
😃😃😃the girl scared from getting dirty hands but cute
Doesn't work
I cringed every time that you wiped a blade. I thought you were going to cut yourself!
Corona says SPECIFICALLY NOT TO USE STEEL WOOL!! 👎
They have a specific coating over their blades. Some may vary just like anything else.
The two of you are cute together...but...shame on you for allowing your tools to get rusted in the first place.
This isn’t a scapegoat or anything buttt my son left them out :p hahaha thanks for watching 😊
There are still a few perfect people out there - so why do they need to watch your video?😀
