    Vet student here: what is causing that dry paw pads is precisely the application of ointments, since they overlick their paw pads to remove it all, it's something uncomfortable and foreign for them. Their paws are perfectly alright without your help, they can take care of it, they have for thousands of years, and so do big cats in nature.

      Sometimes it happens by itself which is why moisturizers for pet paws exist. You shouldn’t use them though unless your pet needs them! My dog personally needs them because the ice melt is cracking her paws (I can’t do anything about the ice melt) and during summer the hot pavement can cause it too (been wanting to get her boots to help)

    If your cats paws are dry applying stuff to the bottom will make things stick to the bottom of their feet like litter. They will then eat litter or stuff on floor that gets on feet. Make sure your cat has a clean water bowl that has fresh pure water. If your cats feet are dry make sure you clean your floors with natural products and rinse well. Any chemicals and anti bacterial products If used on floor or counter tops without rinsing can cause irritation and dryness on their feet. Also feed your cats a natural high moisture diet not a bunch of dry food that is dehydrating and often high carbohydrate which is unnatural for cats. Do not use fragranced litter which is toxic. Keep your cats litter box clean everyday. If you choose to moisturize your cats paws do not use lotion or unnatural things. Make sure it's edible and remove any residue after applying. Don't do it more than a few times a week. 1st adress the cause. An indoor cat should not have dry paws. Fresh water, high moisture high quality cat appropiate natural food, fragrance free litter and non toxic cleaners used on any surface your cats walk. This first.Then and only then consider a product like this. Make sure your cat is not sensitive to the ingredients. Make sure to wipe off residue so that litter and anything on floor will not stick

      I 100% agree, very good advice. Also, if all of the above (food, water, litterbox) are taken care of, TALK TO YOUR VET. He/She can check if your cat doesn't have any health issues that cause dry paws. Stay healthy guys and take care of your furry babies :)

      But I think moisturizer would only make dry paws worse. Cats are pretty sensitive so they will likely lick it off and they'll be even dryer after that, kinda like when you lick your lips. The best solution would be making them stay in a more humid environment, this will fix any dryness problem is a matter of a couple days

    • @starspangledwinner
      @starspangledwinner Рік тому

      @@GacktsBigTiddies cats evolved in the desert. They need a high water content diet such as wet food and always have fresh water. Dry food is unnatural and should only be used as a treat occasionally. It would be like a human eating cereal all the time. Like humans cats need food that is fresh with the proper vitamins. A high quality wet food is much healthier than dry food. As I stated in another paragraph one also should avoid fragranced litter and stick to natural cleaning products that are well rinsed on any surface ones cat walks. However,you are right cats will lick it off which is not a good idea

    • @GacktsBigTiddies
      @GacktsBigTiddies Рік тому

      @@starspangledwinner yes, cat's have originated in the desert, however they have adapted to the climate of the countries you can find them in, there are even cats that live in the snow. And for the food, it might depend on the brand, but generally dry food contains way more nutrients overall, wet food mostly just contains protein, is a filler and generally tastes better , but it shouldn't be given to a cat more than about 3-5 times a week, I know it from experience. Everytime I wasn't home and my family fed my cats, they gave them more than one pack of wet food every day cause they like it better, but it wasn't good for them, they kept throwing up. Anyway, I agree that there should be variety in their food, cause only dry pellets can't be that good for cats. It's also great to make them a home made meal as a treat from time to time, still for the nutrients. And I don't know about the litter one, instead of using litter I just let my cats go out when they want/need to, I'm generally against keeping completely healthy cats locked in a house, I understand if the kitty is impaired and needs special care, but otherwise I doubt it can be good

      Tbh I don’t get why people let their cats outside…most outdoor cats live 2-5 years while indoor cats live 10-15 (I got this info from Google so it may or may not be right). Plus native bird populations and other critter populations are dwindling because of cats. Unless the cat you’re looking after is a stray, I don’t get the point of not keeping your cat indoors where it’s nice and safe.
      My father had cats and every single one suffered because they were let outside: two of them got hit by a car, one got killed by stray dogs, one got captured by some stupid kid and got thrown off the top floor of an apartment complex, and another escaped/disappeared.

    Lmao. I've never ever had to "moisturize" any of my cats paws. And they have always been just fine. Lol. People will try and sell anything nowadays 🙄

      I check my cat's paws from time to time to make sure there are no wounds and incase there is something stuck that causes irritation but I would not put anything on them unless the vet recommends it.
